Even though batting 1000 on these, it is from a 'sports betting' source and not any league or fantasy news. Sure once I am wrong on one of these, the haters will come out, but as of now......

Jay Glazer is reporting this as well (via Twitter):

''I'm reporting Big Ben OUT w concussion. dixon gets the start. ben was suffering from exercise induced headaches, team shut him down"

until confirmed by team or NFL, would just push the "doubtful" to really "doubtful". i use these lines alerts for middling purposes, but they tend to always be dead on.

WOW is right!.... Any info on Dixon.... I need to do some research.

Heres hoping that Dennis Dixon knows what Ward looks like.

I changed the title for now - what's the source please?

Never mind - Jay Glazer:

The Pittsburgh Steelers are turning to Plan B.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Steelers are sitting Ben Roethlisberger out of tomorrow's division matchup with the Ravens and Dennis Dixon will get the start.

Big Ben was suffering from exercise-induced headaches as the week progressed and the team's medical staff deemed him unfit for the contest.

The NFL this week launched a new initiative on concussions and is clearly trying to take a more conservative approach when it comes to head trauma.

Nice Job Johnny Detroit. More info that is spot on before anyone else has it.

i subscribe to paid lines services that feeds information into sportsbooks. nothing against fantasy sources, but injuries and lineup changes in terms of speed are more important to sports betting in comparison to fantasy. i work from home and leave it running all day, so when i see the pop up i try and post it here ASAP. pretty much 100% on anything i have shared going back almost 2+ years on FG. feel free to delete the link (don't want to to be called a spammer despite all the info i post here), but i sparse one of the streams and keep a running feed going: http://www.thesportsgambler.com/steam

No offense to anyone but Dennis Dixon??? The 3rd string QB? I understand Batch is OUT for the next 6 weeks too but Dixon???

Sure, it will be fun for owners to take a look at the ex-Duck but c'mon, no way this guy is ready to step on the NFL field and take control of a game, no less against Ray Lewis and the Ravens who prey upon inexperienced QBs. Sure, Pitt will try and run the ball but I think they have zero chance to win the game, and this will push them down to 6-5...Super bowl aspirations are fading quickly. Oh yeah, and hairboy is out on defense for Pitt too.

Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes, Heath Miller have about zero value this weekend. I would be shocked if Dixon could throw for more than 100-150 yds in this game.

I heard somewhere that they were bringing in Patrick Ramsey and Todd Bouman for workouts. I'm sure if they sign one (which they will have to do if Ben is out) they won't play much, but they were trying out these guys.

Its hard for any team in the NFL to lose two QBs in one week and recover.

I have no data to back this up, but aren't TE's usually a security blanket for back-up QBs?

:lmao: It's not like Pittsburgh was irresponsible and failed to plan for an injury. They just happened to have two in one week. They had a reliable backup w/ Batch and a "developmental" guy in Dixon, which is common for a 3rd stringer that rarely ever plays. What should they have done differently? There's no way you bring a street free agent in now and give them the start. Maybe next week if Dixon struggles and Big Ben is still out.

Yes - they were worked out on Thursday according to Dale Lolley: http://nflfromthesidelines.blogspot.com/20...ir-of-vets.htmlThe team also signed Tyler Palko to the practice squad earlier this week, but according to the common wisdom, he was brought in as a scout team arm while Dixon backed up Roeth.

How does Dixon starting affect the offense? I remember watching him play earlier this year and he looked "raw" to say the least. What are your thoughts on the Steelers now?

Not a criticism at all - just wanted to get the info here and the source. It is big enough news that I cared more about a source than an ad.Thanks for the heads up!

didn't take it that way  was just explaining it was not from a newspaper or nfl site, but rather alerts that go to sportsbooks so they can adjust lines and/or totals.

the line is down now offshore. so outside of fantasy, getting information on injuries allows you to get nice middles.

any suggestion on how to post without having an "official" source? even though they have been dead on, waiting on the day it is wrong and some guy benches ben and he plays. not wanting to go into protective services.

