Best Buy can kiss my fanny good-bye (1 Viewer)

I kicked over a stand on my way out, threw some pennies on the floor and flicked off the little dude who called after me.
:rotflmao: You showed them!! This is the first time I've read this thread and I only read your introductory rant. The throwing pennies on the floor part made me laugh. :D

Yeah, well I threw them in a furious style.I'm a moron.

I don't know if I ever updated my contribution to the thread:My cousin broke up with the dude that got me my surround sound at half price about a month after the purchase. Perfect timing on my part.

I struck a blow against Best Buy...just for you Gen' 'Em...After Christmas I went to Target to buy Madden 2004 for PC...for $14.88...they were all out (I called ahead)...I asked for a raincheck for two...I'm not greedy...I then came back the next day and turned in my rainchecks for two $50 PS2 games...the raincheck was loosely worded and said, "like items"...so...PS2...is "like" PC games...is it not? So...two PS2 games for $14.88 each...I took my games home...but one...I kept in it's wrapping...just in case a better option came up...Well...just a few weeks ago...Resident Evil: Outbreak came out...I could've taken this game back anywhere...but...I remembered your Best Buy thread...so I took it back to Best Buy with no receipt...and they gave me only $44 credit...I was PISSED...LIVID I WAS! But I took it and bought Resident Evil: Outbreak...And I vow that anytime I can...I will extract more revenge on Best Buy and promote it to the masses...Now...moral of the story is..."Don't mess with my friends...or you'll have pennies thrown at you and have to deal with the consequences"

you rock! Thanks buddy! That makes me proud.

:rotflmao: From here on out, for any person that appears to be angry and madder then hell, I will say, "Settle down, penny-thrower."That should get some solid responses.COlin

I remembered your Best Buy thread...so I took it back to Best Buy with no receipt
Obviously you didn't remember the thread very well.
Yes...yes I did...If I'd have taken it back to where I had my actual receipt...and used said receipt...I would've only gotten $14.88 in store credit...or...if I'd taken it back to where I'd gotten it and not used the receipt...I would've gotten about the same as Best Buy (Target has similar policy...something like "lowest price within last 30 or 60 days or something)...So...I remembered the plight of my boy Gen' 'Em and decided to screw over Best Buy instead...I returned a game to them...that was bought at Target...for $14.88...and bought a $50 game with the store credit I received at Best Buy...And if the opportunity arises to strike a blow against them once again...I will take it...Gen' 'Em's pennies will not go to waste!

No worries...I'll just return them to Best Buy anyway...

I, too, have recently taken it up the butt courtesy of Best Buy.Back in February of this year I bought a very nice Sony Vega flatscreen TV. Initially, I was very happy with the TV, but after a couple of months, the screen would turn black. This went on a few weeks and I finally decided to take it in. I wasn't in a huge hurry, because I was very busy and the closest best buy was about 45 mins. away.Long story short I took the TV in (with receipt in hand) asking for a new TV. To my surprise they wouldn't exchange. because it was 1 day past the deadline for exchanges. Was I pissed. I ranted and raved, and was threatened to be thrown out of the store. When I finally got it out of my system, I talked them into fixing it for free. Got it back, and it wasn't fixed. Took it back in, and they decided to charge me to fix it. When I told them I just had it in a week ago, they told me there was nothing they could do. Bull####. I already was there so I decided to just bend over and pay to let them fix it. Guess what?Still doesn't work. No matter who I talk to or what I say, it doesn't matter. Bottom line is I am stuck with an expensive TV that doesn't work.F'em. Never Again will I shop there (for real).Right now I am thinking of buying the exact same model TV (using cash), and pulling the old switcharoo. Put the old TV in the new box, and return it a week later. And I am thinking of throwing pennies on the floor on my way out.Any thoughts? I would think it would be quite simple to do this.May be a little shady, but I have been screwed from the beginning and need restitution.Thoughts from those in the know?

Not to rain on the bash BestBuy parade but isn't your TV covered by a manufacturer warranty? Sounds like your issue is with a ####ty Sony TV, not with BestBuy (besides the fact they charged you to fix something and did not deliver).

I think your tirade was the only kind of response that will ever register with these corporations - you have to make a problem for them - otherwise just off to slaughter with the other lambs with their bullcrap return policies.Good for you -from a guy with a temper too.

It is a tad shady, but I think that’s exactly what you should do. Sounds like you have only one store around you. Too bad that you can’t just go to a different one where they won’t know you.Getting a lemon blows, but ironically, Best Buy helped me out big time a few years ago. I bought a 50” big screen projection TV (about the same time I got the NFL Ticket). I was so damn excited about watching football on it. It was working great and then it just crapped out. I called the manufacturer and they sent me on to one of their “qualified technicians”. The technicians came to my house and said they had to take the base (with all the lights with them) and left me with just the screen and mirror. They said I’d have it back in three weeks.Well, to make a long story short, I didn’t get it back in three weeks and I fought with the repair people for months (never had it for the football season). It got so bad that I went to their store and they claimed they didn’t have it. I went crazy and they threw me out and I called the police…and it just got ugly. During all this I kept the manufacturer in the loop. So they knew and my account was well documented. They had my claim number and all my phone calls and issues with the repair people on record. They ended up calling Best Buy for me and asked if they would be willing to just do an even exchange. They agreed. I brought in the top part of the TV and they gave me another brand new TV. I’ve had this new TV for around 7 years now and I haven’t had any problems at all. I’m glad I stuck with the same model. Which is something I was worried about since I just had a bad experience with this particular model. I remember at the time Best Buy even offered to give me full credit for the TV if I wanted to get a different brand. I really thought they went above and beyond and I’m glad they did.

