Watched both recently for the first time in forever. Tough call.
I guess I asked two different questions. Maybe it's possible to like one movie more but say the other is a better movie?Ferris is the better movie, no question on that, but maybe because the question is "which do you like more?" I voted Stripes. What I don't like about Stripes is the last quarter of the movie where it becomes one of those dumb series of explosives blowing up etc. what I do like about is John Candy and the timing between Ramis and Murray, and also Sgt. Hulka. So while I respect Ferris the movie and enjoy it if it was on at the same time as Stripes I would watch the latter, today.
I guess I just assumed people would like the better movie, in their opinion, more than the other one.Yes, I think so.
He did that throughout the film.Went with Ferris because of the ending credits where he breaks the fourth wall,
True. I just remember everybody was really up for the device they used in the credits. Biggest laugh at the theater I was at. He definitely addressed the audience as a narrative device throughout, but if you stuck around, him waving at you to go home was a little more direct and weirdly personal. He did that throughout the film.Went with Ferris because of the ending credits where he breaks the fourth wall,
stripes is almost like two completely different movies in one... I voted for it because I'm meh on Ferris, but while the first part of that movie is great, the end is just odd and doesn't seemingly fit with the rest of the movieFerris is the better movie, no question on that, but maybe because the question is "which do you like more?" Came in to post the same thing.Stripes has the lead until basic training ends. Then it runs out of gas.
Ferris works from beginning to end.
that's the bonus movie. Stripes was so good they put the sequel right into the first movie.Stripes has the lead until basic training ends. Then it runs out of gas.
Ferris works from beginning to end.
I really screwed this one up.If you hadn't specified it as an 80's movie, it would be tougher for me. Ferris Bueller is an 80's movie, Stripes doesn't identify with any decade per se.
Oh, come on!Mr. Mojo said:I never understood the love for Ferris, which I think is possibly the weakest John Hughes film. It is nowhere close to as good as Sixteen Candles or Breakfast Club. A dull main character and not very interesting sidekicks.
Stripes was an above average comedy.
That might be the strongest endorsement of Curly Sue I've ever seen.Oh, come on!Mr. Mojo said:I never understood the love for Ferris, which I think is possibly the weakest John Hughes film. You ever had the Aunt Jemima Treatment?Joe Summer said:Ferris might be the better movie, but Stripes has the better quotes:
"Lighten up, Francis"
"Convicted? No..."
"We're not homosexual, but we are willing to learn."
"That's the fact, JACK!"
"Black guys, help the white guys"
Also, Sgt. Hulka started the "Getting too old for this $#!t" meme wayyyyyy before Danny Glover did it.
