Better ROOKIE Year (1 Viewer)

These three have all had good camps, and everyone is starting to notice them even in redraft leagues. All have elicited multiple threads on these boards.

What do you guys think about these guys prospects both for this year and beyond. How would you rank them for this season and for a couple of years from now?

My feeling is that Jacoby Jones will quickly take over that number 2 WR position and will probably do well with Matt Schaub slinging the ball. I think 600 yards receiving is a distinct possibility.

The James Jones thing seems a bit trickier to project. You have some people thinking he will take over Greg Jennings job, while others feel this is a big stretch.

The Mike Walker buzz seems to have cooled off a little bit in the last few days, but he could have a decent rookie season. Unless he unseats Matt Jones as a starting Wr, I really don't think he will produce more than 350 or 400 receiving yards though. Best case is he gets rotated in and out along with Wilford, Jones, and Reggie Williams.

I rank them Jacoby, James Jones, and Mike Walker for this season.

3 years from now I think I might rank them James Jones, Mike Walker, Jacoby.

Walker has the most potential, but his knee will likely keep him from being full speed all year.

Im liking Jacoby right now, unless Jennings gets hurt, but all three have outstanding long term potential, as does another member of the monumental WR run of 07 - Laurent Robinson. Paul Williams needs to pick it up to catch up to these guys.

Honestly, unless there are injuries that give them opportunity, I don't think any of these guys will be worth owning this year. Long term, it is hard to predict but none of them have proven, high quality QBs to throw them the ball in the future.I think there is a lot of hype going on as people want to catch lightning in a bottle and pick up this year's "Colston." But the truth is that rookie years like Colton's are very rare, especially for a guy who was not picked in the first round. Also, Colston had Brees throwing him the ball.

Bloom,I seem to remember you being really high on Jason Hill as well. Seems like the hype on him has cooled off with the emergence of Arnaz Battle. Do you find yourself less enthused with him for this season? Or beyond?

James Jones - and easily . . .
He and Jacoby have really stood out from what I've seen, but Jacoby has Kevin Walter to beat out whereas James Jones has Greg Jennings. Though there's always the possibility the Driver loses time due to injury I suppose.

I just took him in the 3rd of a dynasty draft.
Good to know... Jacoby Jones has had his ups and downs (reports of some drops), but overall it seems like it's been more good than bad - I think he'll be a good one when it's all said and done. Is Kevin Walter going to keep this guy on the sidelines? Not for long, I think.Laurent Robinson, on the other hand, it seems like literally EVERYTHING I've read/seen on him has been positive. He doesn't have much competition to get on the field either. Both of those offenses (ATL & HOU) are shaping up to be pretty rough his year, though, so I would think James Jones (even as a #3 in GB) might have the best shot of putting up good fantasy numbers this year.

Hill might end up the most solid receiver of the third round group, but he hasn't "popped" the way the others have in camp so far.

I like them in this order in 2007...Jacoby Jones, James Jones, Mike Walker. I think Jacoby beats out Walter, if not by week 1, shortly therafter. James Jones looks to be the #3 in GB, I'd be suprised to see him over take Jennings barring injury.

Look for Houston to use Jacoby on a few reverses here and there to add to his yardage totals and possibly break one for a TD.

I read somewhere that the 49ers offense is a difficult one to learn. I agree that in the long run Hill still may be the most productive. You can't judge a career on half a rookie preseason.

What about Steve Smith (NYG) and Dwayne Jarrett? We've been hearing good things from camp on these guys, too. Smith caught a TD in preseason tonight. Many think he could end up at least WR3 behind Burress and Toomer, maybe even WR2 if Burress doesn't come back soon. And, Dwayne Jarrett has been mentioned often as being WR2, taking Keyshawn's place for the Panthers.

And, yes, I'm a Trojan homer and I think those guys *and* Mike Williams should be NFL stars. Yes, I know. I'm suspect now after the Mike Williams remark, but I think he's going to be much improved with the Raiders, especially now that Kiffin is coaching. (But, that's not on the subject of this thread.)

:( As the #3 WR in a pass friendly offense James Jones will be on the field quite a bit this year.

With regards to rookie WRs, not only do you have to look at how well they are picking up the speed and complexity of the pro game, but most importantly you have to look at who is throwing the rock. I'll take James Jones. He seems to have the best of both worlds.
