Bengals ink Benson (1 Viewer)

The Bengals filled a major gap Tuesday when they re-signed their starting running back for the upcoming season a day after Cedric Benson visited the Texans, the club announced.

After joining the club with the benefit of no training camp after the season's fourth game, Benson finished the year with back-to-back 100-yard games that included the biggest rushing day by a Bengals back in 68 games when he went for 171 against Cleveland.

The move also opens up the first couple of rounds of the NFL Draft, where they now don't have to take a running back.

Benson, 26, shed his image as a moody player with off-field problems by becoming one of the few bright spots in the 4-11-1 season with the longest run (46) and longest catch (79).\

Good signing. Bag on Benson all you want, the guy played hard the last few weeks of the season and had poor QB and O-line play.

Yeah he has the talent. Can he put it all together with Palmer as QB? Maybe. I'll admit he helped me win a few games in the FF playoffs

I'm a Steeler fan and I'd rather him be outside the division. He put 43 in La La land last year on one run and ran hard that whole game.

It really seems like the epitome of a good deal both ways. The Bengals get a starting RB who has shown promise for a reasonable rate that won't hurt their needs elsewhere. Benson gets a contract that's an increase from what he made as a street pickup last year but with a short enough term that he can bag some major bucks if he puts up numbers that are worthy of his original #4 pick status, with a probable renegotiation next year if he proves worthy. The Bengals don't assume any long-term risk and now can take a later-round RB to develop while meeting their primary needs earlier in the draft.

 all the way around.

Great deal for the Bengals, he should still be motivated with that contract. He received the wake-up call and answered.

The O-line needs to get better.

Healthy Palmer

Cedric/3rd down back

Ocho/Chris Henry/young pups

An improved Defense

/agree fully. Now they need to address their OL.

I actually think this is a good signing and I might be targetting him as an option for my RB3. I think he will drop in FF drafts and will be a decent value next year.

First good thing that's happened to my team this offseason. As bad as it sounds, at this point I have to rely on him and McFadden as my RB2
