Best Draft in Years, worst start in years (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
12 team league with 1 keeper, full ppr
My team:
QB- Love and Purdy (start 1)
RB- Bijan, Rhamondre, Javonte, Bigsby, Steele (start 2)
WR- Chase, AJ Brown, Aiyuk, Diontae, JMeyers, Doubs, Quentin Johnston (start 2)
TE- McBride and TJ Hockenson (start 1)
Flex (start 1 from RB/WR/TE)
Kicker- Boswell
Defense- Packers

I have had the worst start! Week 1 I needed 2 points from Greg Zuerlein and he gets 1, so I tied. Week 2 I get nothing from Chase or Aiyuk and I started Jakobi Meyers instead of Johnston
In week 3 I started Rhamondre as he has been solid and he gets 23 yards on Thursday night football!

So I’m careening towards a 0-2-1 start and I’m getting super frustrated. I think I have a strong team on paper but I’m losing and losing. I know it’s early but I’m thinking about where do I draw the line and start thinking and planning for 2025. I’m thinking about trying to hang in until I’m 0-5.

I’m usually in the playoffs challenging for the championship, but no way this year. It’s more frustrating because I lost in the 2023 title game by 18 points, so I thought I was close and just needed to make some adjustments.

Anyway, any advice or thoughts? I don’t really want to quit but my team is so pathetic I can’t help but think ahead. Anyway, whatever.

Same, same.

Last year I started out 1-4 and there were two 5-0 teams. I didn't give up. I kept making moves and eventually my team started scoring like they should I won the whole ******** thing. Moral of the story. If your team is solid and underperforming for a couple weeks, just keep working and it should turn around for you. It's not over til it's over.

Thank you, I appreciate the support and advice. I did fix kicker (drafted Matt Gay and have since picked up Boswell), defense (Packers after drafting Eagles), and just added Carson Steele.
I have made one trade so far. I drafted Jonathan Brooks and a university of Texas homer offered me a 2025 3rd for him. I had to take it. So even if 2024 never turns around, I have 2 3rds next year. And I do think I have some pieces that could get me 2025 picks if I go the fire sale route. It has just been SO bad! I ended up with 3 stud WRs (Chase, AJ, and Aiyuk) so I thought with those 3 and Bijan and McBride that I was scary. Apparently not.

It's been 2+ weeks. Give them time.

Thanks Gally. So let me ask this question... With the roster I posted, would you expect to win too? Or am I lying to myself and the reality is that my team sucks and I am just clueless in my post draft optimism and excitement? I hate losing it's true. But if my team is truly bad, I can take the "L" and own the blame. I thought I had a great mix of stars and depth and options across different teams. As I say, I don't want to give up on 2024, but at some point it almost seems smarter to throw in the towel and start trading and planning for 2025. In my work/real life I have learned that I can make a mistake once and that its ok to learn from mistakes. But if I make the same mistake twice, that is on me.

Thoughts?

I think you have a solid roster but have run into some bad injury luck (Love/AJ Brown and Aiyuk hold out/slow start). I am not sure that trading Brooks for a 3rd rounder was a great deal but you know your league better than I do.

It appears to be a keep 1 league so not sure that even matters as it's essentially just a redraft format. That being said, there is no reason to "tank" the season and start playing for next year.

You need some things to bounce your way but every team needs that to win. I think you are in fine shape and have a path to be competitive. Just keep working.

Thanks. It is a 12 team league where we keep 1 year to year. My keeper was Bijan Robinson, who has been ok but not great so far. I traded Brooks because a 3rd round pick is pretty valuable and I still don't know 1) how bad the Panthers are and 2) where Brooks fits in with Hubbard and Miles Sanders. In the 2024 draft, my 3rd rounder was Brandon Aiyuk (just missed Devonta Smith and chose Aiyuk over Montgomery, Najee Harris, CJ Stroud, Waddle and DK Metcalf. Hmm, maybe I didn't draft so well after all.

Nothing to worry about. Get annoyed and mad at players etc…. But you’ll be fine.

It’s the beginning of the year. It just goes like this sometimes. Last year I had a great “drafted team” but just couldn’t win. I made tweaks and trades and in the end made the championship game. Good players are good players. You’ll be fine.

Don't worry, it has been some bad injury luck. If your guys can get healthy you have a shot if you make playoffs. I had one team last year that was 2-4 to start and I made the championship game. Aiyuk will have better games, especially with Kittle and Deebo out.

Hang in there and hope you start getting some of your players back soon. Too early to panic and pack it in.

Side note, I like getting an extra 3rd rounder next year, especially since you can only keep 1. I'd be keeping Bijan over Brooks so good move there and Brooks can't help you right now. So you got something out of it.
