Really coming into this thread with looking for advice. I'm an old rock & roll guy-Allman Bros.-Santana, lot's of guitar riffs & long solo's with guitar. Also got really into the Detroit black music; Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, etc. Also dig Dylan, Van Morrison. Anything our there for me?

Thanks!

me.

Leon Bridges' Coming Home is worth a listen. Old school sounding Soul/r&b.

Gary Clark Jr. - The Story of Sonny Boy Slim

Might be a bit too blusy for you but worth a shot.

And while they haven't put out anything in a couple years, JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound has a motown feel:

There's been a good bit of blues rock recently - The Black Keys, all of Jack White's bands (solo, White Stripes, Raconteurs, Dead Weather), Royal Blood, The Kills, Band of Skulls, Joe Bonamassa... I'll see if I can find a post I made with Youtube links to some of these.

Check out Ike Reilly - Born on Fire (Spotify link)

One of my favorites from this year, and based on what you've described I think it may be something you might like too.

hmmm... early YLT is a bit like the Feelies, and the GBs are a bit like Felt.

eta: and I forgot all about Twerp... thanks for the bump.

oooooh....

new Savages single came out (the answer). I've been waiting for a new album from them all year- hope they release the rest soon. big, big fan of that first one- and I like the single ok too.

This is really working out. Just watched a video of Joe Bonamassa, think the song is "Slow Gin". That guy can seriously play guitar. Just ordered a couple CD's. On to the next one.

Thanks!

Just watched/listened to JC. Love it.

Every generation needs their 1979 so Melbourne's Gold Class exists. Their sound is firmly rooted in retro post punk. Your enjoyment will largely depend on how you feel about the singer's energetic tone deaf baritone but I like both their fast, depressing songs and slow, depressing ones.

Ryan Adams covered "1989". The whole album. It's ####### amazing. My favorite record this year for sure.
I really can't explain why I'm listing to this so much.

Style is my favorite and I am wearing it out.

I have two daughters and they listen to a lot of Tay, so I guess this is me justifying liking their music.

Taylor Swift is a great song writer, that's why the Ryan Adams album is so good. Anyone who likes CHVRCHES and hasn't listened to 1989 (T Swift version) should go do so as well.

Anyway, I bought tickets before they released more than one song, and I am a huge National/Ramoma Falls/Menomena fan, so I was probably always going to love it, but the EL VY album is amazing. Better than the last National album, more dancier, mumbly Alligator era style Berninger with lots of piano and synth but better than that sounds.

They did a Halloween video for Silent Ivy Hotel. And their piano acoustic of No Time to Crank the Sun is great too.

This has been 90% of my listening since it came out. I love every note.

This gets mentioned in every write-up but the vocalist from Beach Slang was in a 90's band called Weston, who were pretty awesome. ...Got Beat Up is the obvious starting point. Still not as weird as the singer from Discount ending up in a wacky British two-piece and some band with the dude from the White Stripes.

Also, for any Beach House fans, they just released a surprise second album, Thank Your Lucky Stars, just two months after releasing Depression Cherry. Apparently the songs were all written in a short time last year and they recorded the album at the same time they recorded Depression Cherry. Could they have two fantastic albums two months apart?
Not really loving Thank Your Lucky Stars, at least not as much as Depression Cherry.

One of my favorite always-underrated bands, Young Galaxy, has released their newest, Falsework, as of late last week. Pretty similar to their previous albums if you're familiar....electronic-tinged synthpop/synthrock.

RIYL: Cut/Copy, School of Seven Bells, Class Actress

Awesome! Didn't know this one was out.

Along the same lines (and I searched and didn't see it had been mentioned) I've been playing a lot of Big Data lately. Their latest album (2.0) is on Amazon Prime and is very catchy. New Chvches album still kicks ###.

In other random news got my kid a couple tickets to the Awolnation/Fall Out Boy concert next year. I'm hoping his girlfriend dumps him by then and he takes me.

Probably not a niche many here are are in to, but Pentatonix released their new album on October 16th. They're an a capella group that gained notoriety doing covers, but this new album is mostly originals. If you haven't heard them before, these are a couple of my favorites and I recommend listening to them first:

**Also, I strongly recommend using decent speakers to catch more of the bass / beatboxer - their music is really impressive when you can hear all 5 parts, not just the main 3 that come through with my crap### computer speakers.

New Album, Pentatonix Deluxe

I would love to see Fall Out Boy, saw Awolnation at a festival a couple years ago and they didn't sound great, but I feel like that might be a loud synths in a wide open outdoor space problem

(Die Antwoord also didn't sound great there).

My kid is a big Fall Out Boy fan. I love Awolnation. Opening act is Prvis, who I've never heard of.

Working late and grooving on Big Data. Just not getting tired of this album. Excellent all around.

Just got an email that they're adding tour dates. Don't know where you are, but if they're stopping by me that means it's a hella tour.

Any of you music :nerd: know anything about turntables & setups etc? My 17 yo D wants one for Christmas this year and want to get a jump on shopping.

I miss my record collection :sadbanana:

Yup, coming within an hour of us, and Fall Out Boy is my boy's second-favorite band (after Awol). His birthday is 3 days before the concert.

He's 11... can I take an 11-year-old to that concert?

Records sound like garbage, so go cheap. Not a popular opinion, I know...

How can you not? Unless it's in a bar I don't see the problem if you take him. Well, as long as he can stand Bruno letting out f*** every few songs.

And hope that MF isn't part of the repertoire for the night.

I've heard that there have been child kidnapping attempts at many Fall Out Boy concerts. Give the boy a can of mace.

It's amazing how the script has been flipped back to vinyl being the thing.

they have a tour documentary on netflix now too

seems newish

Am I the only one who doesn't really get the love for Deerhunter? Every time I try to listen to an album of theirs I get bored after the first 3 or so tracks. And the new one is no exception.
