Best Acquisition from the off season not from the draft... (1 Viewer)

What organization has made the most clutch move through signing and or trading for a player not taken in the 2006 draft. So R. Bush does not fit the criteria as he was taken in the draft this season.

There have been some very good performance from players switching teams this year. Who has been the best acquisition and why?

My list:

1) D. Brees: Showing at the young age of 27 that he is a leader and the last 2 years with the Chargers were not fluke. What a great move by the Saints getting this guy to be the QB of their future.

2) J. Walker: proving that he is an elite WR and will be for many more years to come. He has been the biggest reason the Broncos won the last 2 games. Denver got a great deal here only losing a 2nd round pick.

Biggest Dud:

1) K. Collins: what an absolutely terrible move by the Titans. Very laughable.

2) A. Shell and Walsh: these guys could easily be 1 but not really players.

What do you guys say?

How about a draft day trade? Hollis Thomas has turned a terrible run D into a formidible group.

If he can get healthy, John Abraham could be the answer to this question by year's end. Sure looked like a great pickup for Atlanta in Week 1.

Atlanta reeling in Abraham would be a no brainer here....except for the fact that Abraham is out injured and aprrently this is a normal status for him.

Julian Peterson has added new dimensions to an already dangerous Seahawks D.

Chester Taylor is a legit NFL feature back and has given the Vikings a true workhorse (also came somewhat cheap).

donte stallworth for PHI & will witherspoon for STL pretty big acquisitions on offense & defense, respectively...

i would go with brees on offense, but stay with witherspoon over abraham... spoon has already made a big difference for the team, & played a large role in both rams victories...

 Your man crush on Volek is just getting silly.

Collins played fine last week. Hes among, but not solely, the reason the Titans are 0-3

Can we add Brian Griese to the list?

I know he hasn't taken a single snap this year, but he makes watching Bear games much easier on the fans because we aren't worrying about the thought of Orton, Krentzel or Hutchingson QBing the team every time an opposing player hits Rex.

Wether I think Volek should be starting with the Titans right now has no bearing on my decision to put Collins as the biggest dud move by an organization. The Titans signed him and gave him the starting role a week before the season started. If they give him a couple of months and get him reps working with the team etc. then maybe it is not so bad but what they did was terrible. I clearly see this as being the stupidest move in the off season by any organization.

Considering what Branch's deal, Walker was a steal.

With the way his contract is structured, it doesn't appear he is currently the QB of the future for the Saints. He would be due something along the lines of a $10 million roster bonus next year.

i don't think brees will cost $10 mill per year... that is to trigger the rest of his contract... it was structured that way as insurance in case brees looked terrible... nobody knew for sure (maybe not even brees) how shoulder would respond (smart play for NO to protect long term cap health, many teams bungle this)... it is safe to say he is passing the test... i'd be stunned if the saints don't trigger the extension...

the cap does go up in 07, after a sizeable increase already in 06 with labor contract getting done...
