Oh crap... i'm getting old, i don't know one guy on this list other than Drake.. and i only know who he is because Amanda Bynes tweeted that she wanted him to murder her vag

If my life depended on naming one song by any of these people, I'd be dead.
:goodposting:
none of them are famous except drake
J. Cole is on the borderline but isn't quite famous yet.
Depends how you define famous. Kendrick is pretty much accepted as the greatest current rapper and his 2012 album, "Good Kid, MAAD City" was considered one of the best rap albums in years. Most of the people I know under the age of 35 know who he is and love him.

Kendrick Lamar but Action Bronson wins this in a landslide if he's up there
I like Action Bronson, but he he doesn't even come close to touching Kendrick.
West Coast bias talking here....Kendrick like a Compton version of Drake
West Coast bias? That is straight up blind hate. Drake is the rapper for 15 year old girls. Kendrick is the heir to West Coast throne held by artists like Easy, Ice Cube, and Snoop. How are you comparing the two???

When I looked at the poll, I had the same thought almost word-for-word.
Obviously not everyone here agrees with me, but Kendrick Lamar is the guy you should check out. His last two albums were rap classics.

The list is missing Action Bronson, Killer Mike and Danny Brown. They are better than most everyone else listed.

Kendrick is too big for this list. Wins easy.

Will say that JCole's Born Sinner album turned me around on him. Decent

I can't think of a time when cube was thought of as the best in the west. Easy, snoop, yup. But that was tupacs crown for a long long time and skipped right over cube.

I've been out of the game for way too long - which of these guys is best for someone who loves ATCQ, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Nas, and Mos Def?

When Cube broke off from NWA, for a couple years, he held it down before Snoop and 2Pac really took off.

From 90-93 Cube delivered 4 solid albums in a row. Snoop was considered the best after The Chronic but around 90/91 Ice Cube was the man.

Ill admit I have been up to date on the indie scene as I used to be so I havent heard of some of those rappers until I heard the 1 Train song on the A$AP Rocky album (awesome album BTW!). I immediately became enamored with Danny Brown & Big Krit's verses. Anybody have links to more of their stuff? Although, I have a feeling Danny Brown will start to annoy me after awhile with that nasal voice.

Whoever is picking the singles for J.Cole should be fired!! The single they play on the radio is one of the worse on his CD. The same thing happened on his previous CD too

Death Certificate/Predator/Lethal Injection

Pac was a EastCoast type cat in that era (staring in Juice)

Brown's LP (XXX, I think?) is on Spotify, it's interesting stuff. He's a lunatic.

I think it might have been ilov80s who recommended this in the 2013 Best Albums thread. Never listened to him, I was rather impressed with his lyrics and the album was considerably better than what I expect to hear from popular rappers these days.