Bottom line is I am stuck with an expensive TV that doesn't work.

I agree with this filthy degenerate that actually has bought me a beer before. Even though the PSPs(what Best Buy calls extended warranties) are pure profit for the Best Buys, they also come in very handy. I have had to use teh one for my 57" HDTV twice now and can only imagine what it would have cost me to pay out of my pocket.

dude, seriously... I work at Best Buy... thoughts:1. YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHEN THE 90 DAYS WAS UP!! Its your fault...2. Buy the service plan... It more than likely is worth it since it lasts like 3 years and covers anything, and if you bring it in for repairs 4 times (for anything) they replace it no questions asked...3. if its more than 27' with a service plan (I think its 27, I could be wrong) they do service in home... lol

wrong...I work in the tech department (the peeps who fix stuff)...at least at my Best Buy, we all care (excpet maybe one guy, but I haven't actually worked with him yet, but looking at his service orders I have suspicians about him... lol)heck, if they ever tell us to start charging everyone and telling them to do things they don't need, half of my department would quit on the spot (including me)...

dude, seriously... I work at Best Buy...
:rotflmao: That explains so much.
why? Because someone had a bad experience with a sucky employee so Best Buy in general sucks?Seriously, if you don't get all pissed and freak out, they are WAY more likely to do something fo ryou...if you pay attention to your days and stuff, they are going to help you... We had someone come in like a week after his warranty ended and we CAN'T help him for free because it was over...A business cannot run like that, I realize you want free stuff, but they can't run thier company like that and we all know it...

That's why I shop at locally owned stores. Yeah, some of the stuff may be a buck or two more, but the people there know me and I've never gotten the retail ramrod on a return or exchange.

I don't blame Best Buy at all here. What's to stop someone else from buying a sale item, then returning it after the sale is over and claiming to not have a receipt? No offense man, but you should be thankful they took it back at all.

Well listen to Mr. Big Man. Didn't you just start working at BB yesterday? They've already sucked you in and brainwashed you.1. I agree. However, concessions can be made on large purchases.2. Service plans are a ripoff. If you buy a TV, it should work after three months.3. Huh? I'm guessing you mean 27 inches.

1. no, exceptions should not be made, you are explicitly told 90 days, if you take it in on day 91, you don't get anything...actually, no, I think I could understand making an exception if it broke on day 91, MAYBE, but then what about day 92? Day 92 is just as far from day 91 and day 91 is from day 90, what's the difference? Eventually, the store would have to take up a policy that is basically "Return it whenever, if it broke we'll replace it", but that would be financial suicide and we all know it...2. The service plans are there for that exact reason, they SHOULD work for a while, but they don't... and when they don't, either you bought the service plan, or you are screwed...Also, a ton of things are the people's faults, think of htis:If you buy a computer from us, you get diagnostics run on it for free, but we don't remove viruses or spyware for free...If someone brings us a computer and they basically tell us outright it has virus/spyware issues, they get free diagnostics, even if we know that they don't need it, they only have spyware/viruses...Does that make sense? Not really... I mean, diagnostics cost $60 and the problem they are having isn't covered under the warranty, but they still get it...It is the person's fault they have viruses and spyware (it isn't that hard to not get 15,000 instances of 75 different spyware programs, I mean, really...), but we still give them free diagnostics...They are pricey, but that is because most problems cost about that much to fix...You buy a $1500 computer, it brakes, it more than likely will cost you $200+ dollars to fix it no matter where you go, so charging $300 for a 3 year service plan covering anything and promising if it breaks 4 times you get a new one (and a new service plan, I think) is WAY fair... if it breaks 3 times, you saved yourself AT LEAST $400 by buying the service plan...If the product isn't easily repairable, it is worth getting a service plan... aka - $40 diskman, don't get the service plan... $10,000 plasma TV, GET THE SERVICE PLAN NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COSTS BECAUSE IT WILL SAVE YOU MONEY!!Or would you rather have to pay thousands of dollars to fix it IF it does break? I'd rather pay like $500 or whatever up front and make sure it won't break and cost me thousands...3. Yes, I meant 27", I just didn't realize I hit "'" instead of """...

