Better future deep ball combo (1 Viewer)

Which QB/WR combo will be completing more long bombs in the future? I think both of these pairs have a chance to show glimpses of Culpepper/Moss like chemistry,

Obviously CJ is already great, so he's got an edge on Russell and DHB. OTOH, the Raiders have been synonymous with the vertical passing game for decades, nobody has a stronger arm than Russell and no one's faster than DHB.

I'm hoping all four of these guys become players, because I think we've got the potential to see some really exciting bombs.

Stafford & Calvin with one arm tied behind his back (to make it a little closer)

Let's throw some numbers out there --

How many 40 yard completions from Stafford to CJ do you project over the next 5 years? How many 40 yard completions between Russell and DHB over the next five years?

How many 40 yard TD passes from Stafford to CJ? How many 40 yard TD passes form Russell to DHB?

Tough to answer. I don't see Russell being a starter in 5 years.

It doesn't really make sense to bet against Calvin Johnson here, since he's the only one who's shown anything up to this point (and he's shown a lot).

The issue here... is that Megatron is already a juggernaut. Everyone else is just a player in the NFL, thus far.We see crapy QBs throw the ball and Calvin just abuses the defenders anyway.
:goodposting: The QBs in question don't really mean anything compared to the fact that Calvin >>>>>>>> DHB in this example.

I think Stafford can kick more 40+ yarders than Russell and DHB will complete.

Projections

How many 40 yard completions from Stafford to CJ do you project over the next 5 years? 26

How many 40 yard completions between Russell and DHB over the next five years? 8

How many 40 yard TD passes from Stafford to CJ? 19

How many 40 yard TD passes form Russell to DHB? 5

Kind of hard to predict "bombs". Sort of like trying to predict how many kick returns for a TD a team gets. We can make a guess at which combo is likely to be better at it, but when you throw in the question of how long each combo lasts it becomes pure conjecture. To me the real question - which combo is likely to last the longest, or who will play together longer - Stafford/Johnson or Russell/Bey? Because I think they both have equal opportunity on a yearly basis for throwing "bombs".Both teams already have an established starter, one at QB, one at WR. Johnson is clearly more talented than all but 1 or 2 players at his position, and he's only played 2 seasons. The same can't be said for Russell, at best we can say he has been improving and might become one of the best at his position someday.Stafford and DHB were both drafted 1st at their position in a draft class arguably thin in elite talent compared to previous years. Both teams are struggling to put it gently and will likely be playing from behind equally.I give Stafford/Johnson the edge in longevity, mainly because I think both Stafford and Russell could flame out in a couple years while Johnson will likely have a greater career than DHB.So for me I would bet on Stafford/Johnson throwing more "bombs". But this is pure conjecture.

This.Calvin >>>>>>> DHB. Significant advantage to Detroit.Stafford compared to Russell? Even if Russell turns out better than Stafford, I don't see it being enough >'s to offset the advantage Calvin has on DHB.It takes more than speed to get open in the NFL. And it takes hands to haul it in. In the NFL you can't get open deep by just running fast, you have to set up the DB's (and the deep over top help) with great route running. With the knocks on DHB being his unpolished route running and his inconsistent hands, I'm betting on Stafford and Johnson.

This is what pisses me off the most about the most recent draft.

Fitz and CJ rated out as some of the best WRs coming out of college.... way better than DBH, yet they passed on them for Gallery and Russell. You would think that when CJ ran he would be an insta-lock for Davis but than Russell has to go and throw the #### out of the ball.

That's right. This isn't about Stafford or Russell it's about Calvin.

I am glad we have this "follows closely" thing on the sidebar so you can see who is posting an opinion and who is pimping their favorite team. Not that I am innocent in that regard either, but it helps show unbiased comments.

I'm just going to throw it out there that I predict that Brady/Moss will have more 40+ yard completions over the next few years than any other combo. No particular reason for doing this.

It seems to me there are a lot of negative feelings about DHB because of his draft position. If he had gone to Oakland somewhere in the 2nd round, I bet people wouldn't be as bitter about the whole thing, and might think to themselves that the guy has a chance to develop and become a good NFL WR. He certainly has the "tools", and it's NOT just the speed. Honestly, I have just as many concerns about Russell as DHB.

I'm not saying there aren't issues - there are. I just think Chase is setting you guys up here. I'd vote for CJ like almost everyone else, but I'm at least willing to consider the possibility that the Russell/DHB combo develops into something pretty good for fantasy.
