Rams | Faulk to be placed on IR

Tue, 11 Jul 2006 11:00:18 -0700

Bernie Miklasz, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports the St. Louis Rams will be placing RB Marshall Faulk (knee) on the Injured Reserve, likely the end of Faulk's career.

RIP

This guy was the King of Fantasy Football for 5 years running.
I think I read where he is on the IR instead of retiring because he:a. Hopes to come back next year

b. Wants to be paid until he knows for sure

If not, he would just retire.

Rotoworld has this:

According to his agent, the status of Marshall Faulk's future probably will be determined in the next week to 10 days."He's going to be evaluated again, and that's when the decision will be made," Rocky Arceneaux said Monday. If Faulk's knee doesn't respond, retirement is a possibility, but Faulk also has talked about doing television work for a year then trying to come back in 2007. He was a great player and from the various stories I've seen on him over the years he seems like a great person as both a teammate and in the community. He had a great hall of fame career.

Didn't Terell Davis do the same?

He'll be back next year ;)

Add: Bennett trade now imminent?

He had a hell of a ride between his freshman year at SDSU in 1991 until around 2 years ago. There have been few players who have been more exciting to watch play. Good luck to him.

anyone have a link to this? I'm not finding this actually being reported anywhere.
No link, but:Rams | Faulk to be placed on IR Published

Bernie writes for the Post Dispatch whose website is STLToday.com. There is mention of it on that site. He also has a show on 550 KTRS. My thinking is that someone heard him mention this today.

:goodposting: I have seen nothing "official" on this yet. Although I do not doubt that it is coming. I saw where CBS Sportsline is reporting it as well.ETA: Bernie also said that Faulk would show up to camp, and not be put on IR until after the appropriate waiting time.

ANd here it starts:Michael Bennett, RB NO

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the Rams are expected to place Marshall Faulk (knees) on the injured reserve, which means the end of Faulk's pro football career. Once the best back in fantasy football, Faulk's knees have been a real problem in recent seasons.

Analysis: The Post-Dispatch also reports that the Rams will acquire Michael Bennett from New Orleans at some point before camp to serve as the No. 2 back behind Steven Jackson. Bennett would be a nice late-round option as insurance for owners who land Jackson

Awesome player, but a good person? Not from what I know. I live in St. Louis and used to know someone who worked in the doctor's office where Faulk's g/f used to come for checkups every time he beat her up. I also used to work with a gal who slept with him twice (she is a party girl) and from the few things she mentioned to me, I can safely say he is not a good guy. Despite all of that, he will go down as one of the best RB's the NFL has ever seen.

fair enough, I was going by the United Way feel good stories......

This was in the paper recently in a BM column here in St. Louis. Reportedly he is going to go on the IR and go work with #### Vermiel on the NFL network as an analyst and then try to make a come back next year. Or at least leave his options open for next year.

My thinking is that he will live the good life as an analyst and just love life and then officially retire next year....

i can not comment on his current state of mind, but back in the day, I sat next to a wide eyed sophmore at SDSU, who was the biggest thing to hit SD, and the boy was nothing but an outstanding citizen. the teacher actually pointed him out on the first day of class, calling him a "celebrity" and he handled it well. when i asked him what he was going to do with all the cash in a few years, not one mention of buying bling and b*t*ches, but rather of mature aspirations for himself and his loved ones.quit the 3rd party rumor mill. sounds to me like your "party girl" is a respected source of information in your eyes. that tells me everything i need to know about your character and decision making ability.

As a Rams fan it's a sad day to see my favorite NFL player of all time probably hanging up the jock strap. He has been the best FF player in my opinion since I started back in 97. Marshall you will be missed and for all these people saying they know bad stories about the guy I hope you know these to be true. It's always nice to act like a big shot behind someone's back. I've met Marshall acouple of time, not on a name to name basis, but just in crowds and have talked to him and he is a very nice person with alot of charity work under his name as well. Marshall I salute you and look forward to seeing you on the NFL Network and in the Hall of Fame.

i'm a rams fan, too... the only thing worse than faulk retiring would be to hang on too long, & suffer further punsihment to his probably already destroyed knees & not be able to walk when he is 50...

its hard to see what more he could do to add to his already brilliant & luminous legacy... he is guaranteed HOFer, & probable first ballot... he changed the game, & in his prime, was the best receiving RB the league had ever seen... good enough athlete he probably could have been a pro bowl WR if needed...

how many WRs were good enough athletes they could have been pro bowl RBs?
