Beanie or Hightower? Hightower or Beanie? (1 Viewer)

"Update: Arizona head coach Ken Whisenhunt views Wells and Tim Hightower as virtually interchangeable, according to the Cardinals' official site. "It's play-driven, package driven," Whisenhunt said. "They can go in and out on a play-by-play basis. It's really not a conscious effort [that Wells has received significantly more carries in recent weeks] as much as it is a game-plan-type thing." Whisenhunt added that Hightower, who has been limited in the last few games by a thumb injury, could reclaim carries from Wells."

STL would be a great matchup for Beanie this week, so is Whisenhunt just throwing out these comments to confuse the Rams or something more sinister (i.e. Hightower really getting more carries than the past two weeks). We've seen plenty of examples this year of coaches not being able to recognize the better runner (Kolby Smith over Jamaal Charles, Julius Jones over Forsett), so this has me concerned a bit. I'm pretty sure I won't be happy if I go with Beanie over, say, Mendenhall, and Beanie gets < 10 touches.

Wells is a much more explosive RB than Hightower, but I doubt that he will see 20-25 touches a game until next year..if that.

Even in part time use Wells can get you 70-80 total yards and a TD. What more can you ask for limited touches.

The last two games, THT has had mory carries than rushing yards - 8 carries for 7 yards rushing (for those as mathmatically challenged as me, that is an average of < 1/YPC) against Detroit and SF. In those same two games, Beanie has 189 yards on 32 total carries - for a 5.90 YPC. If Wisenhunt is really that stupid, he wouldn't be a head coach in the NFL. Also THT has 59 receptions while Wells has but 11 - the point? They are not and have not been "interchangeable" - one is used for pass catching, the other for pounding the rock. Against the 27th ranked rushing defense at home, I'll take my chances with the latter rather than the former. Arizona should open up a nice lead - and Beanie could easily end up with 20 touches.
