Beason injured (1 Viewer)

Rotoworld:

Panthers LB Jon Beason left Saturday's game with a knee injury and is considered doubtful to return.

Right tackle Jeff Otah also limped off with an undetermined injury but later returned. Stay tuned for details on Beason's knee.

Does anybody know what happened? I see Connor tearing it up in the box score, did he take over MLB?

Beason got hurt on the same play as Otah. They commented that they believed it to be minor, but wanted to be cautious and let Conner take more action at MLB.

My replay was not the best but it looked like his knee hit a helmet. The camera was focused on Otah.

update from Chris Mortensen's twitter:

Just left Dolphins-Panthers. Bad new for Panthers: Pro Bowl MLB Jon Beeson on crutches with "at least" MCL injury...stay tuned on this one.

 Connor would undoubtedly take over at MLB if Beason misses time.
Oh there is doubt. I'd rater move Davis over than start Connor for any time.
spoken like a Davis owner Conner will be better than him in the middle
We may be getting ahead of ourselves here but if Beason is out, I doubt that Connor would assume 3 down responsibilities. Therefore, Davis would be the man to have until Beason returns IMO.

If he does miss any significant time the only noteworthy player that might receive a bump in value is Chris Harris.

IMHO.

Has there been any official announcement about a timeframe for return?

Assuming the reports are correct, strained MCL, Jene do you have some medical insight for us? Assuming this is a grade 1 strain, we can normally expect 2 weeks correct?

Right now I'm keeping him where he was in the rankings, unless that diagnosis changes significantly.

No specific medical insight. There have been some who played through Grade 1 tears (Mike Peterson a few years ago comes to mind). Thomas Davis is now apparently saying his injury was a mild MCL sprain; he was out a little over two weeks. I think the next indication we'll get, unless Beason starts talking, is the Week 1 practice report.

Ok, here's my take on this situation. Rather then take a chance on Davis - who is coming off of his own MCL injury, how he could possibly learn the MLB position for the opener while hurt is beyond me... but moving on to the point.

The point in drafting is all about value. Based on Davis' numbers, he's going to go early in IDP drafts. My draft is a 14-teamer and it's 2 days away.

I'll take the chance on Dan Connor in either of the last 3 rounds over a hurt Davis who in my opinion, will get drafted too high.

1. Davis won't be considered for MLB, unless I read you wrong.2. Didn't Davis already return to practice, so is he still hurt? Why take a Connor type over a proven player like Davis?

Let's talk numbers, Davis was ranked #20 overall in my IDP in scoring last season. People already know his potential and I really think that he reached it last year and don't see him going much higher then #20 again this season.I tend to favor MLB because tackles is the only consistent stat year to year you can count on in IDP leagues and the LB spot, the best to get those numbers. And with Carolina, you're talking about a 4-3 defense with last year's leading tackler having sustained an injury that most have been mum about, although the typical ready by the season opener talk is well underway, let's say it's more serious, or let's say he doesn't play week 1?

With that said, I'm willing to take a flyer on Dan Connor in the last round, even if it's just for one weeks worth of stats.

Oh, about the MLB comment, I was referring to what was already said in this thread, some people were leaning towards Davis replacing the injured Beason at MLB; but that was just speculation, it's pretty much confirmed that Dan Connor is the back-up and no one is sliding over to replace his position - News about Dan Connor starting

So my answer as to why take Connor in the draft over a proven player like Davis, is Davis will likely be gone in the first 15-25 IDP's drafted, Connor will still be looking for a roster when the last few rounds roll around, so if the Beason injury turns out to be serious, then the #6 overall-rated IDP player last season's stats have to slide somewhere, and my money is that a good bit of that lands on Dan Connor's shoulders, again, even if it's just for one week, I'll take my chances!

As a Charlotte homer I can say pretty assuredly that the MLB will be Connors if Beason is out. And although no Beason he will be better than serviceable with some more game time.
