Best- Fouts

Worst- Dierdorf and not sure how he doesn't run away with this. (Guess Simms is his competition, dude puts me to sleep with his voice)

I voted Collinsworth as the best. Very insightful and isn't afraid to call anyone out.

Worst: Phil Simms. Voice annoys me and he seems to ramble and ramble and in the end he nevers tells me anything.

best? i like fouts a lot but aikman does really good work. he seems to handle the same teams all the time though. i would like to see how he handles someone other than a frontrunner.

worst? dierdorf but i kind of annoyed with collinsworth. he's better in studio than in the booth.

Best: I voted for Baldinger - but probably more for his work on NFL Network's "PlaybooK" more than anything else.

Worst: Dierdorf - but Simms is coming up fast on the worst list.

Side note: Does Aikman only do Cowboy games? Does Simms only do Pats games? It is kind of ridiculous.

Nice polling format. I agree with the basic current standings, except for Matt Millen. He's okay for the normal experienced NFL viewer.

Millen's unpopular ranking is a mixed result of his lack of NFL success and his true broadcast ability. I view those abilities as apples/oranges. Because I may be a poor driver/golfer/skater, does that make me a poor sports announcer?

Seems to me Aikman only does the Cowboys games, unless they're on a bye or not in/out of the playoffs.

I have to disagree. I was watching Wisconsin-Ohio State and this guy in the broadcast booth was saying the most insipid things imagineable (I don't remember what anymore) and I'm thinking "who is this idiot" and then I found out it was Millen. I've heard him a couple of times since and it's pretty much reinforced my opinion of him as an announcer. I haven't heard him do the NFL ( I guess he's on the NFL Network) but I'd find it hard to believe that doing college games is that much different.

I think Steve Young is an excellent analyst. You should hear him on KNBR (San Francisco) during his radio show. His insight is second to none.

I also think Trent Dilfer is proving to be an excellent analyst.

I don't think Dierdorf has always been quite this bad, but he's mailing it in this year. I'm not sure if even knows half the players in the league.

I don't like Chris Collinsworth's voice, or his face so he's the worst.

Sorry, Matt Millen isn't even close to Deirdorf. For that matter, Randy Cross.

Cross and Deirdorf are all by themselves, miles ahead of everyone else in the crappy department.

Emerging Solomon Wilcotts fan here. A couple of years ago I did not like him on Sirius (a style issue, not substance), but he's noticeably put in the hours to do well. Strikes me as a craftsman, always improving.

Was close between Aikman and Collinsworth, but I went with Chris.

Rich Gannon didn't even know that OT ended on the first score, so that's easily enough to be the worst for me.

:hifive: Matt Millen isn't bad at all. People can't separate the GM Matt Millen from the announcer Matt Millen, which is a shame. You think Moose Johnston, Troy Aikman, or Rich Gannon could run an NFL GM position either? Doesn't mean he can't announce. He was terrific in the booth before jackarse Ford snatched him up.

I don't get the love for Aikman at all. I don't think he adds anything. Though, admittedly, I couldn't be docking him points for being in the unfortunate seat next to Joe Buck.

I realize this is a list of former players, but I refuse to vote for a worst announcer when the list does not include Joe Buck.

The very worst is the trio of...Bill KingTom FloresJim PlunkettHoly ####sticks they are bad. Not only bad, but essentially clueless. They make everyone else look like brain surgeons. You might not get them nationally except in the preseason in most area, but they are epically bad. They dont even know basic Raider info for goodness sake. And the other team might as well be from Pluto.Add to that, that the in-play recognition is on sundial speed with garbeled meandering old man speech habits. And thats for all 3 of 'em.
Bill King is pretty spry for someone that died in 2005.

Best: Daryl Johnston

Worst: Brian Baldinger :goodposting:

Edit: I might have picked Dan Dierdorf, but I'm unfamiliar with him, as I rarely watch the NFL on CBS.

Millen should not win this against Dierdorf.

Well, Millen really shouldn't win anything anyway for that matter...

Maybe he doesn't qualify for this list, but Tony Siragusa should run away with worst if he was an option. The fact he's able to open his fat trap and chime in whenever he wants during a game is nauseating...worse if they actually put him on camera.

Failing him, I've hated Dierdorf since his MNF days.

Not a fan of Siragusa but he has really turned down the "funny, cool fat guy" shtick this year and is trying to become more of an analyst. He is actually has not been that bad when I have seen him.
