Sheets leaves with groin strain

Chicago - Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets left the game against the Chicago Cubs today at Wrigley Field with a strained right groin.

Sheets pitched three innings and allowed no runs on four hits. He was involved in a play at third base in the bottom of the third inning where he tagged out Chicago's Ryan Therriot, who was trying to advance on a wide throw from right field by Corey Hart after a single by Cliff Floyd.

He stayed in to retire Derrek Lee on a fielder's choice grounder, but Elmer Dessens was warming up as the Brewers were batting in the top of the fourth.

Gallardo 6 innings, 1 hit, 7 k's last night in the minors. Guy is a stud who should be in the bigs. This could be the time.

Supposedly nothing serious...

Sheets' injury not deemed serious

An MRI performed on Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets today confirmed he has a slight groin strain that is not considered serious.

Sheets suffered the right groin strain Wednesday while pitching in Chicago and exited after three innings. But he was reported to be "feeling much better" Thursday and was scheduled to rejoin the club in Houston. Sheets returned to Milwaukee for the examination and did not accompany the team to Houston Wednesday evening.

Sheets was listed as "probable" for his next scheduled start Tuesday against St. Louis at Miller Park. If he is not ready to pitch, he could be pushed back in the rotation or have a turn skipped.

Brewers spokesman Mike Vassallo said Sheets was examined by team physician William Raasch and received treatment after the MRI was done. No muscle tears were detected in the MRI.
