Bengals QB pickup will be....? (1 Viewer)

Bengals have said on a number of occasions that they're going to start FA announcing they've signed a veteran backup QB. Who will it be?

But one article here

http://www.bengals.com/news/news.asp?story_id=5126

Veteran backups Tommy Maddox and Jay Fiedler have been available, but their agents said Friday the Bengals haven’t called. That means they could be waiting for the younger guys to become free Saturday, such as the Giants’ Tim Hasselbeck, the Cardinals’ Josh McCown, and the Dolphins’ Sage Rosenfels.
who else?Kitna is scheduled to make his rounds visitting other teams so it's NOT him.

I beleive it will be Rosenfels. That gives them 4 in camp not counting Kitna. Will Palmer be ready for start of next season????

Bengals | Team has one talk with Maddox's agent

Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals are believed to have had one conversation with representatives for free agent QB Tommy Maddox (Steelers).

I really don't think it matters who the backup will be, since Carson's recovery has been going well and on-schedule. I think he'll be ready for opening day.

I think there's a decent chance you're right, and I surely hope you are. But even if Carson does play week 1, I would hardly say that I "don't think it matters who the backup will be." The playoff game pretty much demonstrated that it does matter, very much. Scary as it is to contemplate, I think, assuming they don't re-sign Kitna, that Maddox is probably the best fit of the guys they likely have a shot at (decent deep arm, understands his role as a backup). That said, Rosenfels seems to be getting the "buzz" right now. Maybe they feel the need to go cheap there so as to re-up the O-linemen...

Maddox? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Like I said--scary. :o

But really, who else is out there that (a) might sign as a backup and (b) can get the ball downfield as well as they need to? We saw what happened against Pittsburgh when the defense didn't need to respect the deep ball any more.

But Maddox? I guess Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite is out of the price range.

Yeah, I hope to never see Maddox in stripes.

This seems like a perfect landing spot for Frerotte imo. He's solid enough to fill in at the start of the season but has to realize his days as a starter have passed.

I think McCown wants a chance to win a starting spot and he won't have the chance in CIN. McCown would be much better served taking less $ in a one year contract and go to a place like CHI where he could win the starting job for several years if he earned it.

Maddox may have had a decent arm in the past, but ever since he got hurt the man has had a noodle for an arm. One of the reasons he played so horrible the last couple of years was his lack of velocity on the ball.
