The Bengals needs as per NFL.com

DL, OL, RB, S

Needs Analysis: The Bengals need help at both offensive and defensive tackle. They probably will have a choice between the two in the first round. History says the Bengals will go for offense, but this might be the year they opt to take a defensive player. A center has to be drafted.

Note: I pulled Sanchez out of this poll, as I feel very confident that the Bengals are pretty happy with Palmer right now.

Looking forward to the discussion and debate!

Cheers,

Faust

Even with the "character" issues and whatever other issues with Smith, Bengals need help on the O-Line. They need to keep Carson off his back.... so he can make things happen. SUPER BOWL!!!!!!

I went Raji. From what Im hearing this is a weak draft from a DT standpoint. There is a better chance they can get a decent OT in later rounds because there is more depth at that position.

I was tempted to go with Raji but I picked Andre Smith as we all saw what happens to that offense when Carson Palmer goes down. I think the pick could go either way though.

I also believe they go OL but I just can't see this franchise taking a player with as many risk factors as Smith. I think Oher is th safer pick. Lower upside but still a solid pick.

I don't know why sites keep saying this when their last four 1st round picks have been defense. They have to go OT this year. The QB had absolutely no time last year.

I think Michael Oher or Andre Smith would be a reach at #6.

Their defensive line is just as pathetic considering they only managed 17 sacks last season. If Monroe and Jason Smith are both gone, they really need to select the best defensive end available or trade down (I voted Orakpo).

In the AFC North #1 priority is to stop the run, the Bungles D line is terrible.

If he falls, definitely Raji.

:(Last year everyone was certain that the Bengals were going to take Sedrick Ellis if he was still there for them but he wasn't, and since that point the Bengals haven't done anything to fix the whole in the middle. I think they take Raji.

I'm going to guess their draft board may look something like:

Jason Smith

Eugene Monroe

Aaron Curry

B.J. Raji

Andre Smith

Michael Crabtree

Michael Oher

so I went with Raji in a close one.

I voted trade down. If Crabtree is left, someone will almost certainly move up to snipe him from Oakland. If Crab is off the board, as this scenario played out, some team will want to get this pick to make sure Cincy AND Oakland doesn't take the OTs off the board. DT is very good through the 1st two rounds this year, and a stud can be had later. If they were to trade down, a 2nd tier OT (Britton maybe) could be had later in the 1st, while picking up a good player or high pick.

:goodposting: Sanchez seems to be climbing draft boards prior to the draft, so I could also see the Bengals trading down to a team that wants Sanchez badly - perhaps Denver?

The bengals are pretty good at DT with Sims, Peko and Tank. Think they'll go Andre Smith but I hope they go Orakpo

I'd love it if they could trade down and get Oher in the middle of round 1. Smith has too many character issues IMO. I think Marvin

wants to stay away from headaches like Smith (though obviously he doesn't have final say. i.e. Chris Henry). Even though they have

some depth at DT and need to protect Palmer, i'd rather them go with the safer pick of Raji over Smith. The Bengals can't afford another high 1st round bust. Maybe they could get Meredith in the 2nd and get lucky and have Wood their for there 3rd pick.

unfortunately, i just don't think the Bengals will find a team to trade up to the 6th spot.

Yup.. they won't take Raji after signing Tank. I don't really like a RT at 6 so I voted trade down.
Yeah I really dont like who's available at 6, but if forced to stay Id take DE Brian Orakpo or DE Michael Johnson, and hope Anthony Collins can be that guy at LT or hope Levi will be healthy which I doubt.

Voted Andre Smith, although I don't want him on the team, truthfully. Wish they could come up with a way to get one of the big 2 tackles.

Yeah, this is a big problem with predicting the Bengal's draft. If they can't get an OT here, it really impacts the rest of the draft. They really need a top OT and top C in the first 2 picks, but this would force them to lower their standards at OT and C. They could still grab a top C in the 2nd, but that even further lowers the level of OT they would get. Best case would be to take Orakpo here and hope that Beatty slips to the 2nd and Wood to the 3rd. If not, they may be forced to reach for one of those positions (taking Meredith in the second and Luigs/Caldwell in the 3rd). If defense ends up being the 1st round pick, my preference would be for the top C in the 2nd (hopefully Mack or Unger) then use the 3rd on the best OT available (maybe Loadholt is still there, or reach on Tupou).

Orakpo. Geathers' best days are behind him and Odom is a role player. Not much to talk about after that. Probably a reach, but I'd really like to see Ayers in a Bengal uniform.

With the signing of Tank and the development of Sims, the DT position is looking good. They've got a couple good tackles, three if Jones is healthy. The inside of the OL is worse off than the tackle position and they can address that in rounds 2 and 3.

What do ya'll think about Anthony Collins playing LT this year? He shut down some pretty good pass rushers and was just a rookie. So its not like the Bengals are desperate at LT, if you dont feel comfortable with Smith, you take the best player available which is Orakpo.

This is what I feel they are hoping/trying to do. Move Collins to RT, Whit at LT. Pray to god Jason Smith/Eugene Monroe is there at 6. If they are, move Whit back to G. Or they could go Collins at LT (his college position), both Collins and Whitworth were LTs in college, so its probably not as desperate as it looks.

They have enough pick this year. Trading up to #4 would probably get them one of the 2 tackles and according to the trade chart would cost them a 1st and 3rd or a 1st, compensatory 3rd, and a 4th. They could do it but then again, it's the Bengals.

compensatory can't be traded

I think Collins is the real deal. Looked good against some good rushers. I liked his hustle on run plays too. I'd think he's definitely at one of the tackle spots. Whit actually played LT pretty good, but it'd be nice to be able to leave him at LG so they're not switching too much around. And we don't really know that Levi is a has been yet. I hope that Curry slips like people are saying he might, that would make the choice easy.

It wouldnt shock me too much if Curry slipped after watching Derrick Johnson fall to 15 couple years ago.
