"His time will come. He'll get his... He'll come across the middle one day, and someone will hit him or take out his knee. The guy will be fined and [Ward] will be gone. No one will even care. No one will send him any cards saying they're sorry. Not to that guy... You reap what you sow."

I'm so tired of hearing big macho defensive players crying like little schoolgirls when little Hinesy hits them too hard. Especially when these guys live for knocking people out, whether or not that player knows they're coming. What a bunch of ##$$ies.

That's one take I guess. The other is that he's been a cheap shot ##### for a decade and his peers vote him one of the dirtiest players in the NFL year after year for a reason.

That's a bunch of b.s. Ward is as clean as they come. It's just that those guys dish it out but can't take it. It's pathetic.

Not to mention that everyone outside of Pitt. is sick off smack talk. He plays on a team that likes to line up and play hard without talking, they let their play on the field do the talking for them. Ward and Washington on the other hand like to CONSTANTLY run their mouths. I just don't get it, Ward is nothing more than a possession receiver who has won one Superbowl. His stats won't get him in the HOF, yet he acts like he is the best player to ever take the field.

He doesn't act like he's the best player ever, whatsoever. He plays hard, like the game is supposed to be played. If WR's are not supposed to block people, or are supposed to block like 145 lb weaklings, please show me the rule. And he has fun doing it.I guess he hasn't reaped what he "sowed" for more than a decade now. All the crybabies can keep crying until he retires.

See if you can get a vote in next year's survey... Hines could use your help.
Who else are defensive players going to vote for except the only guy who hits them? But this is all typical from a Ray Lewis led team.
You're absolutely right, Ray Lewis and the Baltimore defense is known for nothing but being a bunch of cry babies :2cents: Can you sense the sarcasm?

O.K. maybe he doesn't "act" like he's the best player, but he absolutely talks trash like he's the best player on the field. That has been documented by many players who have played against him.

Ward is the perfect example of an athlete who's loved if he's on your team and despised if he's not. Steeler homers think he's hard-nosed and clean while many non-Steeler fans think he's dirty. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle but anyone who wouldn't want him on their team is fibbing to themself.

I've watched football for about 35 years. The single biggest episode of crybaby syndrome I have EVER witnessed was the CRYING done by Baltimore after losing to the Patriots last year. One Raven actually took exception to the fact that an African American referee referred to him as "boy". Using emotion as motivation is a flawed strategy. This is the biggest reason why Baltimore hasn't enjoyed more success over the last 8 years, and why they will lose to Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Yeah, you've got to be freaking kidding me with a statement like that. Actually with TWO statements like that (the comment about Ward and that the Ravens don't talk smack).

Obviously you've missed the mic-ed up sessions from a couple years ago when the Ravens sucked and Ray Ray :hey: all season long because he was getting blocked and you just can't do that to the great Ray Lewis.

I don't remember offensive players whining when Warren Sapp just about broke Chad Clifton in half with a similar block on an interception five years ago or so.

They sound ridiculous.

:2cents: Was that a recent quote of Scott's? It reminds me the stuff he was saying last year, and the Ravens have been pretty tight-lipped on the trash talking this week.

Not sure of the timing... it was in this morning's Washington Post in a Wilbon column - so it could be old.

The Ravens have been threatening to take Ward out for years but Ward is the one that has been dishing out the punishment. If this is some kind of ploy of the Ravens defense to get into Ward's head it clearly isn't working. The funny thing is that it really shows that Ward is in the head of some of the Ravens defenders.

Some Steeler fans would get an erotic rush when Joey Porter made these kind of statements about opposing players.

Exactly. He probably is a bit dirty with how he hits. He's not afraid to hit a guy who's not directly involved in making a tackle just because he can, and while the defensive players might consider it dirty, it's legal and it serves a purpose.People talk all the time about receivers having to keep their heads on a swivel when they come across the middle because they might get lit up by a linebacker. Well, when teams play the Steelers, those same linebackers have to think about the fact that they might get laid out by a Hines Ward block on a running play, and anything that gets them thinking about ANYTHING but tackling the ballcarrier is a good thing. He hasn't played on many air-it-out teams, but if he had, he's got the talent to have far better numbers. His value is that he plays hard every play, every game, and he has fun doing it. He's a complete receiver - he catches everything, runs good routes, blocks well, is a team leader, is loved by the fans, doesn't get into trouble, and fits perfectly with everything the Steelers have asked him to do. Sure, he talks, but he's hardly cocky or arrogant. He's played most if not all of his career with a chip on his shoulder about getting respect, and it's served him well even if it's rubbed people the wrong way at times (includiing myself). Whining about respect gets old, but if it helps him produce the way he has, keep doing it.If Bart Scott doesn't like it, so what? Bart will still be keeping an eye on him every time there's a running play, and that's all that really matters. Hines won't be losing any sleep over what Bart Scott thinks of him.

That was widely decried as a dirty hit at the time.
No. Not really. Clifton himself called it a clean hit.Mike Sherman thought it was dirty initially, but after watching the play afterwards, it was almost universally recognized as clean (just like Ward's was) and everyone moved on.

