LAKE FOREST, Ill. The Chicago Bears have signed running back Tony Hollings to a two-year contract.Hollings played three seasons with the Houston Texans -- making one start and appearing in 23 games. He has 149 career rushing yards on 49 carries and caught seven passes for 71 yards.Hollings was picked in the second round of the 2003 N-F-L Supplemental Draft out of Georgia Tech.Terms of his deal with the Bears weren't disclosed.
If I was one to jump to conclusions... I'd have to wonder does this open the door for a Thomas Jones trade?

I must agree with the others in that all it means is Hollings is being brought in with a chance to compete for a roster spot. He has not ever shown enough in the NFL to be any sort of a sign on what might happen with Cedric Benson or Thomas Jones.

The Bears were interested in Hollings when he came out in the supplemental draft.

They didn't want to WASTE a 3rd round pick on him though (enter the Texans).

Hollings is the type of guy every team likes to invite to camp hoping they get lucky. He was a solid prospect coming out of G-Tech but has done squat since he got hurt and entered the NFL. If he works out than that's a nice plus for the Bears because there's little invested here. If not they launch him and there's no ramifications. There's no downside to this type of move as long as expectations are very realistic (which they are).

Big question is - come september 1st will he be on the Bears roster- and the answer is - too early to tell - although it does speak volumes to be cut by the Texans...

How does this affect Domanick Davis and Jonathan Wells?

TIA

it doesn't

Really? Could you elaborate?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I can.Hollings was cut by the Texans some time ago. His signing by the Bears means nothing to Davis, who has Morency and now rookie Lundy backing him up. Hollings was the #4 RB last year anyway, behind Davis, Wells, Morency. Hollings was no factor in 2005, and his departure has no effect on the Texans in 2006.

The only possible effect on Wells, who is still a UFA, is he is now less likely to be signed by the Bears since they just signed Hollings. That doesn't mean much.

They preferred to waste it on Bernard Berrien. :o

Berrian is the goods... you'll see.And truth be told, the Texans used a SECOND ROUNDER on Hollings :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I think he's merely insurance in case Thomas Jones decides he wants to play games and hold out.
