I think this is close with all things equal, but your scoring system makes this decision pretty easy, IMO.

Until Sanders proves that he can play 16 full games without getting wrecked, the big play potential and coverage stats Madieu will provide should make him really valuable in that system. The Bengals like to bring their safeties into the box interchangeably at times, so Williams should still get his 70 some odd solo tackles and he'll be brought on the blitz a couple times a game on average. Couple that with his centerfielding skills (3 picks and 11 PD in 2004), Williams should be money in this system.

I voted Sanders.... simply because I own him....

but I think either is a safe pick! Both have good potential.

anyone else got any thoughts.

A 15-15 tie is great but I'd like some of your thoughts on these two guys.

I have to make my decision later this week.

Thanks so far guys keep it up.

Since this vote has been so tight despite my strong feelings that it should be Madieu Williams easily in this scoring system, I decided to take a closer look at the stats.

Both have played 19 games. I assumed 6 points per INT (which may be low looking at your PD and sack points).

Madieu Williams 16.37 ppg

Bob Sanders 13.58 ppg

Both have been injured for parts of games and seasons. Both took time to settle into their full time roles - Williams as a corner for a couple of games, Sanders as a part timer.

Now, you can read this however you like. Sanders may make more tackles moving forward while Williams makes fewer than they have previously. But I think the big numbers awarded for coverage stats, of which Williams will likely always get the better of Sanders, makes this a pretty easy decision. IMO, to go with Sanders, you need to be very certain that Williams will not average 70 tackles a season. Otherwise, Williams gets the coverage stats to easily push this in his favor. Even more so if INT are worth more than 6 points as I've projected.

IMO Sanders is the more talented player, a deciding factor for me when players are close. I also believe eventually Sanders will be a SS, (natural position for him) could be as early as this season if Indy decides to moves Marlin Jackson from CB to FS (needs a CB to step up to fill Jackson shoes).

after watching bob sanders play a few games, there's no doubt in my mind he's one of those safeties who die-hards know about, but the average fan still doesn't. i guess that's what happens when you play on a team with peyton manning.

but once his name gets up there with palomalu, ed reed and sean taylor, this poll would be null and void.

i'm not hating on williams. he's an excellent safety as well. and i love the cincinnati bengals' defensive schemes. but one thing that keeps popping into my head when i pose the question of who i'd pick:

sanders has two games against the texans, two against the titans and i'm even going to say against jacksonville because i don't think it'll be long before leftwich gets hurt again and garard isn't going to sneak up on anyone again.

williams has two games against steve mcnair, ben rothlisberger and well, ok, he has two against whoever cleveland's gonna start.

I voted Williams. I think, of the two, he's more consistent and he's got the better history of big plays (sacks, int's etc.).

I'll admit I'm a bit jaded as I'm a Williams owner too but you're right, this is awfully tight.

The new kicker is (this is in RFA don't forget) if I match Williams contract the other owner is going to match my offer for Kurt Warner!

Currently I only have Culpepper and D Bree as QB's.

I need a third to start the season with and if either guys come back early I can trade Warner easily for DB help!!!

Damn what a decision I have to make hear!!!

Let Williams go and pick up Sanders and get your other QB. They are so close - its almost a close your eyes and throw a dart. Your going to end up darned if you do or darned if you don't. IMHO the longer you analyze the situation the harder it gets to decide. Go with your gut instinct.

 I got both and can't decide. Seems pretty even to me. (FWIW, I also have Schweigert and Parrish, I think I'm in for a headache deciding the starters)I was hoping to read this thread and walk away knowing which one is starting for me.

:lmao: I have to analyize it for 6 more days.I have till the 12th.

Sanders usually always stands out when you watch Indy play. His speed, and explosiveness are impressive.

FWIW ... PFW scouting report on Sanders back in 04 said: "if he was 3" taller he would be reguarded as a better prospect than Sean Taylor." Thats pretty impressive!

One drawback or concern if you will, other than his durability is: he is a natural in-the-box safety, the cover 2 scheme is not the best fit.

In the past, Indy has let their talented LB's go via free agency (Mike Petereson / David Thornton), if they use the same strategy with their DB's Sanders may have a new zip code in a coulple years.

For me, I just feel Sanders is the better player, the sytem and position (FS) he's playing is limiting his production/potential ... for now. IMO, he is the better long term prospect.

As many as I can get.

I have three more days till RFA ends.

Why not use all the time.

No one has made a single match or not match decision yet in a 12 team league.

Why not use all the resources I can.

I've got nothing but time here DOG!?! LOL

I think the point is that the FFB Universe does not revolve exclusively around your needs. You have many good responses and and even more poll votes. Be happy. Move on.

If anyone cares:

I was able to get a #1 pick out of a team for the rights to Bob Sanders and I matched the bid on Madieu Williams

I hope it all works out!

Thanks for all your help and input!!!!
