Best way to transform into a Contract league? (1 Viewer)

My league is interested in converting into a contract league from a straight re-draft league and I was considering the best way to transform into such a league?

Contract leagues we feel is the way to go in deciding who has the best GM skills while maintaining some coherence from year to year w/o the static rosters that result in Dynasty leagues. However, the drawback is that when forming a new contract league a great deal of the inital auction can play a huge roll in the future direction of the league. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but in my league of 12 only myself and 1 other owner has had an experience in an auction league or some type of dyntasy league. My worry is that in our inaugural auction, those without much experience will be way in over there heads which could impact the league for the next couple of years.

We'd like to get the basis of the league started this year, so is there any ideas of how to handle contracts in order to mitigate the impact of inexperience in the inaugural year?

Goals would be in the inaugural year would be to give people experience handling contracts, taking part in an auction, and so forth while having a solid foundation for next season (ie not having to redo the whole inaugural draft.).

My initial ideas-

Everyone on 1 year contracts, at the end of the year teams can choose to extend an X amount of contracts following league rules.

Max contracts to 2 years instead of the planned 5.

Any other thoughts or experience with starting a contract league or changing over to one would help. Thanks guys.
