Bush, 2 touches, 115 yds, 2 TDs

Bush>>>>>>Peterson...as a college RB
Edited.
:lmao: No, as a football player.
As talented as Bush is, I don't see how any team would prefer him over Peterson - who has franchise back written all over him. Bush has some big questions to answer about his ability to carry the ball 20 times a game in the NFL and his blocking.
I guess you didn't see the pancake he laid on the only USC return tonight huh? Oh, and Bush added 5 lbs this year vs last for all you guys who are so stuck on the weight thing.
C'mon, it was Arkansas. Just look at the team he's on compared to Peterson - of course he should be dominating. I just don't think he'll the ideal back for the NFL, though a team could do well using him like Westbrook - or Marshall Faulk if you prefer.
Funny, I don't recall any of you Peterson backers givning a dang about how good supporting casts were last year when Peterson's was every bit, maybe better, than ANYONE elses in the country.

Bush had 2 td's yesterday the 1st 2 times he touched the ball. I rushing for 70 yds and the other a 730 yd catch :hey:
Yep, Bush looks good alright, can't help but wonder how much is attributable to the team though. I mean, when everyone on the team must be accounted for, and you have the best QB in the nation, you are in a much better position to make big plays. I think he'll be a very good NFL player, but could be overhyped if he lands on a team less able to give him space.
OZ, I was at that game. Yes, he's on a good team, but when he touches the ball seemingly no one touches him. If he gets a step, he's gone. Arkansas had some fast defenders like every squad does and they were clearly baffled by his speed. For those who say he can't compete in the NFL as a RB, I give you Marshall Faulk. Bush is actually a bit heavier than Faulk. I don't see why his size would be a problem.

One thing that is obvious when you watch games is just how much better Bush is than everyone no the field, including his own USC teammates.

We saw how equal the talent was in the title game. USC >>>>> OU

How does Vince Young from Texas fit into this. I really don't watch much college football, but does he look like the 2nd QB to get drafted after Leinhart? I assume he's a lock for the first round. Are there any other opinions.
IMHO, Omar Jacobs and Vincent Young figure to be primary competition for Leinart as the #1 QB prospect in the 2006 draft. Leinart probably has the most polish in terms of being an NFL quarterback, but Young certainly has a higher ceiling athletically and who knows what might happen when these guys hit the workout circuit and go into the combine. I don't see Jacobs overtaking Leinart, but he might be a better value on draft day if he falls later in the first round (great talent and potential, smaller signing bonus and financial outlay). That said, I have a feeling that come March/April, Jacobs could be in the mix near the top of the draft. Reggie McNeal and Vincent Young are more intriguing though if you like the DAZZLE factor. Then in 2007 Chad Henne might emerge as one of the top prospects if not the top guy.
Unless Leinart does something to drop his stock, there's no competition as far as I'm concerned. Whoever gets him now is getting a very mature QB who should be able to step in rather quickly and play. Jacobs has all the tools to be successful but he plays mainly in a shotgun offense and will take time to adjust to the NFL. Vince Young on the other hand needs to show that he can throw the ball effectively before he's even considered as a 1st round pick.

Whoever takes Vince Young... if they plan on playing him at QB, they're going to have to spend some time teaching him the proper throwing motion. Right now, it's relatively inaccurate and susceptible to a lot of batted passes despite standing 6'5".

Lawrence Maroney will be the first player taken in almost all dynasty league rookie drafts in 2006. That is a given, barring injury.

That is in no way a "given" IMO. Let's see where these guys end up and let's also not forget that Minn is a rushing factory right now much like USC is an offensive factory. That Minn Oline is full of STUDS.

Anyone who passes on Maroney because of who drafted him, will be making a BIG mistake. Talent wins out in most cases, and Maroney is a beast. I can see where teams desperate for a staring RB would take a Deangelo Williams or Reggie Bush first if they are drafted in favorable situations, but like I said, it would be a mistake long term. Maybe I'm biased because I live in Minnesota and have seen a lot Maroney.

I have made it a point to watch Maroney this year and will be watching the Minn/PSU game this weekend in great detail. IMO, Maroney is not as talented as Bush. Different styles and strengths though so I can see either being #1 depending on situation and town.

