Oh, my fault. I didn't see that thread. Thought it was kinda odd there was no presseason game threadsI thought we were better off last night with one thread on all the games.
Yeah, not sure we need individual game threads for preseason games. It's kind of killing the rest of the discussion threads on the Shark Pool.I thought we were better off last night with one thread on all the games.

We're going to be saying that a lot this year I think.Horrible roughing the passer call on Suh.
Like a typical rookie QB that is being thrown into the fire waaay too early. He is going to check down more than Trent Edwards and that is saying a lot.Any news on how Dalton looked?
Horrible as in shoulda not been called? or horrible as in he looked like he's in the WWF? I'll go with the latter.Horrible roughing the passer call on Suh.
Yeah, pretty sure they went 3-1 in the preseason last year too.The Lions are looking pretty good!![]()
He looked completely lost out there. That INT he threw was severely underthrown. He didn't put anything behind it. He had a chance to step up and make the throw.Gradkowski looked decent. If the Bengals want to win more than 2 games this season, they should go with Gradkowski.Shipley might catch 70-80 balls this year in that offense. They might only go for 700 yards, but in a PPR he could be a legit WR3.Like a typical rookie QB that is being thrown into the fire waaay too early. AJ Green was not really noticeable to me. That being said, I believe he was only out there in the 1st quarter when Dalton was under Center and looking completely dewildered. To their credit though, the Lions D looked good.any take on aj green?
That int was severely underthrown b/c AJ green got tangled up a bit and ran that route way wide. I think that throw was fine, but will wait to see it on SC.He looked completely lost out there. Suh has a target on his back..the guy is too physical and plays too rough for Goodells new rules. We're going to be saying that a lot this year I think.Horrible roughing the passer call on Suh.
I'm targetting Burleson late as a high upside WR3 candidate in PPR. I totally agree with you that the Lions will throw the ball a ton. Burleson is the clear #2 and finally healthy (for now), I think there will be enough balls to go around even with Best and Pettigrew/Scheffler around.Thoughts on the game:
1. Bengals are a bad bad team. Dalton looked like a rookie. He targeted AJ Green a lot, but to very little effect. The biggest play was a maybe a 8 yard pass to Green, he avoided a few tacklers running across the field. He looked quick, but the end result was him losing a yard or two on his cross field scamper.
2. Deja Vu as Suh did almost the same thing he did to Jake Delhomme in last year's preseason opener. He busted through the inside and wrapped Dalton up high as Dalton threw the ball. Dalton's helmet came off and for good measure, Suh wrapped Dalton up by the head and slammed him to the ground. I love the intimidation (and it was really wasn't a dangerous play), but I just worry some lineman is doing to take his knee out one day.
3. The Lions could lead the league in passing attempts this year. The Lions don't have an effective inside rusher so expect a lot of passes. Stafford looked like nearly flawless out there. His only incomplete was a perfect pass on an angle route to Best that Jahvid just dropped. It should be a really nice fantasy year for Stafford, Calvin, Best, Pettigrew (didn't play) and Burelson.
Cinci is really bad. Detroit's 2nd string offense (with an OL made up of many guys who won't even make the team) was moving the ball on the Bengals 1st team D.The Lions first teams looked crisp and efficient on both sides of the ball, like there had been no lockout whatsoever.Stafford showed touch on his passes, something which he had been lacking earlier in his career.. his rookie season, we probably aren't seeing those type of touchdown passes to Calvin and Burleson. The run game is more of the same, struggling to get push, open holes, and the running backs aren't getting much to work with. Not taking much away from it as it was the first preseason game, and against the Bengals, but they came out and did what you wanted them to do; make it look easy in an efficient mistake free manner.
I agree, but who do they put in? Gradkowski? Palmer?Even though the Bengals never do anything that makes sense, I find it hard to believe they will start Dalton if he doesn't show improvement. I think the rookie QBs are going to struggle even more so than normal because of the loss of OTAs.
I didn't see it live, but looking at the play by play, Detroit's 2nd string gained 7 yards on the 3rd series against 1st string guys. On the 4th series, they gained zero yards against Cincy's 1st and 2nd string. On the 5th series, they moved the ball against 2nd and 3rd string guys.Cinci is really bad. Camps opened about 2 weeks ago. How could he have been in camp a lot longer? That doesn't even factor in that Dalton is a rookie.dalton was in camp a lot longer than gradkowski
Palmer will never play another down for the Bengals, so Gradkowski. He isn't the greatest, but he was respectable with Oakland and they don't have much in the way of skill players. The point is Dalton is a rookie that had no OTAs. That is a really big deal for a rookie QB. Of course, this is the Bengals, so anything is possible.I agree, but who do they put in? Gradkowski? I looked back. It wasn't their full 1st team D, but Cinci played Manny Lawson, Michael Johnson, and possibly a few others the entire 1st half- even against Detroit's 3rd teamers.I don't recall exactly who else stayed in, but look at the box score and see Lawson and Johnson in on tackles.I didn't see it live, but looking at the play by play, Detroit's 2nd string gained 7 yards on the 3rd series against 1st string guys. After the Lions 4th series, there were 20 offensive plays the rest of the 1st half. There was 1/2 tackle by Johnson and 1/2 tackle by Lawson. the rest were made by 2nd and 3rd string guys. It clearly wasn't Cincy's 1st string defense.Of course, it doesn't say much for Cincy's depth when the Lions 2nd string moved pretty easily against the Bengals 2nd string.'Ilov80s said:I looked back. Lawson and Johnson played about the whole 1st half. I watched the whole game, but can't comment on other starters in the game. Gimme a break with the lions defense every game they win will be shootouts'jon_mx said:It was only Cincinnati, but the Lions defense is going to be really really good. Significant upgrades all over. Linebackers, DB, and Fairly. Plus a couple of rookies who played out of position and have a years experience will be much improved. This should be a top 10 defense.Gimme a break with the lions defense every game they win will be shootouts'jon_mx said:It was only Cincinnati, but the Lions defense is going to be really really good. Out with an injured hammy. According to sportsline he's questionable for the Jets game as well.-QGAnyone see Bernard Scott? Did he play?
dalton met with gruden immediately after the draft and was given a play book to study. he worked with the first team when camp opened on 7/30. gradkowski wasnt allowed to practice until 8/4. i dont think its at all unreasonable to think dalton is more familiar with the offense.'Anthony Borbely said:Palmer will never play another down for the Bengals, so Gradkowski. The hope is by the end of the two weeks that the offense will have gone over at least 100 plays.
Dalton said he has been studying the playbook and is trying to get up to speed as quick as possible.
