Benny Mardones...meet Chris Hansen (1 Viewer)

Tom Servo

Nittany Beavers
She's just sixteen years old
Leave her alone, they say,
Separated by fools
Who don't know what love is yet
But I want you to know
If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen - ever seen
Just to add to the creep factor:

Mardones was 33 years old when the song became a hit for the first time

So, what are the odds this song gets written today? And if he does, will Chris Hansen visit him?

Man I forgot how creepy that song really was. Fuuny @@#@ with the Chris Hansen reference...Chris: Benny can you put your clothes back on...Benny: I was just here to talk to her s be her friend.....every one of those stings went virtually the same way.

Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl
You're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a woman
You've kept the secret of your youth
You led me to believe
You're old enough to give me Love
And now it hurts to know the truth, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl
You're much too young, girl
Beneath your perfume and make-up
You're just a baby in disguise
And though you know
That it is wrong to be alone with me
That come on look is in your eyes, oh
Young girl, get out of my mind
My love for you is way out of line
Better run, girl
You're much too young, girl
So hurry home to your mama
I'm sure she wonders where you are
Get out of here before I have the time

Young girl, get out of my mindMy love for you is way out of line

Better run, girl

You're much too young, girl
With all the charms of a womanYou've kept the secret of your youth

Young girl, get out of my mindMy love for you is way out of line

Better run, girl

So hurry home to your mamaI'm sure she wonders where you are

Get out of here before I have the time
yikes

This was a song I and my first wife listened to. She was my little sisters best friend. We were children together, when I went into the service I missed her and on leave she got pregnant. She was 17 and I was 19; today I would go to jail in the old days our parents told us we would get married. We now have different lives, I still love her. And we have a wonderful son who is older now but because of the old ideals has not a huge trauma. He is the best dad a little girl could want!!!!!

Actually if you read the Puckett lyrics she lied about her age, he's found out and he's ending the relationship before it goes too far. Or further perhaps.

As for Mardones. That song was hugely popular with the girls of the time.

Sounds like he's talking himself out of statutory rape even after he finds out

ETA: many other songs of his have a similar theme. There's one about a girl becoming a woman after banging him.

Well isn't that said in a lot of literature as well? The previously virginal girl is now a woman after sex?

Oh and a more recent example for us to discuss would be Rod Stewart's Tonights the Night.

I guess. Just seems he's worked up a nice "theme".

The song is creepy.

Don't say a word my virgin child

Just let your inhibitions run wild

The secret is about to unfold

Upstairs before the nights too old

Rod was 31 when that was released

Fair enough

Isn't Don't Stand so Close to Me the pinnacle of this? Love the quote from Sting:

I'd done teaching practice at secondary schools and been through the business of having 15-year-old girls fancying me - and me really fancying them! How I kept my hands off them I don't know

I think you guys and many others forget or weren't aware that the late 70s and early 80s was a period of time where age of consent, whether adults should be allowed to have sex with minors/children and whether children possess a sort of sexual free agency were pretty big topics/issues.

NAMBLA was founded in 1978 and there was an entire wing (though on the fringe and moreso out on an island unto themselves now) within the homosexual rights movement where this issue was advocated/debated.

You're only 16, but you're my teenage queen. Lots of creepy old songs(16 Candles is great despite it). It's quite a big shift society has made in the acceptable ages for relationships.