DeAngelo Williams is the 5th leading rusher in the country, and every team he faces knows whats coming. Still posts 6.9 yards per carry. He's better than Maroney, Peterson, or Bush IMO.1. Williams2. Bush3. Peterson4. MaroneyComparing him to Leinart is apples to oranges.*edit* I take that back about Maroney. Dissapointing today. I'll make him 4th on this list.

i'll take Omar Jacobs over Lineart and Vinced Young. he's got everything u want in an NFL QB, very strong/accurate arm, 6'5 230 size, with mobility. he just looks like the best out there. incredible prospect out of BG. i hope the Lions get him :)

After watching Bush yesterday, I don't know which way to go between him and Peterson. Peterson is your prototype back, but the things Bush can do are amazing (even with his skinny legs ;) ). I'm not sure about DeAngelo yet, though he seems like a solid all-around back.

Finally seeing the light.

Last year, I thought Bush was headed towards being an Eric Metcalf type of NFL player. While he had electrifying skills, I thought he was a lightweight in that he was tackled too easily to be a serious NFL RB. Since he added weight and strength this past offseason, he hasn't lost a step at all but he's much more difficult to bring down and he runs strong in addition to running fast. I think he's another Marshall Faulk in the making.

I'm not sold on Leinart and frankly, he's playing from ahead which usually means the microscope will be out in full force as NFL personnel members look for reasons NOT to take the guy.I would still think he'll end up as a top 3 pick, probably first overall. But there are at least 8-10 players I could envision carrying higher post Combine grades than Leinart on many draft boards.

 Of course team need could override value, but I think Leinart is far and away the #1 pick at this point. USC will have to lose 2 games, and Leinart perform poorly, to fall to #2.

I don't disagree Gunz, but it's not always a great idea to be "the guy" so early on in the process. It makes teams more inclined to look for the "other" guy who might be better but less heralded. At the end of the day, as long as Leinart has solid measurables at his Pro Day (he won't workout at the Combine IMHO), he'll still go 1-2; but stranger things have happened.

BTW, I voted Peterson. He has the best comination of size, measureables, and vision in college right now, despite his somewhat pedestrian numbers thus far this year.Love Reggie Bush (I think he'll be a great pro), but Peterson is on another level. We're talking Herchel Walker/Bo Jackson type size and ability.

Lendale White is going to be a great pro back IMHO. Bush is too talented to not get his shot despite less than ideal size, but White would be a 2,000 yard collegiate rusher in the right program if the job was his alone IMHO.

I agree that being "the man" early doesn't help - the added scrutiny usually results in a lot of talk about the negatives. At this point last year, Aaron Rogers >>>>>> Alex Smith.I just disagree that it'll happen to Leinart.

Is there any QB in the nation you'd rather have QBing your team on third and long than Chris Leak right now? That guy has solid steel cajones.
:goodposting: I can think of a few.

What a joke.

Oh yeah, I automatically forgot that a bad game automatically turns a good player into a bad player *COUGH COUGH ADRIAN PETERSON 3 YARDS PER CARRY TCU COUGH COUGH*.Hmmm... Alabama... TCU... Alabama... TCU... one of them finished second in the nation in defense last year and returned 9 senior defensive starters... the other, well, the other is TCU. Besides, did you watch the game, or are you just reading stat lines? Kinda tough playing QB when your offensive line is doing its best Houston Texan impersonation.

I've said all season that Florida is overrated because people are expecting second year production from a first year offense. Doesn't change the fact that Chris Leak is the best QB in the SEC by a longshot.

By the way, I think the Prothro story is going to be told by coaches for years counseling against running up the score. Up 28, Alabama goes for it on 4th and 5, throwing deep to the end zone in an OBVIOUS attempt to run up the score, and lose their biggest playmaker on offense for the season. Sometimes, karma is a real #####.

Why do people say Bush has less then ideal size? People talk about him like he's a midget or anorexic or something. He's not a monster, but he's got more then enough size (and room to build up) to be an NFL RB. Tiki Barber is doing just fine and he's smaller then Bush.

To the handful of people saying Omar Jacobs, are you saying this because of his guady stat lines or have you actually watched him play? I'm just curious, because every time I've watched him, I've never come away thinking he was a top notch NFL prospect. But at the end of the day, the numbers were outstanding. Can't really put my finger on it. Maybe it's his delivery or the gimmicky offense, but I just don't see it.

Do you still think Leak has only had 1 bad game?

I voted other and here's my guy:

Lawrence Maroney. I have been hyping this guy like a mother since his freshman year. He is, in a word, electric. While Bush and Peterson get all the publicity from playing on the best teams in the nation, Maroney has done more with less than either of these two guys. Splitting time with Marion Barber III (now with the Cowboys) Maroney has managed to rack up 2,500 yards and 22 touchdowns. Oh, and he's a junior. He has thirteen 100-yard games (including 7 in a row) and is averaging 6.5 YPC for his career.

