Another reason why Bell makes the ideal third down back for DEN.Dayne has a high of 11 catches in a season and has 26 total receptions in 5 seasons. He won't be seeing many targets this year.
Interesting. I thought I read somewhere early last season where the staff wasn't happy with Bell's pass-catching at one point.Dayne has a high of 11 catches in a season and has 26 total receptions in 5 seasons. He won't be seeing many targets this year.
That may well be true, but I highly doubt that they give Dayne many looks unless Plummer is staring a Mack truck in the face.Interesting. Bell: 18 receptions in 2005Dayne: 26 receptions in 6 year career. Not trying to start another "who is the man" thread. Just wanted to know who looks to catch more passes out of the backfield. Are either known for having good hands?
I totally agree. On third downs last year, Bell caught 3 passes from his 8 targets. I have maintained for a couple of years that Bell is not a good receiver or pass blocker. We will see .....
If I'm not mistaken, dayne caught just 1 pass his Sr. year at Wisconsin and not much since...he has stone hands..Dayne has a high of 11 catches in a season and has 26 total receptions in 5 seasons. He won't be seeing many targets this year.
I wouldn't go that far.Denver tried to install plays specifically for Bell last year as a receiving back. I remember seeing several attempted only to fail because Bell couldn't catch the ball. he's been working on it apparently, but the video I've seen of him in OTA still shows him bumbling the ball when he tries to catch it.Another reason why Bell makes the ideal third down back for DEN.Dayne has a high of 11 catches in a season and has 26 total receptions in 5 seasons. On those three catches noted above, one went for first down. Here is how each RB, since 2002, has fared on 3rd and 4th down. Bell does have a very good ypc on 3rd and 4th downs. This is from draw plays with many yards to go.On third downs last year, Bell caught 3 passes from his 8 targets. To point this out further, look at Bell's 10 ypc on 3rd and 4th down with 5 or more yards to go. For those too lazy to look it up, it is 10 ypc. 120 yards on 10 carries.

You are assuming no injuries. Do you think there might be a reason why Shanny wants to limit Bell's touches to 12-15 per game?Bell is a beast. Thread over.Nothing left to discuss.Dayne has a high of 11 catches in a season and has 26 total receptions in 5 seasons. He won't be seeing many targets this year.
Kyle Johnson. As far as how good of receivers they both are...Just wanted to know who looks to catch more passes out of the backfield.
Quotted for truth. This backs my post about Cecil Sapp and Kyle Johnson...yeah!!!!Kyle Johnson. As far as how good of receivers they both are...Just wanted to know who looks to catch more passes out of the backfield.

Last year, Bell had a 64% catch% (4th lowest out of the 53 backs ranked). He had a DVOA of -41.8%, 52nd out of the 53 backs ranked. The season before there's no data available, since he had fewer than 10 targets. Ron Dayne, on the other hand, hasn't had enough targets to qualify since 2002, when he caught a remarkable 91.7% of the passes directed his way, but was so ineffective once he caught it he still posted a -36.2% DVOA. However, in 2001, he managed to catch 72.7% and put up a very nice DVOA (29.2%).
Still, I really don't think either back is going to be a threat to get more than 20 catches, tops.
