Is it just me, or would it be awesome if Mcnair became our backup qb?

He has lots of NFL experience, good locker room presence, tough as nails, and could be an awesome mentor to Carson Palmer.

And also

Do you think we will get Lavar Arrington and what are the chances we are switching to a 3-4 defense? Who do you think we will take in the first round of the draft? DT, LB, S, CB, TE?

While 100% unrealistic, yes that would be awesome. No on Arrington

Virtually nil on the 3-4.

Most of the scenarios I was throwing out are unrealistic, but I just wanted to spark some type of discussion.
Good to have you joining the board...I can assure you though, if you want to generate discussion, talk about something likely or realistic. All you are going to get with stuff like what you said is a reply mine.

Plenty of discussion in the IDP forum about the Bengal defense (and the likelihood of a 3-4 front). Here's the link over there.

With the signing of Sam Adams, I see no reason the Bengals can't use the best player available philosophy in the first round. They no longer have to feel obligated to take a big DT with question marks (Watson, etal) to fill that once glaring need. In fact, you have to think that they've decided that the Watsons and Wrotens of the world aren't worth the pick if they paid 3M+ to a relatively long in the tooth Sam Adams.

You may see a pass-catching TE (Pope, Lewis) to take the relieve concerns about Chris Henry's commitment to the team and give Carson Palmer yet another valuable weapon. You may see a DB (Allen, Whitner, big CB if they fall) to get in the pipeline to replace Tory James. If an amazing offensive tackle slips (doubtful), they may go in that direction as well.

Also, the 24 pick falls in an area where teams like to trade up to grab a guy in the late 1st. Without an obvious need and such a balanced draft at DE, DT, LB, TE, and S (i.e. you can get similar guys into the second round), you could see a team making a play for a slipping RB or defensive talent and offering the Bengals an extra pick. Marvin likes to build through the draft and has traded back in the first round before. Just a thought.

I think Henry could be traded for a pick.

I think Marvin is struggling to coax the Bungles to open their wallets for Lavar and while that's happenning the G-men will sign him.

After how well he did last season, I don't think Palmer really needs a mentor. But yes, McNair would be a great back-up QB.

No way McNair will go somewhere to be a back up, you guys are dreaming.

With all his off field troubles, I doubt you'd get much for Henry. I'm hoping he get the legal issues resolved and gets back on the field as a Bengal. He would have been a first round pick if he had his head on straight.

Running some 3-4 is NOT out of the question. Marvin openly discussed it in this article.

It's hardly a ringing endorsement for a switch, but the possibility is left open.

But he doesn't. I wouldn't want a troublemaker(off the field or on) on my team if I were Marvin. He did the impossible making them winners. I wouldn't want anything to risk that. Few "troublemakers", like LT, don't affect the team on the field in some way.

I think Marvin can straighten him out. And it sounds like Henry is getting the charges reduced.