Porter definitely has a big mouth but I don't remember him talking about taking out a player or putting a bounty on someone. Maybe he did but I don't remember it -- Porter is usually whining about not getting respect and other such nonsense.

Legal hit and clean hit are not the same thing. That was pure chicken ####. Sapp wasn't playing football - they were nowhere near the play - he was trying to injure a fellow player.

Tomato/Tomahto
"I'm not bitter toward Warren Sapp," Clifton said Wednesday on radio station WCMT in his hometown of Martin, Tenn. "I hold no grudges at all. It's part of the game, and you assume the risks when you play."I got blindsided in a perfectly legal play. The way I landed on my hip torqued my whole body and ripped some muscle and ligaments." --Chad Clifton.
The only difference, like you point out, is that Ward and Rivers were directly involved in the play. So again, I don't get what everyone on the defensive side is whining about. I'm just saying if nobody on the defensive side spoke out about Sapp's hit (which I agree with you was bush league even if legal), I don't know how they have the stones to say something about Ward.

It's called football, and Ward is a classic "football player", and he will be in the HOF while Bart Scott cries.

I hope Ward gets obliterated this weekend and Bart Scott is the one to do it. Add a little hot sauce Bart. WIPE him out. Bye bye Ward. See ya.

I guess since you've watched football on TV for 35 years you know better ways to motivate a team rather than using emotion? The strategy seems to work going to the playoffs 5 out of those 8 years and winning a Superbowl. In fact averaging 10 wins per year for the past 9 gives them the 5th best record in the NFL since 2000.NE- 119 winsColts- 109 winsSteelers- 102 winsEagles- 99 winsRavens- 89 winsSo your statement questioning their motivational techniques is absurd!

Right!
Heap was on one leg and Porter knocked him down, the "cheapshot" didn't cause the injury and was hardly a "cheapshot"

Bart Scott, who hasn't done anything worth a crap this year, needs to run his mouth to get his name on the news. His on-field play sure hasn't done that for him.

As far as Hines being dirty....taking off the Homer glasses, He did lower his helmet on that play where he KO'd Ed Reed. So, you do have a gripe there. Other than that play, EVERY other time I've seen him lay someone out (Bart Scott and lots of other defensive players included :goodposting: ) it has been clean.

So, keep flapping yer gums, Bart. Ward has been hearing talk of bounties and revenge for a long time now.....and so far nobody has done #### about it. DBs and LBs jsut keep getting their bells rung.

Right!
Heap lined up to play. If you're too injured to play, don't line up. If you line up, don't complain if someome touches you. Several other Steelers D players engaged their blockers on that play. And it wasn't that long ago that the Steelers lost a game on a fake spike (TD to Carl Pickens vs Cincy in the late 90s).

Either you take the injury timeout and get off the field, or you play football. None of this proposed "I'm gonna line up but please be gentle" crap.

I'm sorry my friend but there is NO WAY Ward gets into the HOF. 10 seasons playing with just 5 1,000 yard seasons and 3 seasons with more than 10 td's does NOT get you into the HOF. 974 yards per season and 7 td's is a good career and will get you into the Steelaers HOF but no the NFL HOF.

Would you consider Derek Mason a HOFer?He and Ward have almost the same averages over a long career and I personally I wouldn't put either in. They have average #'s over a long career. They are both average to above average players who have been able to stay healthy. IMO the HOF is reserved for THE BEST.

If it happened, the last person you'd hear making those Ravenesque little girl crying noises about it would be Ward.Love him or hate him, he's a hell of a football player. Brings the intensity and passion every player should play with.

Numbers don't mean as much as you think. Reputation gets you in as well. Is Mason know for anything other than being a clutch receiver? I love the Steelers, but I was not asking for Lynn Swann to be inducted into the HOF. He got that by being a monster in the post season, not during the regular season. Hines is known for being a great blocker at his position and putting up solid numbers. Ward was a Super Bowl MVP. Sure he and Mason have similar numbers, but outside of Baltimore, Nashville, and the fantasy world who knows who Derek Mason is? I'd want someone I always have to account for on the field recognized before a one dimensional guy who hasn't won a Super Bowl or Super Bowl MVP.

Ward will be there, I have no doubts about it, football is about more than just plain numbers. 86 still has years left to play, so his numbers can only get better. Hines is a special player, makes big plays when needed and is tough as nails. He's a SB MVPSteelers all-time leader in almost every receiving category Best blocking WR ever and a complete football player, nobody in the league has more heart. Mason a HOFer ? No way.

I think that's exactly right and, as a Ravens fan, it drives me nuts. It's not like Ward hides on the field. If you want to nail him, do it in the natural flow of the game - like you do to everyone else.I think Ward walks the line between aggressive and, um.....overagressive. Sort of like some of the Ravens defenders, in fact. Huh....Maybe we can trade for Hines & have him play CB next year

I'd take 53 of him on my team any day of the week, as opposed to an alligator-armed chicken like TO.
