Best Draft Strategy for a Keeper League? (1 Viewer)

Our 12-team league is in our 14th year, but this year will be the first with a keeper setup. Each team can keep 0-3 players from last year, and they slot in 2 rounds higher than the round where they were originally drafted.

I'm wondering how and to what extent do your keepers affect your draft/team-building strategy?

Just as an example (this could be any similar situation), my keepers include:

- a first round RB1 with an ADP of 4 that counts as my 7th round pick

- a third round WR1/2 with an ADP of 33 as my 10th round pick

- a third round RB2 with an ADP of 34 as my 6th round pick

Normally for this year I'd go RB1 with my first round pick, RB2 (or maybe WR1) in the second, and WR1 in the third. If I continued that philosophy I would likely end up with another of the top 5 RBs, and a top 5 WR1 leaving me with an elite set of weapons at RB/WR/FLEX but likely a low-end QB.

On the other hand, based on my already strong keepers at RB, I could change things up completely and draft a QB in round one, or a Calvin Johnson. And maybe a Jimmy Graham in round two. But those picks (especially at pick number 2, my slot this year) would go completely against conventional wisdom in a straight re-draft league (at least with our rules, no PPR etc.)

So to put it another way, do you use your keeper list as a strategic weapon during the draft to fill out a well-rounded team regardless of conventional draft wisdom, or do you play it by the book and draft the best available talent regardless of position?
