Best/Worst Presidents since 1970 (1 Viewer)

Who was the best President since 1970?

I voted George W. Bush worst and Clinton best, but figuring out the worst was easier. Clinton was almost the best by default, with H.W. Bush probably #2.

I went by shape of the country when he left and my own personal situation,

Best Clinton

Worst,by far, Dubya(and I'm a lifelong Republican)

I thought about adding under/overrated into the poll but thought it would have gotten a little too long.

My underrated would have been H.W. Bush, overrated Reagan

Voted Reagan (best) and George W. Bush (worst.)

There are plenty of things I don't like about Ronald Reagan, but he was a great President. I don't believe that Presidents are responsible for doing all that much- they are shaped heavily by the times they live in, and much of what we think of as accomplishments were either dependent on Congress, or a reaction to a crisis. Conservatives laud Reagan for "winning" the Cold War and for changing the direction of our economy by cutting taxes. I dispute that he had much to do with the first, and the second may actually have hurt us more in the long run, according to many economists. But I still make Reagan #1 because he gave optimism to the public, and made us feel good about ourselves and our country at a time when we were not feeling good- that puts him up there with FDR and JFK as the three "feel good" Presidents of all time. We haven't really had such an optimist since; I thought Obama might be the guy but he has not been. FDR, JFK, and Reagan lifted the public's spirits, and this makes him over and above the rest.

I hate putting W at the bottom because he did a lot of good things for a lot of people, and tried to much more and failed. I think he's a decent guy. But the decision to invade and occupy Iraq has been so costly, so catastrophic to our interests in the region, our security at home, the economy, etc., with negative ramifications that will be with us for decades to come. Ultimately, W is responsible for this decision, the worst single decision by any President in the post World War II era. And that puts him clear at the bottom, with really no competition.

Once heard, and agree with the line that Jimmy Carter is/was "the best ex-president we ever had."

There are certainly some laudable aspects to his ex-Presidency. But they are overwhelmed with his incompetence, stupidity and outright malevolence with regard to foreign affairs. I think Carter, while not at all a good President, has proven to be an even worse ex-President. Easily the worst in my lifetime.

Carter was a good man and I think a decent president, he just wasn't a great leader. His 1979 Crisis of Confidence speech was better than anything that came out of the mouth of Bush, and perhaps the best non-Clinton speech since 1970.

I've never understood the Reagan as BEST President. Personally, I always liked Reagan. He reminded me of my grandfather. He was also the first President I voted for in the 1984 election. But...

1) He secretly funded a war for the direct purpose of overthrowing a sovereign government. This was in direct violation of the Boland Amendment.

2) He traded arms for cash (to fund that war) and hostages with the government of Iran. This wasn't a couple of guns he gave them, but more than 2500 missiles. Let that sink in for a moment. We made a deal with the Aya-#######-tolla- weapons for some cash to fund an illegal war and hostages.

3) And Reagan did this AFTER these ####ers blew up the barracks in Lebanon killing 200+ service men and women. And his response to that bombing (besides giving them 2500 missiles) - nothing. We pulled out of Lebanon.

4) If not the seeds certainly the fertilizer for the rise of terrorist organization and their leadership in the 1990's likely came as a result from these actions.

This is not to disparage the man. And I am very empathetic towards him suffering with Alzheimer's in the last years of his life.

In this poll I voted Clinton as best and Bush II as worst.

In real life I never voted for Clinton and I voted for Bush in 2000.

Sigh. Make your polls match your topic people. If you put Best/Worst in the title, then that is the order the polls should be in.

In that case, I'd have to vote for Nixon. I was one happy baby.

otherwise, Obama. I'm better off today than I was in 2008.

Gotta go with the one that did nothing for me and the one that made my bank account the most money. Bush is the loser, Obama is the winner.

Clearly the person who said that had not seen W's paintings.
I will say that I heard that before the W paintings!

Reagan ran away with his tail between his legs when hundreds of our men were killed in Lebanon and then worked under the table to get Iran weapons.

Sickening.
