omgomgomg...

ok- I doubt anybody else will like this, but a Swedish "supergroup" has put out a handful of singles/EPs starting in 2013, IIRC- Amason. Their song, Algen, has been one of my favorite tunes from the last two years... for reasons I really can't explain (most definitely not garagey/post-punk).

they have put out an actual album called Sky City. I'm partway through the first song... . the first song is Algen though.

definitely picturing that like this.

I miss the old "Hoofmix, best of 20XX" downloads... :kicksrock:
I haven't downloaded a thing since spotify.
I'm way down from my obsessive peak. I mostly just download leaks of stuff that I can't wait for or things that I doubt will ever make it to Spotify. I haven't found a good search/aggregator site since Munju went down though.
I still make "hoof" mixes on my own, but yeah on spotify..

I check out a couple of the 2015 song playlists I have seen posted.

Daffodils is ####in' awesome!!
? Band or track?
Mark Ronson track
Is that one of the ones with Kevin Parker?

On a related note, the new album by Pond left me kind of meh. Pond used to have a bunch of cross-pollination with Tame Impala. Their new album has a bunch of long meandering psychedelic jams without enough hooks for me.

Yeah

Yeah I wasn't feeling the Pond either

I loved their first one but disliked their last one so much I haven't listened to the new one.

Link(s)?

2013

2014

2015

I got rock mixes! Going back to the 60's. My profile's a total mess. I don't solicit input anymore but I know what everybody's listening to and this place helps.

Nite Fields - Depersonalisation is good.

Nothing groundbreaking but if you're a fan of the JAMC/Church/Chameleons sound you'll probably enjoy it.

A second song was released a few days ago from the upcoming new Modest Mouse album. Link to song and video "Coyotes".

Nice ballad reminding me of the Ugly Cassanova stuff. Both released songs have been about man destroying the environment -- a theme not foreign to Modest Mouse and I suspect a theme used throughout the album.

I can't wait until March 3. From these first two songs, I think this album is going to be fantastic.
Their third single The Best Room has me convinced this album is gonna be up there with their better ones.

Been listening to Lampshades on Fire and The Best Room daily, both are great - not a huge fan of Coyotes, but its pretty good.

I have an iPod playlist every year of my favourite songs of the year. Was going to spotify it up this year, but like 6 of the first 15 or so songs weren't on spotify (yet?)

I think Erase Erata's Lost Weekend came out this year.

I like it- a bit of a more guitary rocking, full-band Le tigre indie-post-punkey thing.

I used to listen to a lot of Aphex Twin and it's ilk during my bleep-bloop early 90s gradschool years. Really haven't listened to that stuff at all in a decade plus, but...

the new Aphex Twin is really good. Sounds far less artificial- more or all real instruments/sounds (at least it sounds that way).

A few more I have listened to and liked this last week:

Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters

Mourn - Mourn

The Dodos - Individ

Song four: The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box

Been listening to this for a couple days, I was blown away when I first heard it, sounds like all of their different sounds all at once creating something similar but different.

Tanya Tagaq 'Animism' She channels a bit of Bjork, with an emphasis with throat singing. Backed by earthy/david lynch beats.

Amazing album, and story behind her work. She just beat out Arcade Fire, and a host of others for the Polaris prize.

Grooms - Comb the Feelings Through Your Hair
yeah- some good stuff on that.

I've been opening Pitchfork's reviews on Spotify every week or so and just going through the ones that sound in the right wheelhouse for me, regardless of their rating score.

Grooms, Pond, A Place to Bury Strangers, Mourn... I've put something from each into my 2015 folder.

Stupid question - where is that?

Was listening to A Place to Bury Strangers today too.

Every member of Mourn is younger than my youngest child :bag:
