Best 5 NFL teams as of week 16. (1 Viewer)

Most teams seemed a bit out of whack this weekend, but here's how I see it...

5. Atlanta - Defense good. Offense improving

4. Philadelphia - Hmmm. Interesting. TO who? Nice job trading for Stallworth.

3. Chicago - Their offense is still :meh:, but good lord that defense. And now special teams too!

2. Baltimore - Chicago, with a little less defense (not much) and a lot more offense.

1. Pittsburgh - They won a game, handily, while starting Charlie Batch. Charlie Batch, folks.

These were tough to rank.

Hi Andy,

I agree with your 5 teams, but I would be real careful with any proclamations about Donte Stallworth. He has shown brilliance over his 6 year career, only it has always come in spurts!

Maybe he somehow had a real life "ah ha" experience over the last month and he now sees the light. Maybe this trade has in fact shocked him into shape.

... I would want to see several more games to get on his BUS again.

I'd have to say best performance was Baltimore, on the road against TB (last years #1 NFL defense)...27-0. Close 2nd Atlanta beating up on Carolina. Once again Carolina might be overhyped and proved once again if you take Steve Smith out of the game (whether double team or he is missing due to injury), they are nothing.

Jacksonville shutting up all of the Dallas touters was probably my #3 choice.

As far as Chicago goes, you'll see alot of teams beating GB by 20+ points this season.

Seattle squeaking by Detroit? Pathetic.

Just 1 week but the AFC looks far superior to the NFC.

Chicago was the first team that came to my mind. I think Jacksonville might deserve to be in there somewhere. The Rams also looked pretty good. Defense was good. Offense was moving the ball, just couldn't get it in the end zone. That should come soon enough considering Holt & Bruce missed significant parts of the pre-season.Not sold on Philly or Atlanta yet.

My top 5 right now:

1. Balt, that was a pasting they put on TB.

2. Atl, same goes for Atl only insert Car.

3. Pitt, won "ugly" but did it with a back up QB.

4. Jack, beat a very good Dal team. Funny how I get the impression that had Dal won, they would be on nearly everyones list, yet Jack does win and will probably only be on mine.

5. Indy/Cinci/Philly/Chi, I really just can't seperate these 4 right now... deal with it. :D

I give him a pass since he was playing for Haslett.

I don't think Dallas is a very good team.I almost put Indy and NYG on the list. But Indy couldn't stop the run, nor could they run themselves. And the Giants...well the Giants lost.

Did you watch the bears game? Their offense looked better than it has in over 2 decades, which may be meh by some standards but for the Bears it looked great. I've always said that all you need in Chicago is a great defense and an above-average offense. I think that offense rates as above average. How they looked week 11. Pitt (D looked great and did it without Roeth)2. Chiacgo (a shut out and scored in the 20s vs. biggest rival, chalk up a division win)3. Philly (McNabb is back and T-who? Stallworth looks to be a perfect fit, McNabb looks great)4. Ravens (shut out no. 2 and this was against a playoff team from last year. O could have looked better and McNair had a subpar game. Not looking quite as balanced as the bears but conceivably no. 3 based on that game)5. Jags (beat the Boys without Marcus Stroud to clog the run, mediocre receiving game)

 Eagles are for real. I don't get why everyone expects a downward trend when just 2 years ago they were studly with a WORSE recieving group than now. doesn't make sense. I think Stallworth caught some people by surprise and really, who couldn't beat the Texans like he did?Their defense was just pretty sick after the beginning for the Texans until they settled in. They have some great young players and their offense is just getting over TO. Expect things to get better and better just as it did in the texans game. These guys are going to the NFC championship....and I won't even predict after that.

ps: Yes. I'm a homer. But forrrreal. They gonna be gooood.

Top 4 in no particular order...

Steelers

Bengals

Ravens (AFC North :excited: )

Jaguars

#5 is the top NFC team, not sure who that is right now...

Falcons

Bears

Eagles

I like:

1)Steelers - hard not to pick #1 after a great game against a good Miami team.

2)Ravens - I had a feeling they would be good in the pre-season & Sunday confirms it. Upgrade at QB, healthy Heap & Jamal, Mason & Clayton at WR, a good O-line and the return of a great defense = high quality football.

3)Jaguars - that defense is stout and their offense is good enough.

4)Colts - still too good on both sides of the ball and the Giants are no cupcake.

5)Falcons - had to include at least one NFC team and they looked the best against a good team in their division.

Not far behind are Bengals(AFC north is brutal), Bears & Rams

In addition, some teams I wouldn't write off yet after their loss are: Broncos, Giants, Dolphins & Cowboys. They will all be in the hunt at the end of the season IMO.

