Benching Drew Brees? (1 Viewer)

I can't imagine doing it unless there is a ridiculous matchup but this might just be that.. On the road, in one of the most difficult stadiums to play, in predicted 38 degree weather with possible rain against the Seahawks and their corners and this might have 220/1/1 written all over it..

You'd have to have some pretty big cojones to do it and you'd need a very good second option which people who have Brees might not have another option, but I'm going to go with Foles

Won't Seattle be coming out of the bye missing Thurmond and Browner? The weather and stadium are legitimate concerns, but I think the Legion has lost some of its Boom and I wouldn't over think it unless you had a great backup.

I have the same concerns. Brees has been overall fantastic this year. 4 games of >40 pts. in my league.

I'm scared he has a game like the last two weeks. around 250 yds and 2 tds.

Now in my league, that's 22 points. That's just OK.

There is Big Ben, Kap and Palmer on the wire. Palmer has a sweet matchup at PHL, Kap at home versus St.Louis and Ben(playing well lately) at Balt. Very tempting to play the better matchups but not sure these three outscore Brees, and which one does it?

The FF Gods can be cruel. I hope Brees beats up the depleted secondary and gets closer to 300+ yds and 2-3 tds. :towelwave:

Choice of Big Ben and Brees myself. Can't trust the WW although 2 guys catch my eye in Flynn and MyGroin. Just don't have the nuts to put either of them in over Brees. Have to ride Brees needing a win to get in.

Brees' numbers the last time he and Payton faced a top 3 defense on the road:

40/63 462yards 4 TDs 2 INTs

benching drew breeser is a lot like putting the rear end from a 72 pacer into a fuel injected jet powered funny car you could do it i guess but why would you the answer is that you would not it is dumb to do that you would never win a race and no one ever thought the 72 pacer had a good rear end so bam take that to the bank brohans

If you are thinking about benching Brees in any week, you really are overthinking things. One of the reasons you own him is so you can just set and forget at QB.

I have Foles and would have no problem starting him over Brees this week if he had a good matchup. But he faces Arizona, so his isn't much better. Rolling with Brees.

Seems like a valid question, even though mostly everyone will play Brees anyway. His start % did drop from 100% to 98% on CBS, so some owners are considering it.

Right now in CBS the No. 2 QB in FF, Drew Brees, is started by 98% of all owners.

The No. 2 DST, Seattle DST, is started by 48% of all owners. My guess is that goes down further as owners adjust their lineups during the week.

Rolling with Brees for an NFFC division title. He was our second round pick (6 points per passing TD in NFFC scoring) and we're gonna' live or die by him!

Ummm his downside is like 250 and 2 tds. Wtf are you smoking?
His downside is less than that, especially in SEA. He has had a fantastic season. He scored 40+ points 4 times this year in our league.

I'm concerned about SEA, the road trip and the weather. Legitimately asking if other QB's may be a better option.

If Manning gave you that stat line like he did last week on NE, you'd be pissed. But it's OK for Brees?

This is the week to secure a playoff spot and I will start him because he's a STUD. However, my expectations are lower because of what I mentioned.

29 19 42 45 23 20 0 48 28 44 21 23

You have to start your studs. We had a guy bench Peyton Manning today due to the match up, and his opponent had Decker. Needless to say he will lose. Don't overthink.

SEA is without guys on D--and I'm playing against Brees this week. You have nothing to fear.

If the goal is to start the players that get the most points. Alex Smith had 296 yards passing, 2 passing TDs, and 46 yards rushing. This on a week where Brees is up against a tough D on the road with bad weather in the forecast. As much as I like Brees, it's going to be tough for him to equal that production tomorrow night.

if the goal is to start the players to get the most points you should have started Willis McGahee over Frank Gore and Andre Holmes over Demaryius Thomas. the thing is you don't know beforehand what everyone will score. of course Smith will outscore Brees 20% of the time but you never play Alex Smith over Drew Brees unless it's 50+ MPH winds or some other circumstance where you know the Saints won't pass a lot. It's just not understanding probability

Seattle's weather forecast for tomorrow night is "mostly clear, low 30 degrees, 7MPH winds."

Drew Brees played college football outdoors in northern Indiana.

Don't blow your season by over"thinking".

Think what you want, but college is worth so little as far as weather is concerned. Just starts getting cold and the season ends. Bowl games usually in warm places. Cold weather college games @ purdue are too small a sample size

all this did was give the Brees owners that did bench him reason to think it's right to do it again. I'm sure a lot of Brees owners are in the playoffs and today didn't cost them a chance at the title (pending on league format). Now will they bench him vs Carolina in week 14? Probably not since it is @ home. But let's say Brees owners that benched him tonight get to a championship week 16 when it's @ Carolina. Getting away with benching him tonight might be reason enough for some to bench him again. I for one will not be if lucky enough to make it that far.

I'm sure this thread will get active this morning knowing FBG.

If I had to start Brees on the road in Seattle again, I would.

They shut him down, partly because the weather, but I will never bench Brees if he had no arms was blind and I was told he would get 0 TDs.

He is not a player to bench regardless of what happen yesterday.

The part in red is one big assumption to build a case around.

I did not bench him but managed to win anyway and get a first round bye. Guess I had better bench him week 15 on the road against the Rams, though, huh? Lesson learned.

Uh, no.

Brees is a matchup QB like anyone else. Against an average or weak team at home, he's good for 3-4 TD passes. But on the road or against a very good defense, he's a matchup play. MANY, MANY owners watched him get his 9 points last night and had backup QBs on the bench with twice that. Beware of the two Carolina matchups ahead.