When this guy gets out into the open field, he is simply dangerous. Amazing vision and a smooth, gliding style that remind me of footage from Gayle Sayers.

Unsure if he comes out or not this year, but IMO, I think this guy has THE most pro potential of any player in the country right now.
I voted Other because of Maroney as well.

I only got one vote, but I like two others. Maroney and P.J. Daniels from GT. Highest draft picks? Probably not with the lack of urgency in the NFL for RBs, but best prospects. And, are we only talking offensive skill positions? My third vote is for the 'Brick.

Yes, I was trying to keep it to the skill guys due to this being a FF board.

I watched him last night with the intent of playing amateur scout. He enjoys the same ridiculous protection and time to throw that Leinart does. It is very hard to judge a college QB who just sits back for 6-7 seconds and waits for an open receiver. The gimmicky offense doesn't let you observe his drops and footwork. There's something lazy about the way he plays-- some might call it calm or poise though. I have read very good things about his arm despite the 3/4 delivery and last night was ho hum for me. There were a couple NFL throws mixed in with a whole lot of lobs to the open player. He seemed comfortable going through projections, but he had so much time it isn't realistic to apply that to NFL reads. I never saw him look off a safety or bait a corner with a pump fake. Overall I was unimpressed, but it isn't really Omar's fault. That is a very QB friendly system. I'm not high on Leinart and Omar looked like the exact same guy to me.

Bump, anyone still voting Peterson?
:hey:
Well I originally voted Leinart, but after this season (which isn't totally over yet) I am going to have to change my vote to Bush. This guy really is on another level physically. His TDs have averaged something like 35 yds a pop! I was thinking that Maroney could give him a puch, but no that isn't happening. Peterson has a LOOOOONG way to go if he is going to be a better prospect than Bush IMO. Other than size, Bush is superior to him in nearly every facet. When there are rumors of teams like Hou (who should be killing for Oline help in this draft) taking Bush #1 overall, you know you've got a special player.

I have the luxury of loving them both. You haven't and won't read me saying anything negative about Reggie Bush. I've been watching him for a long time, and even saw him in high school once. He's awesome. He'll be an excellent pro. He'll be the most exciting player in the league if used right. If I was a GM with the first pick, screw trading down and team needs, I want this kid on my team. Period.

I just cannot get a few of AP's runs out of my head. He has phenomenal power and pure break away speed. A very fine line separates the two in my thinking, and I like AP's power a little more for NFL value than Bush's open field skills. The field gets much smaller at the next level.

Either would be a great addition to any team.

unfounded....

not if A Peterson comes out...
Peterson can't come out until 07. Maroney had a lot of supporters in September, but I think it's pretty clear that Reggie Bush and DeAngelo Williams will be 1-2 in most dynasty drafts. The teams that draft them could change things, but Reggie should be #1 regardless, imo.

My original vote was Bush and I stand by it. Peterson is one of the most upright runners I've ever seen and something about him looks stiff. He's a horse though, I wouldn't pass him up if I needed a RB and was drafting for a NFL team. But I don't see him being a special prospect like Bush is.

I've brought up the same thing about Jacobs in a couple of other threads. His throwing motion is just awful. And if the defense just blitzes him, he doesn't seem to know what to do. Some NFL team is going to draft him high because of his size and stats, but they are going to be mighty disappointed.

If anyone wants a good look at one of the best junior RB's in the country, Garrett Wolfe is shredding a good Western Michigan team on ESPN2 right now. 160 yards and 3 TD's in the first half.Northern Illinois is definitely a RB-friendly offense, but Wolfe has got some wheels on him.

This isn't even close. Bush averages close to NINE YARDS PER CARRY and TEN YARDS EVERY TIME HE TOUCHES THE BALL (RUNS/RECEPTIONS). Ten yards per touch = OFFICIALLY UNSTOPPABLE!

NFL Draft Scouts recently updated RB rankings...

2006 Draft Class

1. DeAngelo Williams, Memphis - 1st round

2. Joe Addai, LSU - 1st round

3. Brad Smith, Missouri - 1st/2nd

4. Leon Washington, FSU - 1st/2nd

5. Andre Hall, South Florida - 2nd/3rd

2007 Draft Class

1. Reggie Bush, USC - 1st round

2. Laurence Maroney, Minnesota - 1st round

3. LenDale White, USC - 1st round

4. Lorenzo Booker, FSU - 1st round

5. Maurice Drew, UCAL - 1st round

Wow. He is very good. Awful small, but very good. He just got his 5th TD and it was very impressive. If they don't pull him in the fourth quarter he's going way over 300 yards.