I'm excited for Dixon to get his first NFL start. It will definately be a challenge for him. I watched him this preseason and he looked okay. I think you guys will be surprised how well he does.

Fantasy stuff aside, it is good to see that Roethlisberger and the Steelers are being smart with this. Concussions and head injuries are nothing to fool around with, and sitting until he is symptom-free is the right thing to do.

plus i have a side bet on total points in my 1k fantasy league. 1000 at 3-1 and the guy giving me 3-1 has big ben. :)

As a Steelers and Big Ben fan, I am extremely happy that he is sitting out this game. Actually, I wouldn't mind it one bit if they sat him for the next game as well. We're talking about a guy's career and long-term health here. That is much more important than this single game even if it jeaopardizes their playoff chances. You don't mess around with head injuries.

Does this hurt the Steeler's chances of winning on Sunday night? It sure does. However, I honestly don't think they had a great chance to win even with a groggy Ben at qb. The Ravens are probably more desperate than the Steelers right now and they'll be playing in front of a home field crowd. This is a MUST win game for them. It absolutely is not for the Steelers. Even if the Steelers lose this game, I still think they can pull out 4 more wins in their last 5 games (Oakland, Cleveland, Baltimore, GB and Miami). That should be good enough to get them in as a wildcard. Big props to the Steelers organization and Big Ben for doing the right thing here!!!

It'll be very interesting to see how the Steelers do without the biggest part of their gameplan: the "let's not block anyone, let Ben run around, break free from 2 or 3 guys that have him in their grasp, and hit a big play to Hines after the defense breaks down" play.

We're about to find out just how valuable Ben is. Having an unsackable QB on a team that can't pass block is a pretty neat thing to have.

Is it possible for someone to win the MVP when their team misses the playoffs?

Ben won't be in the discussion for MVP regardless of what happens from here on out. Just too many other great candidates this year. I think the Steelers will obviously try to simplify the playbook and involve the running game more often. Perhaps this will be the wake up call that the coaching staff needed to get Mendenhall more involved in the game. The run blocking for the Steelers has actually been solid this season but for whatever reason the team just doesn't want to run the ball. The Ravens will do everything they can to shut down the run game so big play opportunities will be there. If Dixon can hit one or two big plays, the Steelers can stay in the game.

Wasn't Dixon having a Heisman type season when he got hurt?
Yep. He was the 2nd best dual-threat QB in the country behind Tim Tebow. 3rd best passer rating in the country. Completed 68% of his passes. 20 TDs, 4 INTs, 9 rushing TDs in only 9 games. He went down with a partially torn ACL in the 9th game, but insisted on coming back 2 weeks later. He gave it his best shot but ended up tearing the ACL completely.

This. Big Ben is going to have a life after the NFL. Let's keep up as healthy as possible. :hot:

No, it is all good. Glad you're cool with how I handled it.When you see info - just say where you got it from, even if it isn't a normal media source. It is what it is, and it is up to the reader to determine the validity.I will say that your track record will certainly speak for itself - and I'm sure other people will back up your reputation. Thanks again for the scoop.

Third best - behind Dan LeFevour and Tebow.

Actually he was THE best QB in 2007, he would have won the heisman if he hadn't gotten hurt. That being said, it will be interesting to see how he fares in the NFL.

Obviously, I'm a huge Oregon :) , but...Dixon has an EXCELLENT touch on the deep ball. I am very, very excited to see the best Duck QB in memory get a shot. He can pass out of the pocket as well as extend plays w/ his legs and passes on the run very well. He's been in the system for a couple of years now, so he should know the offense well. Granted, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis is not exactly how you want your first start, but this Baltimore Def is NOT the 2000 defense. I think Miller and Ward are both going to be great starts this week.

I really think he surprises you guys, in a good way.

Yup. He had it locked up until the injury. And the ACL was already torn before he tried to come back 2 weeks later. The doctors said he couldn't make it any worse than it was, so they allowed him to try to play on it.
