Can't believe there is no poll on best holiday...

I could see the arguments for all other holidays listed, but I don't think any come close to Thanksgiving.

Reasons Turkey Day is #1:

Food, by far better than any other holidays, including BBQ holidays

Always on a Thursday (for most a four day weekend every year)

Football

Getting together with family without needing to buy endless amounts of gifts and receiving a bunch of #### you'll never use

Food, again

Yeah. Christmas is exhausting, expensive, and creates traffic jams. I enjoy Christmas day and all, but the month of December is just brutal b/c of it.

Thanksgiving is just straight awesomeness, with no real downside. (I don't travel)

Forgot another reason, unfortunately it is no longer applicable to myself, but still...

Thanksgiving Eve is perhaps the best night of the year for single dudes, right up there with Halloween & NYE - besides being one of the biggest party nights of the year, every lonely single girl is prepared to make a bad decision, & this is before the alcohol. It's hard not to get laid on Thanksgiving Eve, unless you're married...

Thanksgiving is by far my very favorite holiday with July 4th coming in 2nd. Both are tremendous days.

Christmas is perhaps my least favorite holiday because it celebrates a fictional event that not everybody believes in. Plus, the consumerism and expectations of expense eat at the very essence of my soul. I hate hanging lights, hate the fact that we kill trees and the music...nonstop, brain-eating music everywhere.

Christmas with kids....followed by Halloween and then the 4th.

Without kids, Thanksgiving is great as its laid back, with more or less 5 days of vacation and imbibing.

Most overrated is New Years Eve....regardless.

I'd put Memorial Day and Labor Day ahead of New Years and Christmas. 3 day weekends are a sweet reward for hard work. Christmas on a Wednesday can blow me and New Years is when amateurs go out drinking.

Thanksgiving can be good or bad depending on the food served. If the food is great, its awesome. But if you visit friends or relatives and the food is terrible, is sucks to have to smile while shoving it down your throat.

Christmas is a kids holiday. Its a holiday where adults set up a festival for kids to enjoy. Its not for you.

Sure. Tell that to Lexus.

Just taking advantage of overgrown kids.

Right. It's a holiday of exploitation and consumerism centered around a lie. Pass.

Can't believe I'm the only vote for Memorial Day. Start of the summer and it brings a feeling that always reminded me that school was almost over.

BBQs, pools open and the beach season begins. Nice weather and long day light.

What's your ideal holiday?

Hated Christmas when I was younger but now that I have kids it is my favorite. I think it is what you make of it. For me I enjoy the ideals behind the entire time of the year. I don't focus on the commercialism of it just the peace on earth good will toward man part of it.

I remember as a younger single man from Thanksgiving to Christmas seemed like a lot of lonely women looking for someone to share time with.

Tie between Memorial Day, 4th and Labor Day. Weather better during Memorial Day and Labor Day, but I get to take my kids to fireworks on the 4th. Christmas is good b/c my kids love it so much but I have to go to someone's house on both eve and day which blows.

I went 4th of July because Murica!

But no really, nothing better than pools, BBQs, warm weather, cold beer. Doesn't get much better. Guess the same could be said for Memorial Day, but 4th of July is just always a good time.

Thanksgiving and it's not close. Non-commercialized, no cards, no gifts, guaranteed four day weekend, NFL football with the Lions on TV, great food, perfect time of year. If I could design a perfect holiday, I would take Thanksgiving as-is and not change a thing.

Thanksgiving. It's perfect. No volume in the markets, so everybody takes off early the day before. Thanksgiving eve is one of the best nights of the year to get good and loaded while your prepping food to cook the next day. You get to sleep in Thursday, by 9:30am the Lions are on TV, gambling has commenced and mimosas are being poured. The house is consumed by the fine smells of turkey, stuffing and a dozen other items yielding a perfect blend that can only happen on Thanksgiving. Booze flows like the river Styx and football is on. ALL. DAY. LONG. It's the one day of the year I'm not only expected to but ENCOURAGED to take a nap. I never nap. Do you realize how glorious that is? Pumpkin pie, champagne, hot toddies....all things I rarely enjoy the rest of the year I pound on Thanksgiving. I overindulge knowing the following day is either a holiday or at worst, a half day in the market. I'm done by 10am. And hey look! MORE FOOTBALL! ALL WEEKEND LONG!!!!

What do we get on Christmas? The Lakers? Neat.

The esteemed and sagacious Kutta gets it as always.

Conversely, it's very hard to get laid on Thanksgiving Day, what with all the coats on the bed and all...

Tough call, as a kid Christmas ruled and you guys are making valid points for Thanksgiving.

I picked Labor Day as it is the final celebration of all the fun summer brings. The killer B's- beach, bikinis, beer, BBQ and boats. Labor Day also kicks off Fall- football and something about the crisp fall air and changing of the seasons.

Other: Triduum+Easter.

Awesomness and the mystery of the passion, death, and resurrection of the Lord followed by 50 days of holy partying. Nothing comes close, or has for years for me.

Love Christmas for all the trees I can kill and all the eggs that I can give a good nogging to.

Voted 4th, but pretty much this.

Also, those are the 3 times a year to stock up on charcoal.

 spending a few days to a week in someone else's home, sleeping in the same room as the kids, sucks. We started as bad tradition of traveling every year and every year I tell myself "never again, next year we will either stay home or do Disney" just to do it again next year.

Voted the 4th over thanksgiving. Turkey day is a lot of work to put the meal together, and I have to help. On the fourth, we bbq, swim, and set off and watch fireworks. it's just simply fun.

Pretty compelling case here.
