The Saints go back to Seattle this weekend, three years and a few days after Marshawn Lynch ripped their hearts out and triggered seismic activity with my all-time favorite NFL run.

Bonus coverage via an oral history of the play from ESPN. Interesting comments from Lynch at the bottom about what the play means to him personally as well. Don't really remember hearing him speak openly very much.

All-time greatest NFL run? Or the greatest ever NFL run?

It was a great run, but it would have to be in a Super Bowl to be the greatest NFL run ever. Think Riggins. Iconic.

As a Seahawks fan this is one of my all time favorites and certainly very memorable (I was at the game). I think it measures up nicely with other "great runs" throughout the NFL history, but I would hard pressed to think it was the greatest ever. The truth is, once Marshawn got the first down the Saints needed a turnover and they were clearly going for the strip which in part is the reason for the terrible tackling attempts.

As mentioned above, the Riggins run is pretty awesome.

In terms of just watching the run, it's pretty clearly among the best ever. Way better than the Riggins run; Riggins' run was a simple off-tackle with one broken tackle. Allen's reversal of field and cut through the line were pretty cool but again, not nearly as dynamic as Lynch's run.

Hearst's run is pretty close in terms of being exciting all the way through and showing speed, balance and strength.

Barry's got a bunch of great runs, I can't think of one that really stands out like that though.

The Steve Young run against Minnesota is a fun one.

I mean, if we're just talking about impressive runs that don't mean anything, how about Marion Barbers ridiculous scamper behind the line of scrimmage for about 8 seconds to avoid getting tackled for a safety? Only about a two yard gain, but impressive and fun.

The run had everything the "stiff arm get out of my way #####" in the middle of the run was one of the coolest things I have seen in a play.

The Steve Young scramble ranks way up there.

Maybe this one against the Bears.

Too bad there wasn't instant replay back in te day. He needed 96 yards and got 95.5 ;)

:goodposting:

The Greggggg Williams Saints defense was obsessed with turnovers - a philosophy that played a huge part in the Super Bowl run. It's always seemed obvious to me that they were more concerned with stripping than tackling on this run, but the admittedly awesome stiffarm just drowns out everything.
