I'd like to hear some posters talk about their favorite team and a player that was drafted by your team that turned out to be a nice surprise.Maybe a guy that when he was picked made you think to yourself "What the ______", "Who in the world is he?", or a guy who was drafted late that was able to outproduce some guys on the team who were drafted earlier.

I guess for the Redskins I'd have to go with Rock Cartwright in the 7th round in 2002. The late rounds have not been their strongest rounds. But, Rock has filled in nicely at RB on occassion and excels on special teams coverage.

Local team: Jared Allen, no doubt. Steal at pick 126Fave: Reuben Droughns @ 81? Dirt Davis @ 144? For a late round steal we have to go back to 1995, Cory Schlesinger pick 192. (Wow, that's sad)

The obvious choice for the Steelers would Willie Parker but he went undrafted so I am not sure he counts. Therefore I would say that 2002 7th round pick DE Brett Keisel (taken with the 31st pick in that round).Keisel is rotated in for Kimo and has really blossomed into a very good defensive end this season.

Bobby McCray DE in the 7th round a couple years ago. Had 5 or 6 sacks this year in limited time as a pass rush specialist. Derrick Wimbush- undrafted, Kickoff return and fullback when Greg Jones is playing RB.

I have to admit, any time you can get a KR specialist that can play FB, I likey.

Umm...Tom Brady picked in the 6th in 2000 by the Pats? That was a pretty good late round pick.

As a Bills fan, I'd say Jason Peters. Signed with the Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent on 4/26/04Now the starting right tackle

I like the Keisel call.Others:Ike Taylor in the 4th (03)Larry Foote in the 4th (02)Clark Haggans in the 5th (00)Carlos Emmons in the 7th (96)

Terrence Holt is the only recent Lions' late round pick (5th) to become a starter, and he's a fringe starter. If we can go all the way back to 95, Cory Schlesinger in the 6th was a hell of a bargain.

Jermaine Phillips has worked out well for the Bucs. Ryan Nece was undrafted. Believe Ellis Wyms was a 6th-rd pick as well. Bucs always do very well with late-round picks for their defense.

My thoughts exactly, and Matt Cassell looks like he could turn out too, though likely not for the Pats. James Sanders played nice at the end of this season.

Dan Koppen in the 5th in 03.

I also like Tully Banta-Cain. Very good special teamer, but he never steps into the full time. If not LB, safety? He can play football, just where?

Everyother example fails in comparison to this one. Lead his team to 3 Superbowls in his first 4 years in the league? 6th rounder? I am not even a Pats fan!.Like the matt Birk example as well

Brady is an obvious, but the Pats have had a few other solid late round picks lately:Dan Koppen - 5th roundDavid Givens - 7th roundPatrick Pass - 7th round

The obvious answer is Antonio Gates as a FA. Of the players actually drafted, I'd have to go with Michael Turner in the late 5th round. The guy has shown that he's a very solid fill-in for LT. Shane Olivea was an outstanding 7th round pick who has been able to start at RT since opening day as a rookie.

Donald Driver in the 7th...Tauscher in the 7th...Damn I miss what Ron Wolf could do in the later rounds...

Patrick Pass - 7th round
You can throw in Troy Brown in the 8th, although that's going back a few years.

I'd have to agree here. The Skins have been notoriously bad with their second-day picks, which is probably why they've been trading them away the last few years. In the last 15 years we have only found 4 impact players after round 3:1998: Shawn Barber 113

1996: Stephen Davis 102

1993: Frank Wycheck 160

1991: Keenan McCardell 326

On the Jets there have been quite a few good 2nd-day picks:Erik Coleman (5th) - starting FSJason Ferguson (7th) - but he's a Cowboy nowAdrian Jones (4th) - starting LTCedric Houston (6th) - started after Martin got hurt last yearKerry Rhodes (5th) - starting SSBut of course, the all-time favorite is Wayne Chrebet, who was undrafted out of Hofstra.

2004 - Courtney Anderson 7th round - 44th pick - 245 overall He's been a decent TE so far. Looks to get better.2003 - Doug Gabriel 5th round - 32nd pick - 167 overall Quality WR

Seahawks....2005 - 3.34 LB Leroy Hill2004 - 3.21 OT Sean Locklear, 6.24 DT Craig Terrill2003 - 7.08 K Josh Brown2002 - 5.11 DT Rocky Bernard, 5.34 TE Ryan Hannam2001 - 4.33 OT Pork Chop Womack, 5.09 WR Alex Bannister (Special teams)2000 - 3.18 WR Darrell Jackson

Dallas may have gotten the steal of the draft with Chris Canty last year.

he has 1st round talent for sure.

:excited:
Depends on how you judge it. The Texans got a pro-bowler in the 4th round last year. I personally wouldnt make that argument, just putting it out there.

Renalydo Hill, a 7th round pick who started most of the year for the Titans, would get my vote as the steal of the draft.
