Best draft slot discussion (1 Viewer)

I joined a league that lets us draw for draft choice slots and then in that order we get to decide where we draft. I ended up with the 3rd choice so I've been mocking through scenario's and was curious what others have experienced. This format is a 3RR with 1 PPR and 4 for a passing TD. There is 1 UTIL, 3 WR, and 2 RB plus the usual 1QB, 1PK, and 1 DT.

My initial instinct is that 5-9 is horrible however in running some mocks I'm not so sure. Picking at the top gets you one of the top 3-4 "studs" but you become very top heavy given the 3RR format. Picking 10-12 might actually be after AJ and Fitz are gone so what you end up with are the mid 1st round RB's or reaching for a WR or QB. The value in 2/3 is nice of course. I think you'll end up with a deep team but without the true stud per preseason rankings you'd get picking high.

Picking around 6 means for you it's not really a 3RR but a straight draft and let's you take a stud WR and fill in RB's for value later.

Meanwhile I need to go make my choice soon and 3 was taken first then 11 so I'm mainly debating between 1, 2, 10, 12, and 6.

I say go for 6. No matter what, you are always in the middle of the rounds and will most likely find value every round as others scramble to try and hedge their bets for the reversal. I have no actual experience in a 3RR draft, but I am a big fan of "middle of the round" draft slots.

In mocks so far the middle actually looks pretty good ... never too long between picks and you get your choice of the top 2nd tier of rb or the top tier of wr in round 1 that you won't have with a late #1. That said, I think I'm leaning #1 and MJD and getting 2 picks in a row despite the late 3rd in the 3RR.

In a PPR I think I'd rather have MJD and TO over Slaton and Jennings if you compare your 1st and 3rd's. Only question then is if you go with the 2nd pick for ADP and higher later picks ... I'm thinking take MJD now.

Sounds like an assistant coach forum question now...

Any thread in this forum that discusses players could go there. I'm asking where people think the best spot is to draft.
