Really have to start questioning the integrity of the U.T. football program.
I'm an A&M Grad. Few people care less about University of Texas than I do. But Cedric Benson being an idiot has nothing to do with the integrity of their football program. Every school has players like this.J
just on a side note, a ridiculous number of UT players have gotten in trouble with the law here in Austin, including an embarassing stretch of 6 from June-Sept last year:Link

Benson was also in trouble with the law twice while he was here. Then there's the unintentionally hilarious Ramonce Taylor story, when he called police to report his truck had been broken into even though he had a backpack full of dope in it.

I don't want to idly speculate, but from the outside, it doesn't seem like UT puts a premium on character in their recruiting, or has a team culture that puts an emphasis on character.

While it's true that Texas had a run with some guys getting into trouble, every one of those guys was dealt with severely, including Ramonce, who had NFL early round talent. He was booted from the team. There are many high-profile programs that would have found a way to, shall we say, accommodate the "idiosyncracies" of those guys' personalities.

The guy has been gone from UT for 3 years. This has absolutely nothing to do with UT. This is just the case of an idiot who thinks he is above the law because he can play ball although even that is questionable at this point.

Ok so given the new arrest, and the possible suspension, who do you think that Chicago targets as a running back and is it likely that they try and pick up one of the current free agents. Alexander, Henry, and Kevin Jones are all available ro do they trade for one?

Cedris Benson, you have alienated your teammates, failed to even semi live up to expectations, gotten a BWI, what are you going to do next?

Me gonna get drunk and drive, then get me dumb butt fired. But its not my fault, I'm really only a rookie.

It's just so unbelievable to me that a guy would be out drinking AND DRIVING at 3 AM, within a few weeks after the whole boating incident. How do people like Benson think like this? Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid!!!
Because he's young, rich and has an alcohol problem. When you put those things together, thinking clearly isn't going to be at the top of the list.Getting a DUI is bad but not the end of the world. If the guy truly wants to change things around, he could do it. He didn't kill anyone, he didn't do a hit and run like other Rb's in the league but he has a drinking problem.
First of all, Benson's wunderlic score shows that he actually is mentally challenged. The Bears knew they were getting someone with rocks in his head. Its just the way he was born. I dont blame him for that. One DUI doesnt affect a player's playing status too much. Two in a month could have an impact on any player. Two in a month plus locker room problems plus not liveing up to his contract is a lot to overcome. At this point, its probably best for both him and the Bears to part ways. Changeing teams should at least put the locker room problems and high expectations behind him. Which could be things contributing to his alcaholism.
His wonderlic score and his problem drinking don't have any correlation. There are lawyers, doctors, accounts etc..., some of the smartest people who struggle with alcohol abuse. On another note, some people who aren't as educated have some of the greatest work ethics and are trustworthy people. The guy has an alcohol problem and if you've ever known someone or have had a substance abuse problem yourself, you'd know that is shows no prejudice, it can effect everyone. As far as Benson on the Bears, if they want to part ways, that's up to them. What I'm saying is this guy can still come back from this. He's an above average running back and if he deals with this the right way, he can get past it. I have no idea how he is going to handle this, hopefully someone close to him helps him realize that this needs to be dealth with before he does something in that condition that he's going to regret for the rest of his life.

I can't see why the Bears wouldn't look at all the available free agents; unless they're really sure Forte will be the man and I don't see how they could have the feeling yet about him one way or another.
Hi Jason,I'm sure they'll look at all the guys out there. I'd be shocked if this morning there wasn't a call into Chicago from agents for Henry, Jones, Alexander etc. Or more accurately, it was probably a follow up call after the call they made after the boat trouble. I just have a goofy good feeling about Forte. Totally can't back it up other than gut feel. I just like the kid.J
I agree that all those agents made calls to Chicago. However, I would be quite shocked the Bears would bring in Henry as he is far from a poster child. If they are brining someone in, they will bring in someone who they don't to worry about off field situations. Happens once, shame on player...but twice, shame on the organization. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alexander or Jordan land in Chicago.

This has to be it. Even if Benson were an on-field success it would be hard for them to keep him and maintain control of their locker room. The fact that he sucks as a starter makes it all the more easy, and the notable FAs floating around seal the deal. I expect him to be cut by Wednesday or Thursday. Forte is the starter for sure now.
