Beanie Wells "stands up" Broncos (1 Viewer)

Sorry if a Honda. Searched the first couple pages and didn't see anything.

Beanie no-show.

Whatever interest the Broncos had in Chris "Beanie" Wells figures to diminish after the Ohio State running back missed his flight and didn't show for his scheduled visit to Dove Valley.

Wells is generally regarded as the second-best tailback prospect in the upcoming NFL draft, behind Georgia's Knowshon Moreno. The Broncos may have been considering Wells with the 18th overall pick.

There's no proof Jay Culter called Wells and encouraged him to blow off the Broncos.

Mike Klis contributed to this report...but the last line was mine.

Beanie’s Agent Explains Broncos Blow OffPosted by Mike Florio on April 9, 2009, 8:10 a.m.

We were told last night that Ohio State running back Chris “Beanie” Wells didn’t show for his Wednesday visit with the Broncos because he missed his flight.Adam Heller of DeBartolo Sports Agency has supplied the player’s side of the story.“Beanie was scheduled to be in Denver yesterday for a short ‘in and out’ visit with the Broncos,” Heller told us via e-mail. “Per his flight itinerary, he was getting in at 9:33 AM and then leaving for Arizona [at] 3:00.“The flight to Denver was delayed due to mechanical issues so it made the Broncos visit impossible. However, because is was still the best way to get to [Arizona], Beanie took the flight, went through Denver and then got on his flight to Arizona and is there now. The Broncos were aware of the flight delay.”We appreciate the explanation, but the chain of events suggests that Wells prefers the Cardinals to the Broncos. Or Wells would have stayed in Denver and taken a later flight to Arizona.Wells was in Denver. And instead of finding a way to visit the Broncos and then head to Phoenix, Wells jumped a plane to Arizona.Frankly, Wells probably made the smarter move. The Cardinals are widely regarded as looking for a running back in round one; for the Broncos, who signed at last count 13 free-agent tailbacks, more pressing needs arise elsewhere.

I don't think DEN wa really interested in taking Wells. What this says more to me than anything, is that DEN is no longer seen as RB heaven, where any stiff can run for 1,000 yards, and a good RB can get 1500-2000. I think most of us have known that already, this just adds to that impression.

;)For those of you who like to defend Mike Florio, look no further than this muckraking masterpiece.

:goodposting: It's also possible the Broncos simply said "Beanie, head over to Arizona and we'll reschedule our visit for another day, we have another prospect coming in and don't want everyones schedule getting screwed up by this one flight delay". I think reading anything into a mechanical failure of an airplane is just silly, the writer of the article doesn't seem too professional.

This is clearly McDaniels' fault.
I heard he lied to Beanie and told him they were going to draft him, Beanie found out that it was a total lie and the meeting was solely for possible trade leverage and confronted McDaniel's. McDaniel's said as the supreme leader of the Broncos he could lie to whoever he wanted to, Beanie's feelings were hurt and he skipped the meeting.

I don't know who pays for the flights for these visits but this one obviously wasn't paid for by Denver. If they want to meet with him bad enough, I'm sure he can fly to Denver another time.

I don't completely agree. I still think Denver is an RB heaven. But given the circumstances, if I were Wells, I'd also prefer to go to a team that is closer to a SB ring (ARI) and not to one where I'd have to compete with the other 25 RBs on the roster (DEN).

So you're subscribing to the notion that this whole mechanical problems thing is just cover for blowing off the Broncos and opting instead for the Cardinals?

I never said that. Read clearly what I said. What I mentioned has nothing to do with mechanical problems. I was answering the point that Wells and everyone else no longer thinks that Denver is seen as RB Heaven. I disagree. If Wells' plane had mechanical problems and had to choose to make only one scheduled appointment, I would understand why he would have chosen ARO over DEN. So :lmao: right back at ya'.

Whatever. You're talking in circles.

Dang it, I knew I was too late to post this.Nice one.

BTW, the whole "prefers" one team to another is pretty much horse pucky IMO.

I appreciate the stories on PFT, but Florio is a knucklehead, and just stirs the pot for the heck of it, and insults the readers intelligence.

Denver is picking 12 and 18. Trust me, Beanie would prefer them to draft him. This is millions of dollars we are talking about, the difference between going 12/18 and 31.
