Bermuda anyone? (1 Viewer)

Thinking about doing an extended weekend in Bermuda with the wife this summer (Early August).

Anyone have any good recommendations for things to do, restaurants, etc.?

I'm highly considering going the AirBnB route for accomodations.

We ate at the Swizzle Inn

It was good.

We went on some tour of caves

Didnt do much else there. It was colder than we though it would be

Since this will be August the temps should be around 85 degrees.
Think about the fact that Bermuda is in line with the Carolinas, sitting in the middle of the Gulf Stream for nice warmth.

One of the highest ratios of golf courses PSM in the world.

I'm going to need you to watch my dog while I'm gone.

I've been to Bermuda twice. Love it there... August is going to be a really busy time for cruisers, I think. So expect a ton of tourists.

A quick brain dump:

Go see Ashley @ Hidden Gems of Bermuda. I learned more on the tour with her that day than I did the entire time I've spent on the island. She's a lot of fun and will go out of her way to make sure you're enjoying yourself. We had our camera battery die on us halfway through the tour, so she called her dad and had him meet us on the next stop so we can borrow his DSLR.

The museum is cool, but it'll probably be mobbed with cruisers. Some good shops in the Dockyard, but they'll be mobbed too.

The Lobster Pot in Hamilton was my favorite place to eat.

There are some jet ski tours that will take you out to the tip of the Bermuda Triangle. Stop halfway out, swim in a cove for a bit, and come back.

Lots of good snorkeling tours at the Dockyard. The power snorkel tour was fun.

Hamilton is nothing special - just another city/concrete jungle.

Horseshoe Bay Beach is a popular spot for the pink sand. If you go, you can avoid the crowds by walking down the shoreline and go thru the first rock wall. Most people are too lazy to walk 100yds past the entrance, so you'll have most of that beach to yourself.

I ran about 2/3 of the Bermuda Railway Trail and loved it. Its a fun/free way to see a lot of the island.

Some nice restaurants at the Fairmont Southampton

As did we. We stayed nearby at Grotto Bay Beach Resort which had one of those caves on the property which you could swim in. Was pretty cool.

Unfortunately don't remember names of other restaurants but did have some good sushi at a very cool spot on the beach. That's all I got.

One of the best parts of the whole thing is how close it was to NYC. Had a real early flight and even with it being an hour ahead, we were on the beach by like 10am.

One thing about the museum... Its at an old fort where you can go check out the old cannons and whatnot. My wife and I are walking thru and see dog crap all over the place. WTF? So we're looking out at the ocean view and movement catches my eye. I look to my right and see a herd of sheep. Someone lives up there with what I'm assuming is some sort of sheep farm. One of the most unexpected/bizarre things I'd ever seen.
