the nfl "best picks" add has me wondering how late some of the best players were drafted so i looked up some players .

only list players that won a super bowl or nfl championship for the team that drafted them .

i have only looked a few players up from each champ 1948 + , but heres a list of great value imo .

im sure ive missed a lot, so feel free to add .

Unitas was drafted by the Steelers; Buoniconti was a star draft pick of the Patriots.

Some more guys drafted outside of the top 75 who went on to win championships with the team that drafted them:

Code:
RAM	Andy Robustelli (228)	SFO	Joe Montana (82)	DET	Joe Schmidt (85)	GNB	Jim Ringo (79)	NWE	Tom Brady (199)	DAL	Roger Staubach (129)	OAK	Art Shell (80)	PIT	Mike Webster (125)	NYG	Jimmy Patton (92)	NYG	Rosey Brown (321)	BAL	Raymond Berry (232)	DEN	Shannon Sharpe (192)	GNB	Bart Starr (200)	CHI	Richard Dent (203)	PIT	L.C. Greenwood (238)	TAM	John Lynch (82)	NYG	Harry Carson (105)	CLE	Gene Hickerson (78)	CHI	Joe Fortunato (80)	MIA	Jake Scott (159)	PIT	Andy Russell (220)	OAK	Cliff Branch (98)	DAL	Rayfield Wright (182)	SFO	Charles Haley (96)	DEN	Tom Nalen (218)	PIT	Hines Ward (92)	CLE	Walt Michaels (86)	WAS	Charles Mann (84)	SFO	Bill Romanowski (80)	PIT	John Stallworth (82)	DAL	Jethro Pugh (145)	DAL	Bob Hayes (88)	BAL	Fred Miller (93)	DAL	George Andrie (82)	CLE	Leroy Kelly (110)	OAK	Rod Martin (317)	BAL	Ordell Braase (160)	MIA	Vern Den Herder (230)	BUF	Mike Stratton (100)	DEN	Terrell Davis (196)	OAK	Lester Hayes (126)	SFO	Steve Wallace (101)	PIT	Aaron Smith (106)

Leon Lett (173) - While renowned for the boneheaded plays, he was a key player in three Super Bowls

Larry Brown (320) - Not a great player, but came up big/lucky in one Super Bowl

Why are you limiting the 'best draft picks' to only SB teams? I can't say for sure, but maybe the 'best' draft pick ever, never played on a SB team?

Terrell Davis at 196 has to be one of the top picks given the subject.
Practically half of the '96-'98 Denver offense qualifies given these requirements. Davis @ 196, Sharpe @ 192, Nalen @ 218, Rod Smith @ UFA. That's three guys who wouldn't look the slightest bit out of place in the HoF and a fourth guy who would be a first ballot HoVGer.

a teams goal is to win a championship, not get some of the greatest players and come up short. a teams draft pick must be part of an equation that wins a title for it to be considered greatest of all time because that is the reason for a draft/team imo . i am looking at it like this . a team drafts a player . they go on to win a championship .which player drafted by the team, was the most, or one of the most important players on the team the year they won a title . not just the super bowl, but for the year . so for me, the qb usually has highest value because they handle the ball the most . they decide what to do with it . and usually, they have the strongest link to the coach, and if a team is run right also the gm . imagine every game a champion played . which player , if out for the year, would have made it the most unlikely for them to win it all . usually, its the qb . the 64 browns, its rb jim brown . the 00 ravens lb ray lewis . 07 giants, i would say strahans leadership and sack . which caused coach to make a mistake and not try a fg .

just consider the question in context of a champ . maybe the best pick does not have to have a title . but im just inquiring that question .

for me i would give best all time to bart star at 200 . the only qb to win 5 titles . 9-1 playoffs . he was the most important piece of the packer 5 time champ dynasty . and was the 200 pick .

next i would go 4 time champ montana 82 . if joe green, or lambert for the 70 steelers were drafted later i would go them, but they were drafted earlier than montana.

next i would go brady at 199 . 3 time champ . drafted later than layne, graham

i would go davis next, 196 - 2 titles - cant imagine them winning without him. especially in 97 . what a comboe posted . davis, sharpe, etc

just one guys opinion

No mention of 12th rounder (#310 overall) Karl Mecklenburg? And you call yourself a Broncos fan... :towelwave:

I'll throw out a  pick for five time pro-bowler and eighth round draft pick (who today would be a undrafted FA) Jessie Armstead.

Like Colston, recent late pick, Cortland Finnegan of the Titans was a 7th rounder (215) that was 1st all-pro in his 3rd season in the league.

Kinda like Ryan Succup like Joe B used to mention in those weekly emails. Easy to root for "mr. irrelevant"
