Bengals WR Henry in trouble again? (1 Viewer)

Yes, this must be new. Batavia/Clermont county are miles away from Covington, KY, clear on the other side of the Greater Cincinnati area.

No surprises here. You can take the kid off the street but you can't take the street out of the kid. Glad I raise my kids.......

I predict that Marv Lewis will be arrested for aggravated assault after Henry shows up for the next team practice.

good thought but when's the last time you heard an NFL player benched for a DUI or DWI?

Henry has more than that on his short resume so far. Since December, he has:1) Been arrested for speeding and possession of marijuana

2) Been arrested for pulling a gun on a group of people in Florida (and luckily not shot by the police)

3) Been arrested for a DUI.

The clock is ticking on him. He sounds like a Grade A Azzwhole and the team may decide to stop putting up with the PR headaches if/when he behavior becomes too much of a distraction.

Maybe he and Nicholson could room together?

Not a homebody, this kid. He's been a busy boy.

I don't disagree with you I just think it's a bit of a sad fact in the NFL world

Yes, NFL players get in trouble and yes that is a sad fact, but for a guy to do three things in 6 months is ridiculous. That's three ARRESTS. Not he was questioned and released, he was in the pokey, plus the Nicholson stuff. Great character the team has brought with Marvin on board.

I guess that's one of the many things he's brought from Baltimore?

I'm very interested to see if Marvin makes a statement by cutting Henry. There has been a decent amount of talk about character issues here in Cincy and the move wouldn't shock me. Henry has also been slow to heal from his knee injury as well. As a Bengals fan I hate to see him go from a production standpoint, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Per Len Pasquarelli - ESPN.com

Sgt. Kevin Long of the Ohio State Patrol said Henry was stopped on Interstate 275, on the east side of Cincinnati, at 1:18 a.m., after being clocked driving 82 mph in a 65 mph zone. Because officers detected the odor of alcohol, a field sobriety test was conducted, and Henry was subsequently transported to the Milford, Ohio police station.Long said that Henry registered a .092 reading on the blood-alcohol test. The legal limit in Ohio is .08.

As I recell he also had a sexual assault charge and feeding alcohol to minors charge dropped when he and his buddies had a few ladies in a KY hotel room.

As a lifelong Bengals fan, cut him already. Some people don't deserve 40 chances. This guy has it all handed to him and he can't behave well enough to enjoy a life of no worries.

Good riddens already.

On second thought, maybe we can trade him to the Raiders. ;)

I knew he was a bit of a problem child entering the league, but it boggles that mind that someone can be this stupid. The Bengals should just cut him before he infects any of their other young players.

No. He's done. The only thing left to talk about with this loser is where he goes from here.

Choices are:

1. 6 feet under.

2. The nearest state penitentiary.

There are no other options. What a total LOSER.

First 2, then 1. I see an ESPN Behind the Lines feature on him in about 5 years. Unfortunately, when the Bengals cut him someone will pick him up to give him another chance to blow.

I guess if they cut Henry, the BEngals could be subject to a grievance? Henry could always hide behind the players union and say he has a problem? What a country...

Henry arrested again

By GEOFF HOBSON

June 4, 2006

2:45 p.m.

Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry continued to court a NFL suspension this season with his third arrest in six months this weekend when he was charged with operating under the influence on Interstate 275 in suburban Cincinnati.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Henry registered a .092 on a breathalyzer after he was pulled over for driving 82 miles per hour in a 65 speed zone in Union Township, about 20 miles east of Cincinnati.

NFL policy says any player who admits or is convicted of a second crime will be suspended. And, even though it is Henry’s first alcohol-related offense, NFL policy states the commissioner can suspend a player (if he cops a plea or is convicted) if there has been prior drug misconduct.

Near the end of last season, when his six touchdown catches led all rookie receivers, Henry was arrested Dec. 15 for possession of marijuana and ended up pleading to a $250 fine. After waving a Lugar at a crowd of people in late January, he was charged with three felonies that have been dropped to one, illegal possession of a firearm.

The arrest leaves the Bengals coping with the character issue after a week rookie linebacker A.J. Nicholson was arrested for breaking into the house of a former college teammate and Henry’s felony gun trial in Florida was pushed back to Aug. 21.

Sgt. Kevin Long, an assistant commander of the Batavia Highway Post, said the arresting officer smelled “an odor of alcohol,” on Henry when he was stopped at 1:18 a.m. Saturday. After being administered a field sobriety test, Henry agreed to a breathalyzer that said he was over the .08 state limit.

“He was courteous and cooperative during the entire contact,” Long said.

Henry was released and given a June 9 court date, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in Clermont County Municipal Court. He’s facing a first-degree misdemeanor for OVI and a misdemeanor for speeding.

