BASEketball - Yay or nay? (1 Viewer)

TheIronSheik

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
I know this movie flopped when it came out, but I loved it. It had so many funny lines and I think they took a pretty good jab at professional sports without trying to be too serious. Done by the Airplane guys and starring the South Park guys.

I forced my GF and one of my gay friends to watch it, and they were reluctant, but after seeing it, both said it was very funny. But I also have friends who love sports and South Park who hated it, so there doesn't seem to be a type that likes or hates it.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone with this thread, just trying to hear your thoughts. Just wondering if you liked it or hated it, and maybe a little explanation as to why you did.

I love sports and love South Park.

Found it just okay. Not nearly as funny as South Park and I think I just expected more.

Was listening to Dan Lebatard yesterday driving home and he had Al Michaels on. They brought this movie up and he said it was a horrible decision he made to be in it and he was sure only about 11 people on Earth had ever seen it.

I don't think he realizes that it's kind of a cult classic now.

I liked it.

Taking the kid out to the bar and having him drink shots with them, :lmao:

Plus taking the shots they did at professional sports made me laugh.

But I'm a big fan of movies like Airplane, the Naked Gun etc.

Not as good as Cannibal the Musical or Orgazmo by the South Park boys. I liked it, but I don't think it holds up with multiple viewings.

I thought it was pretty good. Team America (####, Yeah!) and Orgazmo were very funny to me as well.
Team America is one of my favorite comedies of all time. Orgazmo was funny to me, but not enough where I'd really care to watch it again. TA and BASEketball are movies I can watch over and over and over. Literally.

This scene always cracked me up:

Dan Patrick: With the first nine months of the Baseketball postseason out of the way, the playoff picture is starting to emerge.

Kenny Mayne: So, with last night's victory over Boston, next week the Milwaukee Beers must beat Indianapolis in order to advance to Charlotte. That's in an effort to reduce their magic number to three.

Dan Patrick: Right, and then the Beers can advance to the National Eastern Division North to play Tampa.

Kenny Mayne: So, if the Beers beat Detroit and Denver beats Atlanta in the American Southwestern Division East Northern, then Milwaukee goes to the Denslow Cup, unless Baltimore can upset Buffalo and Charlotte ties Toronto, then Oakland would play LA and Pittsburgh in a blind choice round robin. And if no clear winner emerges from all of this, a two-man sack race will be held on consecutive Sundays until a champion can be crowned.

Forgot about that one. Pretty good, too. As for multiple viewings, as I said above, I can watch it on a loop.

Not a huge fan South Park fan, but loved this movie. I've watched it many times.

Steeeeve Perry. Steeeeve Perry.

Like south park, absolute loathe this movie.

didnt even crack a smile, I dont think.

Everything else theyve done has been solid

I watched it once in the theaters.....never watched it again. Makes me think it was either bad or just OK. I dont recall which.

I own it. If your a sports movie fan and like crude humor....it is in your wheel house.

So bad it's great type of movie.

Go to your corner little #####!!!

Robert Vaughn was great in this one as well as Carmen Electra. Lot's of great sexual innuendo throughout. Some LOL moments. The cheerleaders from different teams, the actual teams from different cities being totally stereotyped....it was a lot of laughs.

I swear, if you guys make fun of me 15 or 16 more times, I am so out of here. :hot:

Or the halftime show at the Denslow Cup......my god. Funny stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen! For the 7th-inning entertainment,
the National Baseketball League is proud to present
a salute to our South Sea neighbors: Viva Calypso!
We're up 16 to nothing. Have the trucks pull up to the locker room.
We'll sort out the stuff when we get to Jacksonville.
Hey, Baxter? I finally got all the chrome off this for you.
Nice.
You want me to start on this one?
Ladies and gentlemen,
please direct your attention to the Malaka-Laka Balance Board of Trust,
symbol of brotherhood in many Polynesian countries. In the role
of the downtrodden but happy natives: Your Milwaukee Beers!
Thanks for flying back, Coop. You really made a difference!
If not for your mess, I wouldn't be jetlagged
and ####ting curry.
Guys, knock it off!
Representing their white colonial oppressors:
The Dallas Felons. Now let's all join
our Caribbean brothers in the ceremonial handshake
above the Lagoon of Peace.
Let go!
Stop it!
Guys!
Stop it!
Money-grubber!
Powermonger!
Die!
#######!
Would you just stop it?
Look at you guys, fighting on the Malaka-Laka board!
You should be ashamed!
Back in the driveway we were nothing.
Now we've risen to the highest level,
but you're throwing it all away.
If you've forgotten what baseketball means to America,

I'm a fan of slapstick, stupid, crude humor and am pretty OCD about finishing a movie once I start it, even if it sucks. I can count on one hand the number of movies I've not watched to the end. BASEketball is one of them.

I hear this a lot. It seems odd to me.

I wonder how much the age at which you originally saw it makes a difference.

I saw baseketball of the first time when I was younger and love it. Watched Team America for the first time recently and thought it sucked.

What age demographic were you in when you watched Team America?

I love the Reggie Jackson part at the end. The whole movie is money, but anytime you can get a celebrity to curse, it's comedy gold.

Robert Stack - "According to Elsie Majcher, a neighbor, who asked not to be identified..."

"According to Angelique Bowmans, the nosy ##### who lives down the street..."

"Scenario #1: He's hanging by his neck in his ####### closet..."

"Update! We still have no ####### clue where this guy is..."

The first line, he doesn't curse, but it's still a great line. :lmao:

Loved the movie. It has so many little things, Kareem sitting in the trophy case, the World Series tape getting recorded over by the road kill montage, "your mom is deaf".

Al Michaels: "I don't think I've ever been this excited"

Bob Costas: "You think you' re excited, feel these nipples!

Yah for me too.

Bob Costas: It's hard to believe that just five years ago this game was played only in driveways.

Al Michaels: [camera shifts to Beers cheerleaders] Yes, it's also hard to believe that just five years ago those girls were only in grade school.
