Barry - HBO (1 Viewer)

Just started binging this week. When the karate girl climbs the tree and jumps onto the roof of the house while Stephen Root watches on is the hardest I’ve laughed in a long time.

Still my favorite episode. Just completely bonkers and out of nowhere.

I loved it when Henry Winkler jumped into that random yard, trying to be stealthy and the 1,000,000 watt floodlights came on...followed by the attacking dogs...and the ladies never noticed.

:lmao:  :lmao:  :lmao:

I just binged season one, half way though season two.  The girl KILLS the show for me.  Much like the wife on Breaking Bad ruined that.

Hank is the MVP of this show.  The Karate Girls :hawkshriek: was pretty good fwiw.
If an actor`s character is unlikable ,and is supposed to be unlikable or hated ,than they did their job 100 % . Wendy in Ozark is a classic example of making someone so unlikable they you wish they get killed off ,then that makes her a great actor .

That doesn't mean I have to like or enjoy it.  I'm not an acting class teacher, I could gaf abput all that.

just like in real life we have people we cant stand in our families or co workers . I think adding characters like that make things more believable ,and gives us someone to root AGAINST

This show needs more chatter.  Great, great stuff, and Season 3 ended tonight in spectacular fashion. Bring on the next!

Who was the guy who attacked Barry and Sally in Barry's apartment? Was he another relative of someone Barry had killed or just a rando?

I believe that was the one guy who survived from the motorcycle gang that tried to kill Barry two eps ago (the handoff guy on the highway).

if im being honest this took a litle more dark less comedy for me overall.

Still enjoyed it but some stuff was i didn't get into like his whole dream sequence

My lady and I love this show so much.  Waiting to watch next weekend so we can binge it all and not have to wait. It's been kind of concerning hearing no buzz about this latest season.

I thought it took a bit to get going, but was pretty awesome by the end. One of the most unique shows out there.

Agreed. That finale was def not funny, more crazy. A bit confusing since it's pitched like a comedy I thought but they should embrace the darkness.

Kill off Barry's girlfriend as well.

Just finished.  Is there going to be another season?  This felt like a series finale.

My daughter said there's another season, to be directed entirely by Bill Hader. (He directed the finale.)

Yep, Hader said they start shooting the next season in two months.

I like that the show is tilting more towards drama, as the storytelling has been great. Still plenty of comedy (except for that last episode), but it feels now like it is a drama more than anything. Labels aside, big fan here.

I really enjoyed the last episode. But there were a couple in the middle that just didn't do anything for me.....

I thought the middle of S3 lagged a little too on the first watch, but I ran through it a second time and didn't think that at all.  Some of the Sally TV show stuff got a bit tedious, but that was important to build her up so that her fall once her show got canceled would be that much worse, although you had to love her beating that biker to death with the baseball bat as it was like all of her rage at her abusive ex-husband was unleashed in every swing.  In a fictional story, you can't help but cheer her on in that moment.

I didn't catch it the first time, but the guy throwing the grenade (at 3:47 below) right before dying is hilarious. And if you watch, as soon as the starting starts, ***hes throws himself on top of John to protect him.

Fun season, fun finale. Really loved this show. I’ll miss it even though I’ll probably re-watch it soon. Easy show to sit through.
I thought Season 4 was bad and then got much worse. I may not even watch the last two episodes (last ones were horrible #5&6).
It's a huge disappointment as I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons.

Season 4 lost it's way a bit, but the last two episodes are very good.

Thanks, I'll give the last 2 a try.

I started skipping forward to the Hank scenes because those seemed mostly tonally consistent with prior seasons. But yeah, in my opinion, this is up there with the worst final seasons I’ve seen from shows I otherwise generally enjoyed.

It all ties together in the last two episodes though. They hit a HR with the ending - but I agree Season 4 was a lot of "miss".

The last couple of scenes had some emotional weight but I’d strongly disagree they hit a HR with anything this season.

I think Barry got everything he really wanted (as far as his legacy in his son's eyes) and it showed that his bond/love with ***hs never really went away no matter how ****ed up their relationship became. As soon as the gunfight started, ***hs' only concern was protecting Barry's son.

I thought the finale was good and really drove home some of the themes, which I'd like to discuss but I feel this would end up in a "political" discussion.

I'm still confused about some of the Lynchian aspects to this season, and whether we were watching reality or just Barry's (or someone else's?) version of it.

It was definitely meant to be a send-up of gun culture and how easy it is to buy them.

I don’t think it was intended to be Lynchian or some kind of dream aspect but there were parts I wondered about, mainly Barry looking substantially different when he was captured by Janice’s dad (can’t think of his name).

The finale was sort of hit and miss for me. I didn’t feel like Barry got any sort of redemption at all. Indeed, up until the last scene, he was trying to escape responsibility for all of it.

As for themes, the biggest one for me is the lies we tell ourselves to allow us to excuse our misdeeds and live with ourselves. That was certainly emphasized in the finale.

Thoughts on the intruder scene at the desert home? With the whole house seeming to turn and a whole opening up in the wall? What about the cop with the bleeding eye that Sally talked to in the finale? Was that the guy she stabbed?

Yes - I mean he was actually listening to podcasts that made excuses for murderers. A very niche market, it would seem.

Barry posthumously got redemption via the movie making him out to be a hero, but he didn't really deserve that or any redemption, like you said.

Ok yea that was a dream scenario for sure. I took it she was having a mental break. I don’t think the intruder was ever there.

The cop wasn’t the same guy she stabbed but it was in the eye which is why she was seeing the eye bleed. Sally defintiely was having a mental break due to her guilt of that. I think she let it go in Sunday’s episode when she told her son she killed a man.

Yeah, there was no intruder. Sally hallucinated the entire thing.

Moral of the story was seemingly in what ***hes said to Hank: own who you are. Barry always tried to act like he was a better man than he was. Gene went to prison because he couldn’t accept who he was (hence, his actions).
