If Cedric Benson gets cut and B. Scott heads into the season with a starting gig or the lead in a time share will you look to hold him, trade for him or deal him because you think we would be at his high point.

I don't think there is any way that this guy can take the pounding that comes with being a bell cow running back. If Benson ends up being gone, Cincy will undoubtedly sign a free agent or make a trade.

I guess I would be inclined to see what I could get for him.

This has been bantered about and I can't for the life of me figure out why. Why can't Scott be the 'bell cow' running back? He doesn't have an injury history and he's done nothing but succeed why given the opportunity. He's averaged approx. 4.5 ypc in his 2 seasons and he is clearly twice the HB that Benson is. Why is it okay for Jamaal Charles or Chris Johnson to carry the load but not Scott? Everyone deserves their shot. It's about time Cincy finds out what they have in Scott especially since this is going to be a lost season anyhow. If Scott holds up fine with 275 carries, 40 receptions and averages 4.4 ypc, then everyone's tune about Scott will change.

Benson is an UFA - so he can't be cut. Semnatics aside, although I like Scott quite a bit, Marvin Lewis does not seem to trust him as a feature back so the Bengals would likely sign another veteran back like Ronnie Brown or Willis Magahee (assuming he gets cut) instead of Benson if this arrest sours the team on him.

For one thing, Benson is coming back. Mike Brown is going to use his off the field problems to re-sign him on the cheap. But I do think Scott could earn himself a bigger role if he does well while Benson is out.

I'd love to know why some people are so convinced that Scott will never be a startable fantasy back. He's only been in the league for two years. In those two years he averaged above 4 yards a carry both times. He's only had two games in his career where he was given a chance at being the main ball carrier, in both of those games he performed very well. Week 11 2009 he received 21 carries and rushed for 119 yards at 5.7 yards a carry. The following week he received 18 carries and rushed for 87 yards at 4.8 yards a carry.

I think he could, but Marvin Lewis and the Bengals don't seem to think so. Why else play a mediocre Benson down the strecth during a losing season and make re-signing him such a priority?

There is no way this guy can carry the load of a full NFL season....If he enters camp as the starting RB they will be in serious trouble. I think Benson will test the market and resign for a much lower cost and be the 2-3 year stop-gap RB until a Lawrence Phillips type RB shows up in FA or the draft that Mike Brown will want to build around.

The thing with Scott is that you were never waiting on him to be a feature back (I hope). He's like Rashad Jennings - you roster him because when you need a spot start you can hope he gets 5-10 touches and busts a big one, or because he'll be a nice RB2 with upside if the starter gets hurt. I put him in the class with BJGE the past two seasons, Jerious Norwood a few seasons ago, Rashad Jennings now, Darren Sproles when LT was being absolutely dominant and he (Sproles) didn't get as much work as he has the last couple years...The type of guys that you plan on starting once, maybe twice a year, but hope you can start 4 or 5 times. He's a nice 2nd/3rd backup RB to have, IMO.
ETA: I thought I'd just quote myself from the other Bernard Scott thread. The one that would have been found if the search function and an ability to spell had been utilized in the first place.

fellas, lets treat the new guy a little bit nicer. don't think he knows to search, but i guess the good news is now he does...

As I said in one of the other threads, Cedric Pearman destroyed it last preseason. He seems to have his fumbling issues sorted out. Guy has RB1 type of skills if he can get the weaknesses under control. However, if Cincy is rolling with a rook at QB they may want a more proven guy- Pearman or Scott may not be that guy

I thought we responded pretty tamely. No sarcasm, and I said "please" - that's nice. :)

Bernard Scott has potential but I don't think he will ever be a starting RB. Benson will come back IMO and Peerman could take over that #2 spot
