Miceli, 33, will make $600,000 this season, up from $350,000 last year.

The guy pitched against the phils in the world series 10 years ago!Your phils update includes: speculation on what it could cost to trade for schilling (dbacks overstocked with infielders would not need Utley, we ain't given up floyd or hammels!). Kevin Millwood says the right things in his mlb.com article (he wouldn't mind finishing business in philly - happy that wagner is there, etc). Millwood most liekly won't return. Paul Quantrill wants to be reunited with close friend Dan Pleasac (thing is Quantrill opted out of like 3 mil to play for the dodgers - had a 1.75 ERA last year). He may be costly but would come cheaper then latroy hawkins.I'll keep you guys posted.Good to have some other guys to talk to about this.
As a long-suffering Oriole Fan I have been burning up web pages trying to figure out who they will land now that they have said they plan to spend $30M or so. So far, I have been reading the following...- Vlad is their #1 target, but they have commented that they are not going to spend $15m a year for any player, so I think they will end up getting outbid by someone. Also, I think that the Orioles are a little scared about his back because they were burned so badly by Albert Belle. - They like Tejada. They like Kaz Matsui. Also listed Rich Aureila as a possible target. I think that if they lose out on Vlad they will push hard to sign Tejada.- No interest in a 35 year-old Mike Piazza even though they have talked with the Mets. Piazza's two remaining years are for 15m a piece.- They have been outbid by the Diamondbacks for Richie Sexson and consider themselves out of the running. No mention of whether or not they are interested in Geoff Jenkins.- They are confident with their young arms and don't expect to chase one of the high priced arms. Instead they will look to and a second-tier pitcher. - They are looking to add a catcher with defensive prowess being the priority. They have had a long-standing interest in Pudge, whom I gotta believe will resign with the Marlins. I have read that Greg Maddux is leaning towards signing with San Diego. It seems an odd place as far as winning potential goes, but apparently he lives in So. Cal during the offseason (he recently built a huge house ther), and likes the area as well as the proximity to his hometown of Las Vegas.Another rumor is that he may return to Chicago. Dusty Baker is apparently pushing hard for this signing. He wants his two young studs Wood and Prior to be around someone like Maddux.

Ordonez is due to make $14 million in the final year of his contract, so the White Sox would free up a lot of salary by moving him. They'd prefer to move Paul Konerko or Carlos Lee, but they'd have to pay someone to take Konerko's contract and Lee would have little trade value at the $7 million or more he's due in arbitration. Phil Rogers speculates that the Angels might be willing to give up either Troy Percival or Darin Erstad for Ordonez. Misc. Orioles News of the day...PHOENIX - The Orioles have money to spend. The Florida Marlins have payroll to trim. That could turn the two teams into trade partners again this offseason, and yesterday major league sources said the Orioles were targeting Marlins first baseman Derrek Lee. Late last night, in fact, one major league source gave indications that the Orioles had made an offer for Lee and were waiting to hear back from the Marlins before leaving the general manager meetings today. Orioles officials have played down their interest in free-agent shortstop Miguel Tejada, saying they would be content moving second baseman Brian Roberts over to shortstop, but one high-ranking team source yesterday said Tejada is still high on their list. They also have interest in Kaz Matsui, the switch-hitting shortstop from Japan. Cheers.

Atlanta may go after Millwood, but I thought I read that one of the reasons they chose to resign Maddux over him was his penchant for lousy second half performances.I am not sure of the numbers but it seems that Millwood was pretty strong before the All Star Break and pretty poor after.

Martin and Alvarez have more in common than being left-handed. They both were salvaged off the scrap heap after enduring years of physical problems.
Martin was out of work when Spring Training opened this year. He underwent a shoulder reconstruction in May 2002 -- his sixth operation in 10 years -- after appearing in only two games for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Dodgers gave him a tryout at the urging of his former Cleveland Indians teammate, Paul Shuey.
He beat out fellow non-roster invitees Alvarez, Pedro Borbon and Yorkis Perez to make the Opening Day roster and went on to post one of the best seasons by a left-handed reliever in baseball.
He was 1-2 with a 3.53 ERA in 80 games, setting a Dodger franchise record for appearances by a left-hander. He led all of baseball by allowing just five of 42 inherited base runners to score. He also had the lowest mark for opposing first batters (7-for-70).

Its going to be pretty hard for the Phils to move Bucholtz during the season for a pitcher. They traded him to the astros for Wagner. He projects possibly as a closer/3rd starter. The well is still full with good prospects for the phils to try and move. Don't be shocked if Millwood does sign, he didn't put up a commanding performance last year, isn't getting a lot of pub/interest and hasn't ruled out Philly , especially with the Wagner signing.

You are right about Bucholtz being in the Wagner deal, it was actually first baseman Ryan Howard, who nearly won the Florida State League triple crown but is blocked by Jim Thome, that people speculate the Phils will deal at next years trading deadline.

The Oakland Athletics have agreed to a deal that will send All-Star catcher Ramon Hernandez and outfielder Terrence Long to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Mark Kotsay, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.The trade will be announced later Tuesday afternoon.__________________________________________Interesting deal.
