I gathered this data for an argument in another thread on another board, and thought it might be of interest to some. I basically just gathered all the wins for a division. Since their games against each other even out, this is probably the best way to compare divisions, though it isn't perfect either, because of luck of who your division is playing in a given season. Anyway, here is what I came up with.
In the last 4 years, which there are 8 Divisions, each with 4 teams, here are the results:
In the 10 years prior to that, during the first 3, there were 6 divisions, 4 of which had 5 teams, while two division had only 4 teams, for those 3 years, I averaged out the wins to even them out. In the other 7 years, there were 6 division, each having 5 teams. Here were the results:
