Big RBs Go Down-Pickups? (1 Viewer)

So of these guys, who do you think is worth picking up the most? This is absolutely NOT an AC thread...I already grabbed Snelling, Forsett, and Scott. All of them have very interesting matchups coming up.

Justin Forsett, RB SEA

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP)—Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones(notes) left Sunday’s game against Arizona early in the first quarter with a chest injury.

Jones carried the ball twice for 10 yards. His departure left Justin Forsett(notes) as Seattle’s primary back.

It was not immediately known if he would return or not.
Forsett performed admirably in Jones' absence, with 123 rush yards, 1 TD, and 5 rec for 26 yards. Looks to be a big time guy down the stretch with a couple of easy matchups like TB, and seems pretty talented.Remaining Schedule: MIN, STL, SF, HOU, TB, GB, TEN(17)

Jason Snelling, RB ATL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—Atlanta running back Michael Turner’s(notes) hot start was derailed Sunday when he left in the second quarter with a sprained right ankle in the Falcons’ 28-19 loss to Carolina.

Coach Mike Smith(notes) said Turner will undergo tests Monday to determine if he’ll be out an extended period.

“I think we’ll have a lot better idea when we get him back to Atlanta,” Smith said.

Turner entered the weekend seventh in the NFL in rushing and had surpassed 100 yards early in the second quarter against the Panthers. But he rolled his ankle while being tackled at the end of a 10-yard run near the goal line.

Turner took off his shoe and walked around some on the sideline before walking to the locker room. He didn’t return, finishing with 111 yards on just nine carries, and said after the game he didn’t know how long he would be out.

With Jerious Norwood(notes) (hip) also sidelined and Aaron Stecker(notes) released Saturday, the Falcons were left with only Jason Snelling(notes). He rushed for 61 yards and a 1-yard touchdown on 18 carries.

“I practiced for this situation,” Snelling said. “So when I went out there I was prepared and ready to go.”
When Turner left the game, after what looked like what was becoming a huge day on the ground, Snelling came in and had 61 rush yds, 1 TD, and 3 rec for 32 yards.Remaining Schedule: NYG, TB, PHI, NO, NYJ, BUF, TB(17)

Bernard Scott, RB CIN

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Cincinnati Bengals rushing leader Cedric Benson(notes) was pulled during the second quarter of Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh with an unspecified hip injury, returned for one series, then left the game.

After Benson was treated at halftime, the Bengals said he was not expected to return to the game.

Benson was replaced by Bernard Scott(notes) in the second quarter during a drive in which Cincinnati went three and out, not long after Scott scored on a 96-yard kickoff return. Benson came back for the next series just before halftime.

Benson had three 100-yard games in his previous four starts and began the game second in the NFL with 837 yards rushing. He had 22 yards on seven carries before leaving.
Scott had 33 rushing yards, a 21 yd rec, and a TD on a return.Remaining Schedule: OAK, CLE, DET, MIN, SD, KC, NYJ(17)

Ricky Williams, RB MIA

I know that Williams probably isn't available, but how much does he stand to benefit if Brown's out for a lengthy period? Who else helps with the Wildcat? Williams received a season high 20 carries IIRC.

Update: Brown suffered what the South Florida-Sentinel said appears to be a serious right ankle injury during the third quarter of Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.

Recommendation: Whether that’s the case or not, the Dolphins play the Panthers Thursday night, which gives Brown a short recovery window even if his ankle injury isn’t as bad as feared.
Williams had 20 carries for 102 yards, and 2 rec for 5 yards. No scores. Remaining Schedule: CAR, BUF, NE, JAC, TEN, HOU, PIT(17)

It's my opinion that Turner's injury isn't that bad. He was walking on it on the sidelines, IIRC.

Brown looked like he was in a lot of pain, and I didn't see the Benson injury. I didn't see Jones either.

Well you might want to see this then.Michael Turner will undergo an MRI Monday on his injured right ankle.

Turner was in a boot after Sunday's loss, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the injury "could be serious." The ankle doesn't appear to be broken, but there were initial indications that Turner may have a high ankle sprain. He did not return in the second half, which is never a good sign. Owners should prepare to be without Turner for at least one week. Nov. 15 - 6:25 pm et

Thanks for the contribution! So my totally unprofessional opinion is likely incorrect regarding an injury...bet nobody could have guessed that one!

Seriously though, that's somethin we should all know. Bumps Snelling up in my book.

I think one of these teams signs LJ. He's available on my WW, I'm just not sure if he would be a better p/u than one of these you mentioned.

Already a rumor going around that Philly is lookinhg at LJ...If I had to say LJ was going to one of these teams, I would bet on ATL...Snelling has been Questionable, they released Stecker, and Norwood is out as well. Or Seattle, they lack RBs too. Cincy has Leonard and Scott though, and Miami has Polite, Ricky, the option to pass more, and Hilliard IIRC

Forsett and Rankin looked fantastic against a pretty good Run Def... My guess is they stay pat.

Personally I don't think any of these teams picks up LJ, but since somebody asked I speculated. Good point there, forgot about Rankin.

Forsett looked the best of the bunch today. While they need a power compliment, I can see him taking the job and running with it. He reminded me a lot of Warrick Dunn.

Benson says he'll be back. I'm lukewarm on Scott overall. I haven't been impressed with him dating back to the preseason.

Snelling is probably the safest bet of the bunch. Will get majority of the carries including goalline.

1) Forsett

2) Snelling

3) Scott/Leonard

(KFFL) ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Cincinnati Bengals and RB Cedric Benson (hip flexor) are both saying he will be ready for the team's Week 11 game. Benson suffered a hip flexor strain Week 10.

Is Snelling for sure the guy in ATL? That's a nice offense to have a back in... SNelling was playing today but Norwood was questionable... sounded like he's expected back. If he returns does he step in as #2 or will Snelling keep the job? FBG Depth chart has Norwood #2... (and Norwood is a good receiving back too)...

I've been waiting for Forsett to get a chance... thought he's looked good when given the chance...

What about McCoy? With Westie getting his second concussion in 3 weeks--that can't bode well for a quick return... (not that McCoy is on WW). I'm surprised McCoy wasn't more involved in the offense today...

I'll have to rank them Forsett, Snelling, then Scott. I also didn't see much of the Bills game but Fred Jackson who *is* better than Lynch appears to have gotten more touches today. He could be a sneaky repick if he's been dropped. I'm also thinking Jerome Harrison sooner than later. Not sure who Rick Williams backup is at this point but I'm not sure he can carry the load. Sammy Morris with Maroney's fumble assuming he's ready otherwise Faulk perhaps.

Faulk does seem to be getting more looks than usual this game, something to file away for certain

its reid..even with 2 healthy backs and a decent FB he refused to run early in the game

My money is on Philly getting this done since they aren't going to risk any more concussions to Westbrook. The Falcons would be smart to snap him up but after Vick they'll stay away. If Philly does sign LJ I think the Falcons will regret it when they play week 13.

As a Turner owner in a PPR league, would I be better to target Snelling or Norwood?
Tough call. Norwood has more potential but he just can't stay healthy and it seems unlikely he could be the guy to carry the load. The Falcons situation looks like a committee to me if Turner is out a while.I have the first pick this week in my waiver draft and I have some choices for sure. Forsett looks like he could be the best. I don't think the Seahawks have a reliable run game but he has looked in his chances and has been slowly gaining the confidence of the coaches anyways. He also is a good receiver which makes him perhaps the most versatile of the backs available and means he could have even more value in a PPR league. He might be able to close the year like Slaton last season if Jones is out for a while. I also have the option of picking up Knowshon Moreno who was dropped in my league and he had a pretty good week.

With Patrick Cobbs already on IR at this point, it's a fair bet that Lex Hilliard will be the backup to Ricky Williams for any period of time where Ronnie Brown is out due to the recent injury. There's also a possiblity that Kory Sheets could be activated but with the time Lex Hilliard already has in this offense and his strong play during preseason I would find it hard to believe that Hilliard doesn't get the first chance at the #2 RB spot.

I think Snelling is a pretty good receiver too, but I definitely agree that Forsett looks like the best guy.

Scott has the best remaining schedule, unfortunately, so anybody who wants some amazing use out of him has to hope Benson aggravates his hip flexor (and is OK for next season).

Forsett has a pretty easy schedule too, if you have better options next week I'd leave him on the bench, but I actually ouldn't mind starting him if I had to vs MIN. After that GB in week 16 is the only matchup I don't like.

A week ago, I cut Snelling....Turner is now injured.

I also cut Forsett within the last few weeks.....Julius Jones is now injured.

I just wanted to give all the Chris Johnson owners a heads-up: I'm planning on cutting our ol' buddy Fudgie the Whale this week. Y'all may wanna hold on to your corncob pipes and plan accordingly. I apologize in advance.

What can we do to dissuade you? Money, beer, NFL game tickets, what? Keep fat boy on your bench. Please...

Actually, could you pick up and then of course drop Samkon Gado (SJax's backup?) and Rashad Jennings too?TIA

...and only becuase I know that owner will be peeking in this thread

Actually, that reminded me that I DID, indeed, own Jennings for about a week at the beginning of the season. Jones-Drew must just be biding his time until the fantasy playoffs to have something go wrong. :) Again, I apologize in advance.

ESPN Right Now update before around the horn gave a ten second blurb that reports are for LJ being close to signing with the Bengals.

Scott's had a rough couple of hours now...Benson may bo OK, LJ close...ugh

Throw Scott out if they sign LJ. Infact downgrade Benson somewhat because I am pretty certain they will try to ease up on his workload after this. Maybe a RBBC forming for the Bengals.

Jerious Norwood-RB- Falcons Nov. 16 - 7:27 pm et

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Jerious Norwood and Jason Snelling "would split carries" against the Giants in Week 11 if Michael Turner (high ankle sprain) is unable to play.

However, the paper also acknowledges that Norwood (hip strain) only began running last week. It's safe to assume that Snelling and Norwood would share the backfield equally if Norwood was healthy, but he hasn't played or practiced in a month. Snelling is a much better bet for fantasy production -- and goal-line carries -- even if Norwood returns to the field this week.

:excited:

Julius Jones-RB- Seahawks Nov. 16 - 5:55 pm et

Updating a previous item, Seahawks coach Jim Mora admitted that Julius Jones (rib, lung) is unlikely to play in Week 11.

"At this point, I’d say it’s unlikely that he’d be cleared to play Sunday," Mora said. Justin Forsett will start at Minnesota, and possibly in Week 12 at St. Louis. Mora also confirmed that Julius has a bruised lung and a potentially cracked rib. Forsett should rank high on waiver add lists this week.

Falcons just re-signed Stecker which makes me think Turner injury is going to keep him out awhile

Jim Mora hasn't met with the media yet today, but did go on KIRO-FM for his weekly show this morning. He said on the show that running back Julius Jones has a bruised chest, not broken ribs as initially thought. http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20091116/...988/1004/SPORTS

you keep someone overnight in the hospital for a bruise?

When the bruise causes blood in the lungs, yes.

No way you must be kidding ...LJ is worthless and was just signed for depth ( he will be 4th on the depth chart ) insurance he is not more .LJ is done aniways...

With the Bengals upcoming, soft schedule, isn't it likely that B. Scott will get some garbage time carries to let Benson rest the hip? Bengals next 3 games: @ OAK, CLE, DET....

Also, is J. Jones dropable now with the rib injury and emergence of Forsett (not to mention SEA pretty much looking at next year)?

No way are the Bengals headed for a RBBC with LJ. Benson will continue to be the bell cow back. LJ is insurance and nothing more.

Where would you guys rank the likes of Betts and Jamaal Charles among this weeks darlings?

Currently I rank Betts just under Forsett but higher than Snelling. Charles is below Snelling. Sound right?
