My interest in nay new Death Cab project has flatlined. Oh well.
Why?
I don't know. I just don't find them compelling anymore. I liked Transatlanticism and We Have The Facts and that Photo Booth EP, but the last few, it just seems like a chore to get through.

On DirecTV, there is a College Rock station that is really good, or at least matches my tastes really well. It's part of their premium package, which I'll likely be dropping soon, so I'm looking for other options.

Outside of that, on Spotify, the playlist "Songpickr: 2015 best songs" has 5 or 6 new songs each week which is a great entry point for the best of the week in indie rock type stuff. I'll also check out New Releases on Spotify but that is not comprehensive.
thanks for the Songpickr- didn't know about that. mostly a bit easy-listening indie for me, but lots of good (non loud) stuff and bands

First album of the year to really hit me is Noveller's Fantastic Planet.

Assuming most people haven't heard of her, it's a solo woman who plays these droning all-instrumental somewhat-ambient electric guitar noise-rock songs. A little reminiscent of Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, and Godspeed! I saw her open for St. Vincent last April and was mesmerized. She actually plays the bowed electric guitar a lot, makes some pretty cool effects in the music. Here's a review. Just figured I'd throw it out there because it might be totally missed otherwise. Most of the big review sites seem to have skipped over it, but if it sounds interesting, check it out on Spotify.

Also very looking forward to both Doomtree (haven't listened yet, probably today), and Bjork's new one.

Awolnation has one coming out in March. I've been waiting for awhile - their last was my favorite album in a long time.
Album preorder is up.

Accompanying single is awesome.
He'll sure throw an MFer in an otherwise kid-friendly song.
:gang2:

Pretty much. Though there is a clean version of the album that will come out.
If you ever find a link to this, please post it - I'd be very interested. The whole family likes their songs. I did some surgery awhile back to snip out some MFers from various songs, but it's a hassle.

Young Ejecta - "The Planet" EP is interesting. It sounds like a subdued (dare I say, minimalist) version of something Chvrches might do. I think "Into Your Heart" is a pretty good track and am still trying to decide if I like the rest.

Belle & Sebastian - Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance

“Nobody's Empire” and “Allie” starts it off with what you'd expect from a Belle & Sebastian album. Some guitars, some keys, the ranging upward vocals as the chorus approaches. All with a rhythm you can tap your feet to. But then “The Party Line” starts and you start to wonder why the hell they're trying to channel their inner Daft Punk. If you're going to do dance, do it well and don't be bashful about it. This sounds like they're not sure if they should even be doing what they're doing. And that's hard to get behind as a listener. “Ever Had A Little Faith?” is a nice break from the party but it's too little too late. I don't know if I'm disappointed considering I think we heard the best we're going to hear from B&S years ago. But it's definitely an album I can't recommend.

You write just like a reviewer. Pitchfork alias?

Anyway, kind of agree, but some of the tunes (e.g., "Nobody's Empire" in particular) are very, very good.

Haha... no. It's not a 12-paragraph dissertation. I suppose I just read so many reviews from so many different sites that it kind of comes out. I was once accused of plagiarizing a review of the novel "Rain of Gold" in college because the professor thought that I just took it from a review site.

But yes, "Nobody's Empire" is fantastic (and gave me some hope for the album seeing as it's the first track). It's on my 2015 playlist. But as an album... I think it misses the mark for what it's trying to be.

I feel like belle and Sebastian put out one great album (their first) and everything else has had a couple of good tunes, but mostly meh

I'll raise your 'on my 2015 playlist' with a lyric is the title of mine: 2015 - Loud and rough round the edges

How do I follow yours?

Yeah, Nobody's Empire is unbelievable. My 4 yo has been singing "Now look at you, you're a mother of two" all weekend.

I like Enter Sylvia Plath and Party Line. Unfortunately most of the second half is overly long and forgettable. The song with Dee Dee from the Dum Dum Girls should be great and is not.

I saw that you did that last year too. Damn you and your cleverness. Mine's nine songs strong so far but here it is:

2015

Liking Twerps - Range Anxiety.

Really like the single Sedona by Houndmouth. Looks like their full album will come out in the spring.

ALready enjoying the Catfish and the Bottlemen record more than anything last year. It sounds a bit between Vampire Weekend and Neon Trees but in a good way. People who like rock music (guitars, etc.) should check it out.

Well ####. Looks like the album was acutally released last fall.
California X - Nights in the Dark sounds pretty good so far.
Natalie Press is really good. Soul music with horns and strings. Best of the early year so far.
Thanks for these. All are very good.

Joey Badass' B4.Da.$$ is maybe my most anticipated album of the year. Finally checking it out. Pretty similar to the mixtapes. Not sure if it lived up to my expectations or not.

I have been trying to keep up more with this year's music. Here are more that are on spotify that I have enjoyed so far this year:

Breakfast in Fur - Flyaway Garden

H. Hawkline - In the Pink of Condition

Jape - This Chemical Sea

Liam Hayes - Slurrup

Meat Wave - Brother

Menace Beach - Ratworld

The Phantom Band - Fears Trending

Pond - Man It Feels Like Space Again

Tigercats - Mysteries

Title Fight - Hyperview

Two Gallants - We are Undone

ETA: bolded are are the favs of the bunch

Runners in the Nerved World by the Sidekicks (awful name) is good. I hear (good) Band of Horses.

Anybody listen to the new Father John Misty?

funny- was just listening to the Sidekicks as I go through Pitchfork's Spotify ap... didn't quite hit with me- don't like his voice right now. I'll definitely revisit later- might sit better with me.

I listened to the FJM, but I didn't like his last release, so this sounds like much of the same to me... I'm obviously the wrong person to reply to this.

listening to Liam Hayes', Slurrup, and liking it so far... lo-fi, garagey, one tune sounds like a Lenny Kravitz ditty done by somebody in their basement.

I'll try that one.

Really? Seems innocuous enough

I love the new FJM. It's a concept album mostly about his chick. The melodies and arrangements are fantastic.

He also has a song where he trashes her, which is pretty funny.

Sorry, I'm from Dallas and can't get past this:https://lonestarsportsledger.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/dallassidekicks22.gif

It's a regional thing.

Those bastards

I kinda like this Liam Hayes.. Interesting.. haven't noticed any slurping yet. "nothing Wrong" is cool

I bet you were a Baltimore Blast season ticket holder.

In the same boat. At times I enjoy "Everything in Twos". But I've been having a real tough time getting through the whole album.

When I first saw the track listing I read the track three title as "Jesus Christ Supernails" and thought ohhh myyy. Apparently upon further review it's Supermalls.

I think it's kinda front loaded.

to be honest... I liked the album- slurping happens at the close of the last track, IIRC.

I like random sounds sprinkled into tracks... but the album as a whole seems to have too much of it. or maybe that's his stchick. the songs on their own hold up IMO

yeah this "Channel 44" is mostly just obnoxious

But overall I thought the songs were good
