Need a little help from you guys. Since there are several list threads going, I thought I was ask you to list the 4 or 5 best lakes in the state you live in.

Texas for example might be:

Canyon Lake

Lake Travis

Lake Texoma

Lake Lewisville

Lake Amistad

Possum Kingdom is better than Lake Lewisville

Mullet Lake

Higgins Lake

Lake Superior

Lake Huron

Lake Michigan

You'd take Mullet over Burt?
I would calmly discuss it.
I like Houghton over Higgins

Superior - too cold.

I live right on Erie, very under rated lake IMO

Michigan is the best IMO
Erie is too dirty.

Higgins Lake is awesome, deep and beautiful. My cabin is near Houghton Lake and I go all the time, but it's not my kind of lake. If you like water sports and stuff, you can't beat it though.

In Missouri, there is Lake of the Ozarks, but only if you have an 80 ft yacht...otherwise you'll capsize from the waves made by the other 80 ft yachts. Basically the lake for rich St. Louis and KC folks and the wild and crazy kids at Party Cove.

Also there is Table Rock Lake, the little brother to LotO, but it is just as fun and a much better crowd. Gets a little full on holiday weekends, but a great lake...more family friendly.

Then there is Truman Lake and some little ones like Pomme De Terre which are primarily for fishing.

I was actually surprised how nice this place was, just awesome.

Best lake for what?
The original poster is in a state with ONE NATURAL LAKE.

All the other ones are to make sure people don't die from drought. So what is the best lake in your state that prevents people from dying?

It's probably because the company we are with, but Seneca trumps the rest by several country miles.

Very good point. Agree.

Spent a handful of weekends here 20 or so years ago and it was an incredible time. Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day were just massive parties.

Nowadays it's Lake Michigan for me. Lots of great towns on the shores of Lake Michigan. Torch Lake is real nice too

Hanging Lake

Trapper Lake

Brainerd Lake

Bear Lake

Dream Lake

Maroon Lake

These are a few of my favorites - a few others not as picturesque that mean more to me - but I'd put these all on a must see list

Our family used to spend vacations in West Michigan in some of those towns - sand dunes and the lakes along the shore were a blast - then we would take the ferry boat over to Wisconsin and go into Door County - all of it really underrated places to relax

Toxic Algae

Goose droppings

Plastic at record levels

You can keep it, give me the upper great lakes or the inland lakes.

:goodposting:

Love Michigan beach towns. Saugatuck to Montague is my favorite stretch but the hits just keep coming if you venture further north.

Unfortunately it's pretty much smack in the middle of the migrating birds pattern. I heard a number one time but can't remember what it was, but the estimated amount of bird #### in that lake is mind-boggling.

Also rated for worst water quality beaches in the country in 2013. Maybe you found a good spot, but I think Erie is generally the lake that takes all the ####...literally.

Florida:

Okeechobee

Istokpoga

Kissimmee

Tohopekaliga

Weohyakapka

Eta: I've only been to 2 of those. The rest I picked because they're easy to remember.

Minnesota:

Lake Superior

Lake Vermillion

Lake of the Woods

Lake Minnetonka

Mille Lacs Lake

(or pick from any of the other 11,837 lakes)
The Midwest is phenominnal.

There are more than 11,000 inland lakes, 5 acres in size or larger, in Michigan. According to the Michigan Historical Society, one is never more than 6 miles from an inland lake or more than 85 miles from one of the Great Lakes.

Which 2? I fish a couple of these as well as the Caloosahatchee River. I always really liked getting drunk and floating and/or tire swinging into swimming in the springs in North FL when I lived up there.