EDIT: Forgot about Philly...put them in the "not far behind" group (killing Houston wasn't that impressive, but they did look real good)

I don't think Dallas is a very good team.
All due respect, I think you are in the minority here. A very small minority too. Not that I disagree...
I'm in it too, they're not a playoff team. Now if Parcells works his magic, maybe they make a push. Owens will be screaming by week 3, and Romo may be starting by week 5. Bledsoe is that bad.My 5:1-Pittsburgh - defending champs win without Ben2-Baltimore - smashmouth defense is still here, dismantled a predicted good NFC team3-Cincy - tough road win, won it convincingly, showing D to go with the O.4-Philly - nice road win against bad team, handled easliy5-Chicago - totally destroyed division rival on road, but Green Bay is a real bad team. ...New England, Indy, Atlanta.

Bad O-Line and suspect pass defense (Roy Williams is better at run support than pass d) makes them approach mediocre. Plus, I can't stand Drew Bledsoe.
Agreed. I think they need another year to settle the QB situation (AKA give Romo time to gel with the offense) and handle a few issues on the OL.

Well I was trying to figure out who I thought was going to beat the stillers - and no one really jumps to mind. All the teams that I thought were 'better' last year seem to have gone backwards more than Pitt has. We finally have some shut down corners and the loss of Hope and Kimo aren't gonna be too bad. It still depends on how well FWP can hold up.

Seriously, the F***ing Bears played the Packers. You thought the Chicago O was superior? The Ravens played against TB's D. The Packers have the worst offensive line in football. You'll notice I didn't say the NFL, I said FOOTBALL. Put the Ravens against Chicago Sunday and I'd float the bears 5 and still take Baltimore for a G. Play an NFL team, then hype your favorite team.

The Bears offense is good enough, mainly due to the stength of their offensive line(this is the unit that protected the debacle known as Orton, Kyle), to put a touchdown or two on the board against any team in the league. Of course a game versus the Ravens would probably result in an 10-7 affair, but what are you getting at? It's kind of funny that the Ravens dominate a team with Chrissy Simms at QB and a sub-par o-line and they are legiit, while the Bears shutout of Favre is a fluke. IMO, the Bears have the talent to win it all, along with 6 or 7 other teams in the NFL. Is Grossman good enough to take them to promised land? Who knows, but I do know that I witnessed complete domination in all aspects of the game on Sunday, and that must be respected. How many other 10+ win teams in the league return all 22 starters? I guess the team will get the respect when/if they defeat the Seahawks in week 4.

The best three teams in the NFL are in the AFC North: Bengals, Ravens, Steelers.

1) Bengals - Too much depth on both sides of the ball

2) Steelers - Beat a good Dolphins team without Big Ben

3) Ravens - McNair makes this team very dangerous

4) Colts - No running game but still a top 5 team. Winning @ Giants is impressive

5) Falcons - Big road win and will be a contender if Vick does not get too reckless

All this love for the Bears is a joke. My high school could beat the Packers.

The Eagles beat the Texans. Not really a litmus test.

That's just the way we like it.

1. Indianapolis

2. Chicago

3. San Diego

4. Atlanta

5. NYG

Cincinnati could easily replace the Giants.

San Diego's defense is going to carry them far, especially in a suddenly (and surprisingly) weak AFC West. How does Cromartie look? Even playing?

Good Post, but I would place the Bears above the Colts just on defense alone. I really dont think the Colts have a good defense.

I think you're right. Swap Chicago and Indy.If the Bears can play some offense they're going to be tough to beat.

Does San Diego belong on this list over other 2-0 teams given who they've played?

Good question. The other 2-0 teams are:New EnglandBaltimoreCincinattiMinnesotaNew OrleansSeattleI'd say they look better than Minnesota, New Orleans, and Seattle at the moment. The other three could fit somewhere in the 3-5 spots ahead of San Diego.

Sorry dude. This time, my money would overwhelmingly be on Atlanta.
:D We're relying on a lot of intangibles, no doubt. IMHO, the return to the Dome is good for a big boost.Atlanta doesn't usually throttle the Saints -- the only big win over us since 1999 was the road game last year. Otherwise, it's either a nip-tuck contest or a comfortable Saints win. I know the past is past, but it's hard for me to credit the Falcons with being an elite team that the Saints can't match up with. Maybe because it's a pretty good rivalry, dunno.

Man, Steelers haven't played yet and they are already out of your top 5?
Whoops.Guess I better hope they lose tonight. Which is a probability.
Probability? In this day and age, the phrase Any Given Sunday applies. But I doubt the Steelers lose.
Then bump the Giants off the list and put them at #2.
I can live with that. It would be tough for PIT to go into IND 2 years in a row and beat them in the playoffs (assuming it gets to that point). IND is #1 unless they lose home field advantage in the AFC.

Now I am really confused. You add PIT and that makes IND fall down to your #3 spot?

I reversed Indy and Chicago after a brief discussion (one post) with Gargoylz made me double think the Indy defense. I then swapped Chicago and Indy. When you pointed out I'd forgotten about Pitt, I moved them in between the two.

Updated:1. Chi, OK, I'm becoming convinced that this team now has an O. That is scary as hell.2. Pitt/Jack Winner.3. Balt4. Atl5. Cinci
