BDPSL (Bid for your Draft Position Survivor League) (1 Viewer)

Please post here for comments and/or questions about the bidding portion of this draft. Please try to keep all commentary in this thread.

Bidding begins at 11 AM ET Monday 4/23. Please keep in mind that all bids are relative to one another. What this means is that once the bidding concludes, the slot with the lowest bid will be brought to zero and the rest of the slots will have that same amount subtracted from them ( for example, if slot 13 ends up with .40 points bid on it and that's the lowest bid, then we'll manually adjust that score to zero and subtract .40 from every other bid). I hope that makes sense. Thank you all for trying something new. Let's have some fun with this.

The only part I don't get is this...

Hypothetically, if I were to never bid on a single roster spot, I could still get saddled at a spot that previously had bidding - and would therefore have to give up whatever # of points are already associated with that spot?!

Is that right or am I reading something wrong?

If that is right, does it make sense that I never bid on any spots at all - yet have to lose a certain amount of points each week?

Just trying to understand - thanks!

You have to bid to get what you want - or avoid what you don't want

Nonetheless, so I still may have to give up points on a weekly basis even if I never made a single bid, right?(Again, just trying to understand - not trying to be difficult.)

Yes, you will be getting stuck at whatever the bid was for that slot. That's why you need to bid in order to move off of that spot if you want to give up fewer points. Refer to some of Bass' posts in the original thread. All the positions are relative to one another. If you're not happy with the spot that's been handed to you (because in your opinion, you're are giving up too many points from that spot), then you have the option of bidding on a relatively lower spot.

I honestly thought there would be BIGGER moves for the top spots than this.

I mean, even if LT comes back to Earth, it would take a 20% correction in his 2006 points to match the # 3 back.

Everyone has now checked in so we're all good. valence is the only to not have made a bit yet, and he already contacted me about having jury duty. He'll be checking in a couple hours. So, everyone who signed up is rolling and aware that we've started. :whoosh:

seriously, you guys need to quit #####footing around and put some real bids on those top spots.
You boys are so lucky I did not see this before it was too late..........come on......START BIDDING!!!!!I BID 20 FOR SPOT 1 RIGHT NOW!!!!!

Just out of curiousity, where will this be posted when all is said and done? On Twilight's FFPlace page? If so, can it be set up to automatically deduct points every week?

If not, how is this going to work? Will we each just subtract out our bid each week? Meaning, if I end up at spot X at a bid price of Y, we just subtract my score every week by Y?

Good questions. I have yet to talk to Twilight to see if he can put this on his website. The problem is that we would require decimal scoring, and I don't want to assume that he'd even be willing to do it but I'll ask him. If he is not able to host it, then I'll be scoring it manually each week unless I can come up with another alternative (maybe an MFL hosted site). But yes, the bids will be subtracted from a team's weekly points.

Wimp, way to bid real high.

I don't see how this will start to taper off.... what's the end game?

I think a % of your points would have been better (as it would have a clear maximum) - but even then I could see this becoming a mess.

For that kind of dead money we can make room and arrange side bets.20 points PER week will totally negate your advantage of having LT2

I can think of a scenario where it doesn't.

I agree with this. I have no idea how the bidding will ever end b/c of the different values we all place on the picks. For instance (using a total hypothetical here and not going by the actual current scenario at all), let's say we have...Pick 1 - 10 ptsPick 2 - 9 ptsPick 3 - 6 ptsPick 4 - 3Pick 5 - 1Pick 6 - 0Well, that ratio (so to speak of 10:9:6:3:1:0) is not the same for everyone. For instance, after a couple of changes, let's say it looks like: 10 - 9.5 - 8.5 - 7 - 6 - 5.Well, then it isn't like the guy with the 6th spot is saving 10 points (as they were before: 10-0 = 10).Now the guy with the 6th spot is paying only 5 points less (10-5 = 5), so he may figure that he should just raise Pick 1 to 11 points.Meaning, he might have very well been fine staying at Pick 6 if it would cost him nothing. But after lots of maneuvering, he finds himself owing 5 points. So he changes the top pick to 11 and the whole landscape will start changing as well.Perhaps I didn't even make sense. (Hey, makes sense in my head.)But I guess given all that - part of me is really excited by all this to see just how it does in fact all play out and where things finally (if ever) end up.I think it is an awesome idea and am really looking forward to seeing how everything plays out during the season. For a guy that has been straddled with a ton of bad picks recently (WSL1 - spot 11; PDSL2 - spot 13; plus almost all bad picks last year in MBSL, SSL, etc), this is exactly the kind of draft that proves my point: if the value weren't at the early picks, then why does everyone want them?!Good stuff, Radballs.

Restless Natives - 0.00You need to see some differentiation in these positions established before this plays out. That may not happen until peak LT value is finally established. Thus far less than 4 bids per position on average...I would expect this to get significantly higher with 16 teams defining market value.

I agree. We haven't even seen anyone back up yet to a lower bid value position because they felt they were swapped into something overpriced yet. This might take a couple more days but I do see an end to it.....I think.

Some people's end game may be to have 0, letting others pay a price. This may be close to what the end is going to look like.

I agree. But, then you would have the guy at 15 or 16 bid .05 for the 10 spot so it will filter down. I think there will be a couple 0.00 at the end, but that is it.

Why not allow negative bidding for the final four spots?

Why not allow negative bidding for the final four spots?
Do you mean the final four spots still sitting at 0.00, or the 13th through 16th slots? Because if the later, those would be steals for sure. I'd take the 15th or 16th for a negative bid!!! I really think you mean the final four spots at 0.00 though, so just bustin' on ya!!!If the second bid league moves forward (which I doubt at this point) I'd be interested in this neg-bid option.

As usual with something new, wrinkles are worked out (See White Elephant).Would have enjoyed this (I think) but too swamped. Have fun all.

Also allowing negative bids for the last few picks brings all 16 into play at once (it seems) - which I think would be a good thing.

I dont see why Id rather be at 16 then say 12,13

A possible way to taper this down would be:

Increase the minimum increment

.05 till Midnight EST Thur

.1 untill Midnight EST Fri

.5 untill Midnight Mon

1 until Midnight Tues...

Looking at where we are now after about 28 hours, I suspect we'll be done around Thursday or Friday.

A possible way to taper this down would be:Increase the minimum increment.05 till Midnight EST Thur.1 untill Midnight EST Fri.5 untill Midnight Mon1 until Midnight Tues...
The draft doesn't begin until SSL1 finishes as I recall so there's no huge rush. Conceiveably this weekend's events could shuffle the value of the end slots.I'm actually shocked at the price people have put on 1.1, it's already double what I expected.

I'm actually more suprised that #2 is only a point or so behind the #1 slot at the moment. At some point there's diminishing returns...