After his Florida trial was pushed back, it looked like Henry wouldn’t be facing a NFL suspension this season for a second offense.

Under guidelines in the collective bargaining agreement, the Bengals can cut a player only because of skill reasons. But if they decided to release Henry after three arrests, would they be faced with a grievance and would they lose it? If they cut Henry, they would absorb a $173,000 hit on this year’s salary cap. Since it’s after June 1, they would be charged only this year’s bonus pro-ration. Next year, they would have about $519,000 in dead money.

The Bengals won’t comment on the Henry case until it is resolved legally.

Henry has yet to practice this spring since suffering what head coach Marvin Lewis called a knee sprain on the same play quarterback Carson Palmer ripped up his knee in the Wild Card Game against the Steelers.

At least some of the leading candidates for Henry's No. 3 receiver job (if it's available) are second-year man Tab Perry, Packers free-agent pickup Antonio Chatman, and Kelley Washington.

Henry, or no Henry, I'm keeping my eye on the 'other' Perry when the Bengals don pads in July:

Tab: All 6'2" 229lbs 4.48/40 of him...

From 2005 Ourlad's:

Three year starter. Academically ineligible in '03. Big target who will go over the middle. Athletic receiver who runs strong after the catch and breaks tackles. A threat as a runner. A contributor on the next level if he stays focused and consistent. Will catch the ball over the middle. Soft hands. Ran a 4.48 at 229lbs on a grass-type surface. Good agility and body control. Can improve sharpness in cuts. Flashes burst and turns speed to power after catch. Quick first step movement off ball. Fight through jam. Uses body to sheild off defender to make the catch. Deceptive speed to run deep. Can make over the shoulder catch and track the ball in the air. Will be a match up nightmare in the slot. Was careless at times in the E/W Shrine game, and dropped some easy ones. Has the feet to get his body in position to catch the ball. Creates separation with his height, weight and speed ratio. Third or 4th round value that could be a steal.

From 2006 Ourlad's pre-draft Team page:

...Tab Perry earned his keep by returning kickoffs. Perry is a big receiver with deceptive speed...Rookie Chris Henry contributed to the units success, but is in hot water...again...Kelley Washington is struggling to get on the field...

Latest Blogger on Perry

"A staple in the offseason program, Perry is developing a reputation for being one of the hardest working players on the team. His future looks bright."

Now, I'm not predicting he leapfrogs Chad or Housh, but he's a completely different weapon than Chatman, and a much less expensive option than either Henry or Washington. I like his chances of making an impact splitting slot reps with Chatman based on down/distance situations, and being the most attractive option to step in should either CJ or Housh succumb to injury...

Or Antonio Chatman

Sssshhh... ;) While the ultra-talented Henry has been in the news all offseason for all the wrong reasons, this kid is showing that he wants to take every advantage of his opportunity. Could be a decent option in a dynasty league as a buy low candidate.

Would anyone hesitate in cutting Henry from their dynasty roster at this point? I still have him, but am debating on what to do with him.

Unfortunately, there is no pat answer at this point. He holds very very very little value right now, but with his talent, there is still the potential that he will 'get it' and then become a top notch WR. Really you have to look at your roster size, ancillary roster slots, other league specific rules, and judge if those resources might be put to better use. In my league for example, there are 12 teams with 23 man rosters plus 3 man developmental squads. At this point you may say to keep him, because there isn't a lot of talent out there at the 313th position. However, we also use contract credits to create a 'soft salary cap', so the owner would have to expend some of his limited pool of credits to retain Henry. Because he probably isn't worth the credit expenditure, the owner will most likely cut him loose.

Henry seems to be the front runner to take over for Michael Irvin when his playing days are over. One of the few guys with a fatter resume (rap sheet) than Irvin.

I can keep him on my taxi squad for one more year. I plan on hanging on to him for at least that year and see what happens. He has a lot of talent besides getting into trouble.

On the whole I think he still has some value. There is a great chance he will be another Clarett/Rogers/Onterrio, but there is also a possibility that he will turn it around like K Rob and W Green seem to have.I have him in two leagues and I will consider dropping him, but he is not totally worthless.

It's not that the guy blew a .092, or even an .080000001. It's that he was driving 80+ after drinking (and don't kid yourself, .092 IS impaired) and could've killed people. It's also that he's been in trouble several times in a very short amount of time, has to know (if he has a frigging brain in his head) that he's on a short leash, and with all his damn money could have called a cab.

Anybody defending this idiot's actions as no big deal because it was 'only 0.92' needs to look at a bigger picture.

Says the guy with the avatar of a cat drinking a beer. :banned: I gotta agree with what you said though, look at the big picture.
