I can give details on my league but in general where are you looking to draft from this year?

Does the #1 look better than being in the middle at say #5?

Maybe you can pick from the #10 spot this year and grab S-JAX and JC on the turn. Where do you think the best draft slot is this year?

with no 3rd round reversal #1 is best. You get your choice of stud RB, should land a top WR another good RB in the second, and theres a good chance youll get a top 4 qb in the 3rd

all other things being equal, in a true snake draft (not a 3rd round reversal) the #1 has the most advantage.i don't see this year as any different.Say you do get S-Jax and JC... then you're waiting 20 more picks until your next choice... and by then the guys that drafted LBJ, ADP, RR, and MJD have all had 3 picks to your two.my 2¢...(ps. i don't normally use the initials to signify players... but since you had to challenge me to think so hard about who "JC" was i thought i'd play along... and geez, it was a little easier, maybe i start using them more often. thanks)

I think the top 5 RBs are tightly packed enough that #5 has to be in consideration - Getting Gore/Rice to start then harvesting value for the draft is just as good, if not better than getting Johnson to start and having to reach here and there because you are at the turn. At least 2-3 players you really want but pass on will fall to your next pick at the 5 slot over the course of the draft, but that rarely happens when you pick at the turn.

in a 10 team snake draft, I'd say #3 or #4 slot is best.there are 4 top RB's that I'd be happy to land in the first round and if I get one of those, and dont pick too late in round 2 that would likely give me the best advantage (in my opinion)so that is where I would want to pick.

I say find out for yourself! Fantasy Football Calculator has a clean, easy-to-use mock draft interface (not a paid endorsement) and there are enough good drafters to make it worth your while. I've been playing around with it a bit and have found that anywhere in 1-5 is a pretty nice place to be. I've liked my teams the least in the 7-9 range.

The best spot to pick from, IMO, depends on your own tiers. Like Bloom said, if you have 5 RBs grouped pretty tightly...then you'd probably want to pick 5th. If you have Chris Johnson and ADP neck-and-neck, you might prefer to choose from the 2nd slot.

ex) RB Tier 1: Chris Johnson/ADP, RB Tier 2: Gore/Turner/SJax/Mendenhall/DeAngelo

WR Tier 1: Andre Johnson, WR Tier 2: Moss/Calvin/Wayne/etc.

-Let's say in this scenario that I couldn't get my hands on the 1st or 2nd draft slot, I might prefer the 8th pick because I would end up with either my undisputed #1 WR or whichever RB fell to me from my 2nd tier.

But u'd have to wait 15 more picks for ur 3rd round pick

It always the earlier the better in non Banzai Method drafts.

You can still overcome and win drafting in the middle or even later.

But either you want the odds in your favor (before a pick has ever been made) or you don't.

This. Having the #17 pick in round 2 gives you plenty of options......Top 5 WR, top 3 QB, nice RB2, depending on picks 5-16.

I like third pick this year, take one of the top 3 RB (AP/CK2k/MJD) in about any league. Round 2 should yield an excellent WR knowing picks 1 and 2 already have their RB secure. Round 3 take best value RB or WR depending on your league rules and line up. Since going early in round 3 taking a top 4 QB is not a bad plan either again depending on the league rules and line up requirements.

I think that the Top 4 RB's stand alone compared to everyone else this year, (being Johnson, ADP, MJD, and Rice) so i think any of the top 4 slots in the draft would be ideal to pick from. That being said however it might be better to get the 4th slot if you are happy with any of those 4, and you will then in turn recieve a better 2nd round pick or prefer a better 3rd round pick if you got the 1st slot.

Then you select earlier in round 2.I also dont like picking on the end of the serpentine draft, so I dont like the #1 slot so much. especially when the top 4 RB's are fairly similar in terms of expected fantasy production.

Would anyone's opinion of this change if you were in a 14 team league? i currently have the one spot and could probably finagle a trade down to the 3 or 4 spot.

Personally I like 5th. From what I am seeing there is always some nut that jumps at a QB early or lets MJD/Rice fall to #5. If you don't get one of them you get Turner. You also pick right in the middle rounds after.