I will concede that it is my fault that I took it back on day 91. I can live with and accept that. My problem was, AFTER I had taken it in twice to be fixed, they did nothing to fix it (even charging me something like $25 once).I was told after the first time I took it in that they fixed the TV in house. At the time as long as it worked, I was happy with it. 2 days after I got it back, the same problem occurred, so I took it back in. When I had it in the second time, I told the dork behind the counter everything, and asked him what exactly they did to fix it the first time. He advised me that the last time they checked all of the connectors and everything seemed to check out fine. So basically they did nothing. Then they decided to charge me to fix it again! This was the point where I really went off. I know that I am just one person, and my business was obviously insignificant to them, but I wanted to let someone know how I felt. I asked for the manager, and he brought me another kid who was at most 23 years old. When this happened I stated that I wanted the store manager. They said no. I repeatedly asked for the store manager, but to no avail. At one point a big guy that works the door came over and threatened to remove me from the store. I called him meathead and told him to sit down. I was surprised that he listened to me. But none of it mattered. So, for the second time I bent over and told them to go ahead and fix it with my dime. Fine, I don't care, all I want is my TV to be fixed. I filled out the paperwork and was told I would be called when it was done. Two weeks pass with no call. I thought that maybe it was taking longer because they had to send it in to either Sony or to one of Best Buys centers. By the third week I finally had it and decided to call. After talking to 4 different people I finally find out that it is done, and has been ready for over 2 WEEKS! WTF?!? Thanks for calling! When I got to the service desk to pick up my TV, I ask another dink what was done, and if it is finally fixed. He told me that they checked the connectors, and everything was fine. WTF? Thats what they did last time! Now they are charging me $25 for it. #### em. As I waited for the piece of ####, I was a #### to anyone who dared talk to me. I took my TV home, and of course it still doesn't work.So Larry, to answer your question, yes I am at fault for not getting it back before 91 days. But this problem should have been fixed after the fact. But, I guess you get what you pay for. If you want to deal with idiots, go to Best Buy. Also Larry, you can take your extended warranty and shove it up you ###. :boxing: So yes, I am going to buy the same TV using cash and am going to put my POS in the box and keep the new one. I don't care. I will get a TV that works.I WILL NEVER AGAIN SHOP AT BEST BUY. (After I do the switcharoo). If I get busted, do you think all the other Best Buy haters can start a collection for my legal defense?

Let me apologize for the way I wrote my above post. It was much more entertaing than what I posted, but I am half asleep after being up all night with a sick kid.

1. I agree. However, concessions can be made on large purchases.
If retailers can make concessions as you claim, do you think the retailer is just going to just eat the cost of the returned product in those situations? No way! They will try to return the 90+ day old TV back to the manufacturer. Most manufacturers would rather you go through their warranty process than have some retailer just blindly exchanging a 90+ day old TV for a new one. If Best Buy won't take back a Sony TV with a 91 day old receipt, it's probably because Best Buy already knows that Sony won't take it back from Best Buy after 90 days. Sony warranties their TVs. Use Sony's warranty.

Sorry larry boy, you are living in a dream land. Case in point, I brought a VHS-C Panasonic Camcorder for $900.00 back in 2000. Brought the Best Buy Service plan for 3 years ($100). After 2 years and 10 months the main recording head began to make noise which showed up on the recordings, so I took it in to Best Buy for service. Waited two weeks then got a call my camcorder was ready to be picked up.So I went to the store and the kid behind the counter give me back the camcorder and says "They refuse to fix it under warranty, I can send it back if you would like to pay for the repairs. The cost would be $517.00.I said WTF?He said that Best Buy does not service camcorders anymore they are sent back to the factory to be "Factory Refurbished" and that the Best Buy Service Plan is an extention of the Factory Warranty. According to the paperwork sent back with my camera the panasonic tech found some corrosion on my circuit board in the camera and this voided my warranty. None of the store service personal could answer my questions. So to make a long story short Panasonic voided my warranty for something that was not malfunctioning in the camera and was not the reason I brought it in for service to begin with. Panasonic will only restore the camcorder to factory new condition, they will not just repair the problem. Best Buy HQ told me that since Panasonic voided the warranty the service plan was voided too and that the corrosion on the circuit board showed I had abused the camcorder. After much #####ing a received $18 from Best Buy which was a pro-rated refund of what was left of my purchase of the service plan.I will be happy to supply you with the following to verify my story:1. The confirmation from the better business bureau of my compliant against Best Buy2. Paperwork sent back with the camcorder3. Letter from Best Buy explaining that they were sorry I was dissatisfied with Best Buy service and that they were refunding me the $18 as a show of good faith. The only reason I still go to Best Buy once in a while is because during my quest for answers on this, a service tech at my local store who used to be at the Best Buy repair facility for camcorders (Here in Michigan) asked to look at my camera. He spent about 20 minutes looking at it and said a repair shop could fix it for about $100 and that corrosion on the circuit board can easily happen from condensation just by taking the camcorder inside after using it on a hot day but it shouldn't effect the function. He added he was sorry I got the shaft.EDITED TO ADD: Btw I did get the camcorder repaired (recording head replaced) for $109 OTD and it is still working great today. Nobody at Best Buy ever even mentioned replacing it under the service plan. So I submit to you sir that service plans ARE a ripoff.
